Still waiting for you to post an essay of substance. This cliched plot regurgitation doesn't quite cut it.

last fall, my second year of college english was based on the movies instead of classic literature.
the textbook dealt with cinematic elements (lighting, sound, camera position, etc) as the tools filmmakers use to tell their story beyond mere dialog.
the assignments involved watching clips of film, determining what the filmmaker was saying by his use of those elements, then writing full-bodied essays based on our assessments.. one of the film clips we saw was from dead poet's society.

i thought this article from the september 2001 kingdom ministry was very interesting.. get out there and sell those books!!!.
is it an obstacle to preaching?.
most people lead busy lives.
Hence, we do well to examine our actual situation.
Is anyone else here sick of the Org-issued stock phrase, We do well to ...??
Does anyone know it to be a colloquial expression? Has it ever been used outside of the Orwellian vernacular of Dubland?
I HATE IT WHEN PEOPLE SAY "WE DO WELL TO ..."!!!
Anyway, in the case of this article, we do well to take it for the utter bullshit that we know it to be.

i was in the town this morning and saw a little cluster of jws leaving the kingdom hall, clutching their ministry bags, eager to go out into the field service.... well, maybe eager isnt quite the right word.... anyway, i thought to myself - how many people will they convert today?
one, two, a whole family?
the more obvious answer is none at all.
Thanks to the title of this thread, I now have that godawful kingdom melody stuck in my head. "Of course ... it's not ... at every door ... we find ... a hearing ... eeeeeeaar ..." Thanks a lot, IW. [>:(]
I was in a district convention part in which our P.O. brought out a bunch of people, one at a time, to demonstrate how the witnessing work "branches out," bringing in scores of new converts. It was bogus, of course, since there was only one actual door-to-door conversion -- the one between my mother and her partner, a woman she ultimately left my father for. The rest of us were born into the cult, but that was considered part of the "branching" effect, I guess, which Jehovah was so demonstratively blessing.
I often wonder what that same convention part would be like if we were using people who exited the Organization instead of those entering it. Let's see ... first my mom left, then my now-fiancee, then me, then one of my brothers, then a friend of mine, then another friend ... and each of these in turn have convinced other Witnesses that the whole religion is a sham ... I guess we have proof that Jehover is blessing the apostate movement, yeah?

jehovah's witnesses immerse in the spirit .
sunday, june 24, 2001. by william sweet .
amherst "finally," annette mcfaline of springfield said upon being baptized yesterday during the first of five weekend gatherings by the watchtower bible and tract society at the university of massachusetts' mullins center.
Interesting ... I used to attend the district convention at the Mullins Center in Amherst. It's a nice facility, and from one side of the stadium, if you're walking along the corridor, you can watch the kids playing soccer. During the session, Witnesses tend to gather and watch the game -- so "rich" is the spiritual feast being served within.
Every year a local newspaper, usually the Union-News, does a saccharine story like this. The reporters never stick around for the Sunday session, I've noticed. I don't think it's a coincidence that the Organization saves its bloodiest, most bigoted vitriol for the last day of the convention. Last year it was the now-famous Zechariah’s (or was it Zephaniah's) prophesy symposium, in which the speaker went to great lengths to describe exactly what would be done with the innards of those outside the Organization (and even some of those inside the Organization, who are secret leading double lives, not turning in enough time, not making all the meetings, watching R-rated movies, etc.).
Anyway, I found this little exchange priceless:
"We're here for the spiritual food that Jehovah God feeds us," said an excited Wilfred Corey, down from Whitingham, Vt., with his wife, Pearl. "It's a spiritual feast for everyone," Pearl chimed in.
LOL!

i smell something burning; oh, just me thinking again!!.
anyway, one thing i always missed were the holidays-christmas especially.
i know that this is an unproven celebration to say the least, but i have always loved the warmth and beauty of this holiday, although very commercialized in this day and age.
would God really disaprove?
I'm sure he does, which would be disturbing if he actually existed.

keeping a balance in what is allowed and what is not is very difficult and is more difficult if i have to take action against one person when i have let other things go by others.. it would help a lot if we could stop the personal attacks and some of the name calling & insults that are thrown about.
i know personalities do and will clash but please disagree about the subjects being discussed and not get personal!.
if you think someone is deliberately trying to cause arguments please do not respond to them as this is giving in to what they want.
I don't care if Friday is reactivated. His hateful vitriol speaks for itself, and represents the true spirit of the Watchtower better than any so-called apostate could describe.
This is the man, after all, who, when another poster started a thread with a picture of his granddaughter, couldn't wait to point out that both of them were doomed to a violent, ignominious death at the hands of God. What better "witness" can you ask for?
He's a raving mad lunatic fundamentalist, a bigot and all-around asshole -- but I'm not 100% comfortable with his deletion, either.

my wife is becoming a witness and i've found very little that i can do to stop her!
i've tried to show her that the wt does not quote correctly, i've talked to her about past beliefs and i've tried to reason with her about the bible.
but she won't listen!.
Here is a link for ordering Crisis of Conscience, which you should read, even if you can't get your wife to read it.
Keep us posted.

why don't the brothers put more feeling and encouragement in their parts(if they believe this is the truth-show it) much of the information is above the heads of the children.
i have to force myself to concentrate on what is being said and not fall asleep.. children are forced to sit for 2 hours or get smacked.
you can just stay home and read over material.
I, myself, try not to be overcritical of the brothers.
Probably because you are so humble, humble.
I try to make my talks interesting, using illustrations, experiences to explain points.
Wow! You really are humble, humble!

i am after a little input on something.. i am wondering what your thoughts are on parents not preventing pregnancies from occurring when they have already produced a child or children with a genetic defect???.
is it fair or even moral to bring a child into the world when you have already proven that one or both parents genes are defective.
i am speaking here of children that suffer and will not live normal life spans.. i personally could not do this.
Ladonna,
You're right, I did misunderstand your post, or rather, I read it too hastily before replying to it. Again, I apologize, and I hope I didn't imply that you wouldn't love and cherish a genetically disordered child of your own -- I realize that you would.
In response your topic as I now understand it -- I think there are too many contingencies and qualifications to the scenario you present to make a certain, general statement about the morality of the parents' decision.
