The silence can be deafening. Deism makes some sense. My beliefs change daily. Sorry God is screening his calls.

God didn't answer my phone calls. I think it may have been caller ID.
by easyreader1970 ini know that there are people here with varying beliefs.
some of you are atheist, deist, agnostic, christian, etc.
i'd always been sort of teetering on the edge between deist and atheist.

I agree with startingovernow. It has a lot more to do with how much a person truly believed. Both born-ins and converts have a lot to lose with family and friends and shunning.
It is the ones that believed it in every fiber of their mind that have to adjust to the deep disappointment of finding out it was all a facade. These people have invested very heavily in their lives, sacrificed for and trusted a lie.
If you never really believed, you have the shunning part to deal with, but not the deep psychological letdown.
It is hard either way. The society makes sure of that.

Wow, it has been a while since I read an article from the watchtower. Nothing like starting off with impending destruction for most of mankind. Yet, they top this lovely thought with the question of whether your children will survive by doing enough for their age.
I had kinda forgot how nervous and gloomy stuff like this used to make me feel. NOT a good feeling.
I did notice that in the last article it mentioned the guy was studying for 2 hours on his "family study night". Hey, they have expanded their watchtower speak, a new phrase for all to murmur.

DNCall Unmasked - Part 3 of 5
by DNCall instartfragment.
by the 1990s it became necessary for me to seek work outside of music.
barbara, who had to help support our family in the mid-1980s, was working as a legal secretary and suggested i consider doing the same.

You are right, Flipper. Love them for who they truly are. Show them you appreciate their good qualities. Not much of that going on in the witness world.

The Grieving Process after Leaving the Cult
by cantleave ini really want my wife to see that we have spent our wholes lives in a lie, a lie promoted by mind controlling cult, but i have a problem and this is it........ my wife was extremely close to her grandmother, she lived with her in her teens and loved her to bits.
when her grandmother died, 5 years ago, my wife was devestated, the only thing that allowed her to combat the grief was the hope of the ressurection, being able to see her grandmother again in the new system.. it is in my opinion, this hope that keeps her going in the "truth".
if the she leaves the truth i am sure, that like me she will not fall back on any other religion, she will probably become more humanist and agnostic if not atheist.. this realisation will mean that she will never see her grandmother again.

I don't think you can make anyone see things differently until they choose to themselves. Just keep dropping hints or questions that cause her to think.
I didn't grieve for anyone lost in death after leaving the jws. I feel that nothing has changed except my beliefs. What happens to those who die has never changed.

It is impossible to help this person without some risk involved. If you want to explain to them the reasons you no longer attend, that might help.
On the other hand, they may just turn you in to the elders. If you are trying to fade, not such a good idea.
I have found that the walk away believers are the most guilt-ridden people there are. They don't want to hear what is wrong with the borg. They defend it to the end and hate themselves for not being able to live up to their numerous rules.

Oops, I forgot to say that Lester believes he is Paris' father. He wants to be part of her life. What a jumbled world those kids are going to have.

I am more familiar with Lutherans. They baptize/christen their infants also. The child later attends classes for 2 years once a week and then makes their own choice to get baptized/or not. This is at the age of 12/13. They call it confirmation.
I have a sister who is Catholic who cannot take communion because she got divorced and remarried. It doesn't seem to bother her, she still goes to church. I guess there is no way to fix that one, huh?
I think celebrity families like the Jackson's don't always play by the jw rules. Money has its privileges. Michael's kids have already been exposed to a lot and I imagine they will continue to be exposed to different views in that family.

Maybe he was covering all his bases? The Catholic christening is not really a baptism, but a sweet ceremony where the parents dedicate the child to God.
Jermaine Jackson said that the kids will NOT be raised as jws because they are used to having birthdays and Christmas, when he was interviewed on Larry King the other night.
