What a wussy. Hasn't he ever seen The Sandlot?
"Hey look, there's your sister. She's naked. Your sister is naked in the outfield." And those were little kids.
Big baby. Nothing he experienced hasn't been experienced by every professional sportsman in every sport everywhere in the world.

Yes. It really is. Did "I was following orders" work for Nazi war criminals? No.
We must take responsibility for our actions. We must disobey orders and reject beliefs that we believe are wrong, immoral, or incorrect. -

We still have Ianone and his various reincarnations posting regularly about the Masons, and proplog2 with his crazy theories. Everyone else seems to have quieted down for the time being.

Dude, that is exactly where I am right now. Exactly. I am inactive in the "field ministry" too (going on 8 months now.)
I have a wife and kids. The only reason I still go to meetings at all is because she insists on going, and because I feel a fatherly responsibility to help her with the kids at the meetings. I also feel a vague need to put on a common front with my wife, for the kids' benefit.
If it was just my wife and I, I'd be out completely.

I was raised in, but was also very well read for a young person. I never believed all of it 100%... there were demonstrable untruths and mistakes being made. However I comforted myself with the thought that they were "closest to the truth" of any religion, and therefore still the correct place to be.
I got this phrase from a very close old friend of mine; his cousin (my wife) now says the same thing a lot herself. The thing is, that's not JW orthodoxy or anything like it; you're not supposed to say things like that. It's THE TRUTH as far as the Society and faithful Witnesses are concerned. Truth is a binary state for them--either it's the truth, or it's false.
People who say that (I hope) are nascent "apostates." -

I did it the same way as drew--walked into a store and ordered it, paid with cash, and kept it at work.

Happy to be brainwashed!
by Fleshybirdfodder inmy father commented at a meeting once, "when people accuse me of being brainwashed, i reply, "i certainly am!
my brain has been washed clean of the world!
" uproarious laughter ensued from the flipper clapping seals in the cong.

Do you feel you were trapped in a destructive cult?
by mavie ini'm interested in knowing your thoughts on this matter.
do you think the wtbts is a destructive cult?
a destructive cult is defined as "a group which violates the rights of its members and damages them through the abusive techniques of unethical mind control.

I didn't used to, even after having serious doubts... but I have begun to think so. There are too many people on depression medication, too many people with serious health problems, too many insane people, in every congregation, for me to think otherwise.

Shooting is one of those things I'd probably enjoy but don't have enough time for right now. I have to content myself with virtual shooting for the time being.
It's so weird to me that my wife didn't have a bigger complaint about this. It really is a big no no. I told her my primary reason was that I wanted to vote in school board decisions, which really resonates with her since we have kids in school. Family is her #1 thing. -

by sass_my_frass inugh, okay, here's the story: i've been doing quite well, but today i heard about a good jw friend who now shuns me.

Sass, don't take this the wrong way, but have you considered trying some counseling? I know that it has helped some here in the past, and it was also instrumental in getting me past the mental barriers that were keeping me from looking at my beliefs honestly.
It's not for everybody, but it might be worth a shot...
