I got a nice surprise yesterday...
by Mastodon inmy wife and i started fading about 2 1/2 years ago, but for different reasons.
she had noticed the lack of love and justice in the congregations, even experienced some firsthand and the abusive conduct of elders against the r&f.
on the other side, i was starting my research on the wt and had pretty much decided i didn't want any part in the borg.

Fantastic end to police chase
by freedom96 ini couldn't help but smile at the news last night.
here in san diego, 3 guys are being chased by the police while driving their stolen car.
the fog gets quite thick, so the police stop the chase, but then realize that the car they were chasing pulled over.

What I don't understand is all the sympathy for the criminals. That is what they are, regardless of age, etc. They didn't care for anyone else when they were fleeing from the police at over 100 mph. Again, I am not suggesting that they deserved death for stealing a car. At the same time however, there are two less criminals out there.
Harsh as it may sound, I would rather these idiots die now by jumping over the side rail, than they car jack and hurt my family later.
One of my employees recently got car jacked. When it happens to someone you know, and you talk about it, and realize how real it was, perhaps it gives one a new perspective. I thought to myself, what if it was me? My life is in this persons hands. If they decide to pull the trigger, I will never see my kids or wife or other loved ones again. It was that guys choice to pull the gun and car jack my employee. That right there ends it as far as I am concerned. I tell you, if it was I in that situation, and I could have freed myself from the situation, and by doing so that guy would die, then so be it. It is either me or him, simple as that.
So no, I don't have any compassion to criminals. At 17one is old enough to make a adult decision on how to act. Brought up in a life of poverty and bad role models? Get over it. Make the decision to do right, and things will work themselves out.
Yes, I have compassion for the parents, as I imagine they are in mourning. However, I have to think some blame is theirs. What went wrong with the home in that the kids think it is ok to go out and steal cars and run from the police? Where are the parents here? Yes, I know that sometimes great parents have bad kids, but the majority of the time, the parents are screwed up too. My father was a probation officer for kids, and saw it all the time. The vast majority of criminal kids had parents who just didn't care, messed up on drugs, or other vices.
For those crying about how horrible this was because of their age, would your opinion be any different if they were 39 years old instead? After all, they were kids too, and are kids of someone.

All I know is that the congregation I grew up in, this guy would not have any "privledges" or anything like that. He would not have been looked upon favorably.

Do you do Christmas?
by sass_my_frass inthis will be my first christmas.
i'm not doing anything corny, no tree, no bigass fluoro santa.
just joining my new (husband's) family at their xmas gig - tacky presents for the kids, lots of food, stories by the old folk.

I am trying to get Christmas more into my heart, to be able to truly enjoy the holiday. Don't get me wrong, in no way shape or form do I feel it is wrong to celebrate it. Simply going so many years without it kinda made me indifferent towards it. I don't care what I do that day, don't really care if I see family, or have presents that day or whatever.
I do however, want it to be a special day, one my kids can enjoy. I know I will catch the Christmas spirit soon, just taking its time.

I suppose I have seen and heard about too many criminals that get away with shit. So many crimes by far never get punished. Doesn't matter if someone is right wing or not.
Criminals simply don't get punished to the extent to teach them a lesson.
We now have two less criminals in the system. Who knows, one of them may have one day committed a much worse crime, maybe a violent one to someone who never deserved to be a victim. Obviously, these guys cared very little about others. As far as I am concerned, the world is slightly a better place now.
I am not saying all car thieves deserve death, but for all the victims of all crimes out there, I do feel this is a bit of a victory.

Born ins...how far did you go?
by wanderlustguy inhow far from where you grew up do you live now?
did you leave to get away or to take ownership of your life and create a new destiny?
did you leave before or after you figured it out?.

I live about 500 miles away from where I grew up. I moved because I love the area. To get away from the witness stuff is just an additional blessing.

Here in San Diego, 3 guys are being chased by the police while driving their stolen car. The fog gets quite thick, so the police stop the chase, but then realize that the car they were chasing pulled over. The 3 guys jump out of the car. One guy runs down the freeway, and gets caught. Two others jump over a guard rail to get away from the cops. What the two guys didn't realize in all the fog, is that they had stopped on a bridge. When they jumped over the guard rail, they fell 125 feet. One died immediately, the other bounced a few times before coming to a rest on the bottom of the ravine, and has not regained consciousness. At least not by the last I heard.
A fitting end to a crime.
The sad part was they were 17.
At least the city will save the money convicting these guys of car theft. Though they surely would have gotten out right away so they could go steal more cars, or worse.

when you hear christian do you think of jehovahs witnesses?
by tsunami_rid3r inlike when you hear someone say they are christian and talk about jesus lot do you relate them to being like jehovahs witnesses on instinct?
-
freedom96
People who talk "Christian" do not strike me as witnesses, ever.
When I hear coined phrases like the witnesses use, then there is a flag. But only then.

Would You NOT Do Business With a JW Simply Because He's a JW?
by minimus inwould you discriminate against a person simply because he was a witness?
-
freedom96
I have met many witnesses who are a business owners, and many are far from ethical. Some will take advantage simply because they know they can.
Overall, I want to do business with someone I can trust. If they are a witness, fine. If they are not, then I will go elsewhere.

What's the first thought that comes to mind when wordly people think of JWs

The first thing to come to their minds has got to be the door to door witnessing. Other than that, I don't think most people know much of anything about the witnesses.
