Thanks Anitar,
I can only imagine what a horrible experience a JC must be, and isn't this one of those things they call a 'loving provision' from Jehovah?
What do you think Jesus was referring to at Matthew 18:20?

Judicial committees - Scriptural basis?
by Zico ini just found an interesting statement in a watchtower article that is going to be studied soon.
although not the theme of the watchtower (which is why we should attend their meetings) i wondered if this was a subtle attempt to make a response to the argument that there is no scriptural basis for judicial committee meetings.. .
november 1st 2006 watchtower, pg 28, para 5.

JW's and pyrimids
by Matt_fs ini was reading over the way to paradise that some fellow had linked, and i was reading a part where the jw's believed that the great pyrimid of gizeh was the "bible written in stone".
in the book they quote isaiah 19:19, do they still somewhat believe that?
cheers.

All the pyramid stuff is 'old light' along with other wacky beliefs like when they thought they knew the star Jehovah lived on, and that aluminium caused cancer.

'Jehovah blesses his people as they meet together to worship him, study his Word, and enjoy sweet Christian fellowship. When the time comes to attend a meeting, we can be sure that it is there that ‘Jehovah commands the blessing to be.’ (Psalm 133:1, 3) We share in that blessing if we are present and attentively follow the spiritual program. Moreover, Jesus stated: “Where there are two or three gathered together in my name, there I am in their midst.” In context, this statement applies to Christian elders who are meeting to handle serious problems between individuals, but in principle, it also applies to our meetings. (Matthew 18:20) If Christ, by means of holy spirit, is present when Christians meet together in his name, should not such gatherings be considered sacred?'
I went and read Matthew 18, and it follows the scriptures which tells us the procedure to deal with problems between Christians, which is actually contrary to the Society's procedures. First, by going to your brother and discussing it with him alone, then going to him with another person if you can't settle it first time, and finally taking it to the Congregation, and if that doesn't work, treating him like a tax collector and man of the nations. I did note that there was absolutely no suggestion that the 'Congregation' meant a few select elders, and that Jesus never referred to elders when mentioning the 'two or three' I don't know about whether or not it had anything to do with disciplinary procedures though?
Any thoughts?

A Book A Year as a cash flow scheme
by VM44 inwhy does the watchtower release at least one new book each year?
this practice started when judge rutherford was running the watchtower.. even back in the 1930's, when the books were being sold for about 25 cents a copy, a tremendous profit was being made just by the sheer numbers of books produced.
each edition of rutherford's books were printed by the millions!

I think it's partly a tradition thing now as well. Can you imagine what the Dubs would think if they didn't release a book at the Convention?

Last night I spoke to a JW who believed that the mark Cain was given by Jehovah was to turn him black. He said: 'I don't have a problem with black people, but facts are facts.' Then I told him to go home. That sounds like a pretty racist God, but then even the Society haven't tried to teach that one. Although, the only non-white he's ever appointed on his Governing Body was Sam Herd.

Paul's "full gospel" did NOT mention 144,000...
by bebu infrom reflecting on what paul writes in his letters, it is obvious he had never taught anything like the wts doctrines concerning the little flock (144,000) or the slave class, or any other unique jw gospel concept.
yet he was clear that he was preaching the entire gospel everywhere.. i picked out the following verses (you can find more but these are the most obvious) to show that 1) paul said his authority for the gospel he preached was given by god; 2) that he preached the gospel fully; and that he condemned any person or angel who preached a different gospel.
have you ever noticed, then, that though paul clarified the gospel in all of his letters in a variety of ways, the odd doctrines of the jws/wts were never once mentioned by paul?

Hi bebu, Good post! Revelation also says that the 144,000 will all be virgins. The WTS says this is figurative as well.

JW Wedding - Saturday
by Zico ini'm going to a jw wedding on saturday.
the groom is 20, and the bride is 22. .
a bit young this, don't you think?

I think another reason why there are so many young marriages, is because you're not meant to start dating someone till you're ready for marriage. I'm sure this varies from Congregation to Congregation, but my own Cong is very strict on this. The instant you start courting someone, you're pulled into the back by the elders and questioned as to what your intentions are, and told 'you shouldn't be courting this person unless you plan to marry them in future.' even though it's impossible to know if a person is right for you when you first met, no matter what your age. And then you're under pressure to marry someone you hardly know.

Yeah, not ideal at all. I'm only 20 myself, but even I could work out that this is a ridiculous thing to do.
