Help me out here--what was wrong with that quote? Maybe I'm just missing it. My only guess is the bit at the end about how "pagans and apostates" don't pray correctly.

Really serious question!
by 5thGeneration indrifting away is one thing.
i'm curious if anyone has written a letter (not a disassociation letter) that simply told their friends and loved ones that you don't really believe a lot of it anymore and blah, blah, blah.. or is it better to shut up and just never show up again.. problem is my wife says if i want to leave that i have to fess up and tell people.
ouch!.

Excellent story--I feel for you, I really do. Stories like this remind me that the Witnesses' vaunted "love" is superficial and conditional.
As for the bad word--I'm guessing it was the c-bomb? Personally this doesn't bother me, but then it's not my board and I don't set the rules. I have seen other exJW boards totally devastated and ruined by vulgarity and general hooliganism, though, so it's probably for the best that those rules are in place. Don't take it personally. -

Some apostates are more equal than others...
by slimboyfat inever noticed that the most cleverest apostates are the ones that were "brought up in the truth"?
i mean people like little toe, leolaia and narkissos who provide the most intelligent dicsussions on the forum - they never chose the witnesses, but were dragged up in it.
do you think maybe they can't help but look down on the rest of us who were stupid enough to actually choose to become witnesses?

Speaking as a 3rd-generation "raised-in", who humbly hopes that what he's posted has been of use to others:
I absolutely do not look down on anybody who chose to be a Witness. In fact, I've posted articles (see my post history) that highlight recent research that at least partially reveals why people choose to submit themselves to these types of control. It's not entirely free will, but more a matter of being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
I struggled with whether I should respond to this post because it's obviously a troll, but decided that I couldn't let the accusation pass.EDIT: To clarify, I was referring to the original post by slimboyfat as a troll post, not to skeeter1's post.

I highly recommend reading this Wikipedia article, which gives the subject a very good treatment and is a great starting point for research into this subject.

Jesus DFs those who bring up his 'old light'
by A Paduan inthe wtbts places themselves as the dispensers of the food that comes from god - indeed they even say that they are part of the makeup of "the christ", taking up where he and the apostles left off - the source of god on earth today
jesus taught that which came from god, and if he was wrong about stuff that he had said, do you think he would be truthful about it - even step down?
the wtbts teaches what they imagine should come from god, and arrogantly continue on in the position, even after it has been shown that it obviously hasn't come from god.

Jesus was never wrong. This is how you can tell if God is using someone: They aren't wrong. If they turn out to be wrong, God isn't using them. See how that works?
Ergo, God is not using the Society. No other results or proof of being used by God are valid--only this one: God is never wrong. -

Absolutely, bring it on! I've had the inside perspective as a pioneer and an MS--and have gotten huge doses of it from family members who were elders. Getting the poop on COs would be a great revelation.

I once knew an elder/pioneer who was convinced (and would tell all the brothers and sisters this at every opportunity) that China would attack the US and that would start Armageddon, sometime within the next six months. He talked in such certain tones and had a deep (seeming) knowledge of history and politics so it was pretty believable.
This was in 1994. -

Only two movies have ever made me cry:
- Gallipoli - WW1 movie about a couple of footracers from Australia being sucked into WW1. One of Mel Gibson's first films. The ending is completely desolate and totally without any kind of hope. Watched it in school in 8th grade--haven't been able to bring myself to watch it since.
- It's A Wonderful Life--have seen this movie 100 times, but the last time I saw it I cried at the end. WTF? I still don't understand why this happened. Time to see a shrink I guess.
