Oldest living Holocaust survivor is a JW
by under_believer inhttp://www.portervillerecorder.com/articles/2006/05/16/news/local_state/news08.txt .
what it doesn't talk about is how rutherford tried to conciliate with the nazis in the 30's, failed, and then deliberately ordered the witnesses there into a position that would put them in harm's way, when there were other things they could have done that would have preserved their "christian conscience" and not gotten thousands of them killed.
i wonder if that poor old brave guy had known that, whether he would still be a witness?

Morally Bankrupt Blood Policy
by under_believer inin my usual didactic fashion, let's go through the logical steps here.. 1. the society allows witnesses to use many blood fractions: albumin for burn victims is an example.
these medical supplies come from the donated blood supply.. 2. the society forbids witnesses to donate blood.. 3. therefore, individual witnesses who accept treatment from the blood supply are hypocrites.. this is really a horrible situation.
i'm sure they felt up at brooklyn that they were becoming more liberal in relaxing the blood ban; in fact, they created a situation where any witness that accepts any of the arbitrarily allowed blood fractions is taking part in a horrible hypocrisy.

as they wisely point out at the related page, http://www.watchtower.org/library/g/1997/11/8/article_01.htm: "your perseverance, however, will pay off when you delight your friends with espresso drinks that rival those in your local coffee shop.

It's not upbuilding! It only tears down!
by under_believer ini'm sure many will recognize the subject as a criticism frequently levelled against critical or "apostate" statements: it doesn't build up, it's not encouraging, it only tears down, it's negative.
in other words, don't listen to it, or it will harsh your mellow.. has anybody come up with a reasonably acceptable response to this criticism?
i have already heard it a couple of times in talking to various friends of mine.

Conversation with friend leads to despair
by under_believer inmy status is "fading but still sort of in.
" i don't believe any of it anymore.. i just had a long conversation with a very old friend of mine who is "weak," as in he doesn't preach, and he doesn't make many of the meetings.
he still believes everything, though... he's just "weak.

Does this make me an apostate™?
by under_believer intoday i had reason to enter a hospital.
nothing serious, just a doctor appointment.
as i was walking through the enclosed entryway (it was one of those affairs with a revolving door at one end and double doors at the other,) i saw the spanish-language watchtower and awake!

i am an empiricist; evidence required, please!
