I would like to think that the practice giving talks helped me in the long run with talking in front of people without fear.
JH- They will find a way to fill those minutes, for sure. Our meetings NEVER finished early.
i heard recently that the theocratic ministry school has been modified.
instead of giving the student's grade from the platform, it will now be done in private.
did they finally realize that telling the student that he's getting a "w" is humiliating him, or is there scriptural reasoning for this change?

hi everyone, hoping you're having a good day...i am a "newbie", posted before (re: missing my granddaughter)..well, i have been thinking long and hard, and then long and harder still and i've decided to start a suit to see if i can get grandparent visitation to see my dearly-loved "chloe" who is 6 years old.
my husband is an attorney(not chloe's grandfather) and he wants to take them on, after seeing what 2 years of being cut-off from her, has put me through.
i have an illness, and the stress of missing chloe of course makes me feel worse.
I agree with JT. He has many great points, and really, that may be indeed what it takes. But this is your grandaughter, and you should fight for her.
Other posts are correct, in that some states, the grandparents have no rights. But what JT talks about could put intense pressure on them, the local elders, the WTS itself, and they don't want that negative publicity.
Go for it!! I have had problems with visitation with my own son, and I feel for you. Please win this one for you, your grandaughter, and all of us.
hey all!
this forum is excellent, so i thought i'd join in.
if you'd like to know more about me & know where i fit in here, you can read my story at http://www.freeminds.org/stories/fearmom.htm.
Welcome to the board!
i have seen several threads about how the elders are going to be going around asking people if they still consider themselves to be jehovah's witnesses.
this will undoubtedly result in multiple da announcements in the coming months.
i'm curious how the average jw will perceive this and respond to it.
It scary to think- Are they going to start DA'ing the young children who got baptized at 8,9,10 early teens? What is that going to do to their emotional well being when they didn't have a clue what they were doing in the first place. That is just pure evil.
As far as hearing lots of DA'ing announcements in the halls, perhaps that will help people think.
when you were a witness, did you ever get caught at a holiday party?.
when i was 17, my work had a christmas party.
there would be gifts, and a good time.
When you were a witness, did you ever get caught at a holiday party?
When I was 17, my work had a Christmas party. There would be gifts, and a good time. Well, during my shift was when the party was, so I decided to go. I figured, my parents would never know. Well, wouldn't you know it. After working at this place for a year and a half, the ONE time they ever call for some reason, I am not there. They are told that I am at the Christmas party.
My parents at the time were extremely active; my dad an elder. So they go to my work, and find out where this party is. I am at the party, having a good time, standing around watching one of the managers say what a great year, etc, and all of a sudden, someone grabs my arm. Hard! "What are you doing here?" There is my dad, and my mom behind him, about as mad as they could be. "Get in the car!" and they lead my out to the car. Of course this has caused a scene in front of about 100 people.
I am grilled on the way back to my work, where for some reason they sent me back. Long story short, I explained the problem to my boss, who then called them, and apologized to them, for he told them that he had sent me there to pick something up for him, and that I was not participating in the party. Somehow, they actually believed him, and that ended that episode.
I have not gone to meetings for about 7 years, and a couple of years ago I went to a Christmas party (again) and saw my accountant, whom happens to be a witness. I was shocked to see her there. She knows that I don't go at all, and will never go back. But she seems cool with that, but still, to see her there at the party was quite a suprise. Her kids don't go anymore, and her husband is df'd, but she is still active, and goes to the meetings etc. I asked her about her being there, thinking that maybe she was leaving. Her basic attitude was that the "witness deal" as she called it, worked for her, but she still will do what she wants. She enjoyed the party, and considered her being there more as a spectator as compared to a participant. But she enjoyed the food, and the company.
It made me wonder, how many witnesses will participate in a birthday party, or whatever, and make excuses for it. I wonder how many actually get caught.
Any stories of anyone getting caught? Or just enjoying the parties regardless of being a witness?
i thought that if ever there was an animated watchtower, then this pic would say it all!.
"armageddon is just around the corner, folks!".
feel free to add your captioned wt pics.. englishman.
I hadn't thought of that WTS teaching regarding the birds eating the flesh off of the worldly people in a long time. Quite morbid really, isn't it?
And these teachings are being taught to the young children too, and being spread around as "the good news."
What a loving religion.
does anybody remember the logic behind why it was wrong to make toasts with drink and say "cheers"?
what was up with that, anyway??
?
If we research anything hard enough, many times things go back to the "pagen" times. There are reasons dated way back for marriage rings, holidays, etc. If the purpose is to stay away from anything that had ties to "pagen" days, there would not be too much that we could do.
I seriously doubt that most people will do things based on practices thousands of years ago. We need to be realistic, and consider what the meaning has for today. In my opinion, people will toast as a formality, or just having a good time. They are not thinking to themselves, lets toast to rid ourselves of evil spirits.
last night i talked to an elder that resigned early this year and he told me that he resigned as an elder because of 9--11. he felt that after seeing thousands of people dying in such a horrifying way, there was just no way god would destroy 99 and 9 tenths of the world and only spare jehovah's witnesses.
he also felt that since the kingdom message could not be adequately preached by a handful of jw's so that people could get life, the whole thing is a sham.
he no longer goes to meetings and his wife crys to everybody about her husband.
Sounds like this elder was human, and had a heart. It amazes me how the witnesses are so looking forward to seeing everyone destroyed. Maybe 9-11 will make some think twice. Many people cannot understand disaster unless they live it or see it. Their version of Armaggedon is much worse than 9-11. I find it hard to believe that people would be rejoicing over the painful deaths of so many. But that is what they teach. How sad.
right now i am so mad!
i am in total road rage mode.
the reason is my job.
Gil-
A friend of mine just moved there two months ago. He wanted to try something different, and being that he loves Vegas, and it isn't too far away, he decided to make a go for it.
His problem is, that he doesn't try very hard. He has found it difficult to exert himself and do what it takes. That being the case though, he applied at two different jobs, and got hired at both. They were not the most glamerous, but it was work. Plus the benefits of having the food available 24/7.
A future boss at one place, asked my friend if he could smile. Apparently he was being too serious. When working at a casino, you are in the service business. Even if it means getting out of your comfort zone, you must become more outgoing, and smile.
These casinos have thousands of employes, and are continually looking for more. You might look into the yellow pages, and call the employment department of each hotel. Many of them will give you an automated list of what positions are available. You may obviously not qualify for all of them, but what counts is attitude. I am an employer myself, and when looking for someone to hire, I want a good attitude above all. I can certainly train someone for the position.
You might check into the local schools that teach you to be a card dealer. You can do this while working, and are not too expensive. Right now they are looking for craps dealers. A little more work to become one, but they pay is better, and they are in demand right now, because many of the dealers don't know how to do it. They are stuck doing their black jack, and it is easy. But a good thing is that many of the dealers are making pretty good money.
As far as reading materials, I suggest you read more positive attitude books. Many of your posts are you getting down on yourself, and the first thing you need to do is get rid of that thought process. So if that one book didn't work for you, there are many others. Work on you, and that will become evident to others as they look to hire you.
do you think that witnesses in general have a good sex life?
with all the pressure they have to produce and assist meetings, they have less time left on their hands for other things, like sex.
asked to be spiritual, reading the bible, talking about god and angels, takes their mind off sex.
With my first wife, we were young, brought up as witnesses, and sex was terrible. Too many things she remembered the WTS saying was taboo. I think more of it was her, as apposed to the WTS having involvment, but it sure didn't help.
