Any religion as a state religion is bad. "Muslim countries" are by default bad, because there are people who believe they have a hotline to God running the place. We've all seen where that leads.
Nor do I buy "Islam is a religion of peace". I don't buy that of any religion.
Nevertheless I'm uncomfortable with level of generalization you're making. I'm willing to allow that perhaps it's simply my lack of experience with people of this faith. I admit that I've never known anyone who was Islamic. Perhaps that's why I'm leery of buying into the hype.
On the other had I see the burqas, and watch the dancing in the streets after 9/11, and hear the public statements after that cartoon flap in Denmark, and I wonder.

Muslims demonstrate that they are not violent by firebombing churches
by Elsewhere inas i said in another post: actions speak louder than words.
muslims were angered by the pope's quoting a 14th century writer who said that muslims are violent in nature.. in order to disprove this statement many muslims took too the streets shouting violent slogans and burned an effigy of the pope.
still more muslims demonstrated that they are not violent by firebombing random churches.. yup... actions speak louder than words.

Elsewhere, I need you to answer a question for me, if you're still following this thread. You keep saying "The Muslims demonstrate this" or "The Muslims took offense at that." You realize, don't you, that there are between 900 million and 1.5 billion Muslims on this planet, right?
You seem to believe, based on your statements, that this gigantic homogeneous group of people speak with one voice and think with one mind.
Is that the case?
And if so, are you comfortable with that kind of stereotyping and categorizing of your fellow humans? -

Gary, thanks so much for sharing. I love these pics. You've lived a lot in your life, you know what I mean? Some of these memories must be very bittersweet. You honor us.

banned bands and songs
by aoxo inanybody have the bethal list of banned musicians and songs.
i remember after my sister got baptised she said that the brother who dunked her under told her not to listen to a song, i think it was "new sensation" or something like that which was a popular song for the 80's period.
i remember a lot of songs being banned because of lyrics that had nothing to do with what they thought it had to do with.

*** w62 7/1 p. 409 How Should Christians View Dancing? ***
?CAFÉ society, having ignored rock ?n? roll for years, has suddenly, by an apparent process of mass hypnosis, embraced the teen-age craze,? recently reported the New York Times. ?The elite of the social set and celebrities of show business have discovered a sensuous dance called the Twist, performed to rock ?n? roll, and are wallowing in it like converts to a new brand of voodoo.?1 A ritualistic ?voodoo twist? is even being done in West Berlin, for the dance craze has spread from New York to Britain, France and other countries. Few dance crazes in recent years have provoked so much discussion, so much controversy.

I assume that the sentiments above would put poor Chubby Checker into the "banned" category. -

Hey Legolas...
When you use the IE Tab extension in Firefox, you're using IE. It's IE running inside of Firefox. It has all the same problems IE has.
If you switched to Firefox for safe browsing reasons, don't use the IE Tab extension.
If you need rich editing on JWD you can do a Google search for "Xinha Here" which is an HTML editor plugin for Firefox. It's not as good as the one Simon has built in that only works in IE, but it's better than nothing. -

I did some reading and this is what I turned up. First of all, nobody is allowed to wear any underwear to Christmas parties. Also, remember to make out with the host/hostess. In this case it would probably be the CEO of your husband's company. Remember to bring a chilled codfish, there will be a contest that involves these. And it's perfectly acceptable to break off a branch of the Christmas tree to bring home for a souvenir. The Christmas cake should be both served and eaten with bare hands. Lastly, be sure to find out where the Christmas vomitorium is before you eat the cake--you will be thankful later when you need to clear out some room for more eating.

Why is it so hard for people to be kind ?
by oldflame inrecently i have noticed a difference in peoples attitude towards others.
i remember the day when others would open the door for you or smile when they look at you.
i remember the day when you were merging onto traffic and people would let you in.

I suspect you are viewing the past through rose-colored glasses. Nostalgia is a powerful force, and almost always false.

How many of you are still "active Witnesses"?
by exwitless ini'm curious about some of you who post here and say that you attend jw meetings regularly.
what motivates you to post here, and does anyone in your congregation have any clue you're doing that?

I am inactive (because activity and inactivity relate to whether you are going door to door or not.) However I attend most of the meetings. I am trying to help my wife to see clearly and this requires taking a non confrontational approach.
