gumby,
thanks for clueing me in.
As far as Russell, I do not believe he had an outright interest in the occult. During the time period he lived in, there were a lot of "ministers" who were looking at the pyramids for dates to back up the bible. Russell was not the first (a guy named Taylor was) and not the last. Also, they did not have the information we have today back then. The pyramids were even more of a wonder for them. Russell was overall a nice, sincere person, not trying to mislead anyone. totally unlike Rutherford! Also Russell did say a lot of times that you did not have to believe what he said. That his interpretations were that only - his interpretations. he believed we should have a personal relationship with God and that God thru Holy Spirit worked in all believers. Yes, some today practically worshiped him, but I dont think he would have wanted it that way.
In response to all the other posts - please go back and find my thread called "name calling and bullying in the name of religion" - we can add saying f*** you to that too. Everyone, relax and enjoy your day. It is not worth it to argue.
"can't we all just get along?".
God bless all of you.

sorry,
I think I am missing something. I don't get this post or the replys to gumby.
But I will say this, I actually liked Russell's first book - the divine plan of the ages. And I could agree with a lot of it, but the other books just kept getting stranger and stranger.
When I compared his chronologies and precictions to the bible itself and read the scriptures he quotes to back everything up in their full context, they did not hold water at all.
But then again, that is my personal opinion only. Except that we do know we have not gone thru the big A yet, we have not seen the destuction of all religion or governments yet, so we know these things he predicted were false. Did he purposely mislead people - I think not. I think Russell was very sincere in his beliefs, just wrong about many.
Here are two things that Russell taught that I agree with wholeheartedly:
"RELIGION IS A SNARE AND A RACKET"
"BEWARE OF ORGANIZATIONS, THEY ARE WHOLY UNNECESSARY"

One person got baptized at Circuit Ass. today (powerhouse circuit)
by thecarpenter injust got a call from a friend who told me only one person got baptized today in a ciruit assembly in nyc.
this is in a powerhouse circuit that had tremendous growth 10~20 years ago but is now seeing a steady decline to the point that congregations are starting to merge because so many are leaving.
what could be the cause of this decline?

Scriptures You Will Not Hear at the 28-05-06 Church Sermon
by scout575 in"and he took him aside from the multitude, and put his fingers into his ears, and he spit, and touched his tongue; and looking up to heaven, he sighed, and saith unto him, ephphatha, that is, be opened.
and straightway his ears were opened, and the string of his tongue was loosed, and he spoke plain.

I don't understand all these posts here that try to make believers seem like they are stupid for believing what the bible says and are always trying to disprove the bible.
Why do some people even care what/why people believe what they do?
I mean, do those of you who try to disprove Christianity also go around trying to disprove Judaism, Hinduism, the Muslim faith and all the others?
I think most of the believers on this forum have been very kind and respectful to the unbelivers who keep bringing up the same issues in their posts which basically are meant to disprove or tear down, or make someone look stupid. The believers are only using the bible when it comes up in a discussion in a post, like if someone asks a bible question. But I have not noticed any of them going out of their way using their posts to disprove all the atheists.
If I was to go around trying to prove all the time that Athiests were wrong with their logic, wouldn't they just tell me to mind my own buiness, or ask what business is it of mine? Sounds like good advice doesn't it?
Faith in God or not believing in a God are both personal decisions for each to decide for themselves. And I can't understand why we feel we have a right to question someones beliefs all the time. What is the reason? Are we going to treat a human being different for believing other than what we personally believe? I should hope not. so why does it even matter?
I mean really, get a another hobby!

Weirdly Wonderful Problem
by Pleasantly Confused inbefore i get to my problem let me introduce myself.
i've already posted on this board quite a bit in the past and still come read stuff on here from time to time.
i would have used my old username but decided against it because quite a few people on here know who i am in real life but for this i'd prefer to stay unknown out of respect for the people i'll be writing about.

Hi confused,
I was in a similiar situtation in my work. I am a per diem health care worker and had to work under a gal recently that was in my old KH. I am also considered Apostate. Since she was my superviser I approached her and brought the matter up. I assured her I intended on doing the best job I could for her, I respected her position over me, I told her I would in no way express my personal opinions at work about the JWs or the organization, or talk about religion in any way, and would like her to do the same. And I asked her if she would have a problem with that in any way or if she felt it would hinder my chances in the company as far as moving up, etc. She said no. We kept our conversation to every day pleasentries and job related stuff. but I made it clear to her I was not going to hide anywhere in the building so she could "shun" me, I felt that would create a hostile work environment for me.
I don't know if this will work for you but it did for me, and you can let them know how much you love working with them all and the company.
But, if in the future you feel you are being held back because of your religious beliefs, and not allowed to advance, get a raise in salary or anything like this, then just know that it is religious descrimination and you can sue them. Hope this helps in some small way, Good luck and welcome back to the board, Lilly

by Sunnygal41 ini have it on the most impeccable authority that our site is regularly monitored............my first reply was "lol...........no surprise.......we've known this for some time.........and we spy on their sites, also.

luna,
I agree with you, they may pick up some real 'truth" here. At least I hope so. They have to know that their org. is totally lying to them by now. Especially with the wealth of information available here.
Anyway, to all you active JW spies:
I have a ministry work I do where I help those stuck in the org. release their heavy bonds by getting closer to Jesus Christ our savior who is the one Jehovah submitted everything under at this time. (1Corinthians15:27) My hope is to share the real gospel with you, one that does not include endless works and never be assured of your salvation. My hope and prayer is that one day you will learn that Jehovah has a plan for everyone in this world and is not the God the Watchtower makes him out to be. He really is LOVE.
If you need spiritual support, prayer, or help in finding real biblical answers to your questions, please feel free to contact me anytime [email protected] , or pm me here. I will not share your email information with anyone. I currently have several active witnesses who the Lord is using me to help and I NEVER give out their names, emails or any information about them - not on this forum or anywhere else. Not even my own husband knows who they are.
I am on the computer several times a day and usually check my messages up until midnight. You do not have to be afraid to contact me, I am not a spy trying to trap you. Please pray about it and if you want you can contact me and can ask me anything. God bless you and I will continue to pray for all you captives in religious bondage. Peace be with you, Lilly

Randy,
My hubby and I both thought that this article, which we read in the free minds journal as soon as we got it, was so true and one of the most wonderful, thought provoking articles we ever read on the Watchtower! I am so tempted to make copies and mail them to all my old JW friends.
