Are JW's under Hypnosis?
No.
hey, here is an email that i intercepted.
i dont know how to paste it to the forum, soi am just re-typing it.
this is an actual email from an actual dub.. .
You're saying that there were SNAKES ON A MOTHERF__KING STAGE?!?!
i just picked up misquoting jesus by bart ehrman and i'm about 2/3 the way through.
i have to say that i highly recommend this book.
it's a fascinating review of the development of the scripture and how, over the centuries, the text of the new testament has been corrupted by the copying and re-copying of scribes, particularly in the early centuries of the church.
Here's an amazon link to the book, for the lazy.
gerrit losch (it's pronounced kinda like "lirsh") did two things at our dc (portland, or june 30-july 2).
he released the new book about the minor prophets, and he gave the closing talk, the one with the resolution in it.
first of all, losch was not promoted to the governing body because of his speaking ability.
I have been informed by a couple of people (one from this forum and one in person) that Gerrit Lösch really isn't a bad guy, though his axe to grind vis a vis football and his terrible speaking qualities can't be denied.
One guy in my congregation reported that at a DC in Tacoma several years ago, he (the brother in my hall) was working as an attendant overseer. Lösch was a speaker at this DC, as well. Lösch doesn't have a terribly recognizable face, though, and most members of the R&F wouldn't recognize him. So Lösch was wandering around, talking to various brothers, pressing the flesh a bit, and he came upon this brother from my hall who needed help with seating people towards the beginning of the opening session. Lösch asked him if he needed any help, and when the brother said he didn't have anybody to cover such and such section, Lösch actually volunteered. Put himself under the direction of this brother and worked as an attendant for an hour or so.
Dunno if it's a true story, but by most accounts he's really not a bad guy. Imagine Jaracz doing something like that.
background for those who are not aware of my situation: my wife is an active, faithful witness.
i am inactive and in the process of attempting to fade.
we were both raised "in the truth.
Serendipity, that is a very good point and I thank you for that observation. Yes, she is a far more relaxed and understanding person than I have any right to be married to. I think that we will still have a happy marriage even when (eventually, inevitably) we are living in a "religiously divided" household. And she is also open to discussion, and will hear me out about things. I have a great deal of hope.
i received this from someone who needs to be anonymous....this one will turn your stomach.
it's supposedly from a sister in the brazil branch.
perhaps so, but the timeline of the story and age of the individual weren't clear to me as i read it.
I'd like to point out that everything that happened to the guy in that original story, when he started leaving the Catholic faith and becoming a Jehovah's Witness, all the negative reaction from his friends, the terrible ways he was treated, all that would be visited upon him tenfold if he decided to leave the JW's.
The Witnesses like to say how horrible it is how people are treated when they study with and get baptized as Witnesses, but they do the exact same thing to people who want to leave them, too.
i made one of my rare appearances to the sunday meeting today...and really picked a doozy for a talk to have to sit through!
misery loves company, its said, so i'm sharing the latest on "serving with jehovah's unified organization" (please bear with me..... the speaker(who was actually quite entertaining with his illustrations and props!
) opened up with a definition of belonging to an organization: it was, he said "complete conformity by a person to the standards and requirements of an organization"....then he used the example of how any org will kick out a member who chooses not to follow the standards and requirements of the organization...but in fact, in j's org they kick themselves out!
Jehovah uses imperfect men to run a perfect organization
This is demonstrably untrue.
(1)how many of you out there, back when you were still a jw, heard the bros say "yeah the cong is a little cold cos of <insert scapegoat here>, but there is genuine love among the country congs/ the foreign lang congs etc??
(2)how did you respond to that remark?
did you accept that concession or did the absence of unpretentious love in your cong continue to bother you?
The congregation I grew up in always seemed very loving to me. Then again, I was a young up and coming firecracker of a brother, on the fast track to becoming an MS and a pioneer.
Later I moved out from my parent's house, and in the new congregation I fell on hard times, got publically reproved. I have never been particularly active since then (though not inactive until recently.) I have never felt any love from any of the four congregations I have attended post-reproof.
Also, that original congregation, the one that was so loving? My parents, a longtime elder and a longtime pioneer, have been having horrible problems there, being gossiped about behind their backs, being removed from their "privileges of service," all for misuderstandings and miscommunications.
I think that the degree of love you get from the congregation has everything to do with how hooked in you are, how "spiritual" (read: how active in the field service) you are, how much you are "doing for Jehovah." In other words, you will get lots of adoration and love if you are doing a lot of works.
Merfi, she is referring to being under the influence of Methylenedioxymethamphetamine, a.k.a. Ecstasy or just "E".
there was a post here a few weeks ago about a talk that gb member sam herd gave recently at a ca special assembly day.
the notes on the talk were taken from a tape of the program, and it was very interesting.
i'm trying to find the post but so far have been unsuccessful.. does anyone remember the post, and can you help me find it.
