Hmmm. I suppose so, except that Jehovah isn't his name anyway, Jah've is. Gasp! That means the WTS isn't His Organization afterall.

Jehovah creates a bad name for himself
by Nosferatu in.
apostates haven't done a thing to give jehovah a bad name.
he's done it all himself, by letting his organization make wrong predictions about the end, by associating themselves with the united nations, and by letting them shelter child molesters.. it's that, or the watchtower society really isn't god's organization.

Will the WTS ever drop the reporting of time?
by TweetieBird inwhat do you think would happen if the society received "new light" and it was no longer a requirement to turn in a field service report, it is now between each publisher and jehovah what they do as far as witnessing?
personally i don't think that will ever happen because that is the only way they can maintain control over everyone in the congregation.

I have often wondered (along with no-blood & disfellowshipping) if counting-time has a place in Dubdom's future. But since we were never Christians, but Publishers, the onus to place literature has to be there. I would imagine 80% of the brethren would give up on literature "sales" if the scorekeeping went away. A religious publishing empire can't afford that.

What is the biggest negative and biggest positive to being a jw?
by skittles4u ini am very curious to your respones.

I take it you mean by STILL being a jw? If so then the POSITIVE is having simple answers to complex (and often, in the real world, unanswerable) questions. The NEGATIVE would be separating yourself from former family and friends (we were the only dubs in our families). But if you mean having LEFT off being a jw then the POSITIVE is never ever being fooled again and the NEGATIVE being wasting many years.

Suicidal Thoughts
by Obviously Secret insorry to put such a crappy subject on here but today and like this whole week has been pretty bad.. right when i went to the 5th grade i started getting i was already in the suicidal mood of things and always thought about killing myself or killing a whole bunch of other people.
all during elementary school kids picked on me since i had a habbit of crawling into corners and crying or just sitting and rocking in those corners.
i couldn't talk to anybody, i stuttered and i threw up every time a person talks to me for too long that pushed away alot of people they always talked about me throwing up all the time and everything.

OS, there's a definitive work on behavioral therapy by a Dr Burns called "Feeling Good". When I realized that Dubdom was not the truth I went through a horribly suicidal period, eventually being diagnosed as bi-polar hypo-manic. I think I must have been "off" for years - possibly accounting for why I converted to Dubdom in the first place. Between a drug for epilepsy (Tegretol) that had benefits for bi-polar and going to a cognitive behavoral therapist I got a handle on my life - and it felt that my left and right brain were working together for the first time. Very best wishes, you're in a tough place, but talking it through and getting some professional help will do wonders. Glen

JWD ....the opium of the Ex ?
by ScoobySnax inmarx reckoned religion was the opium of the people, i'm no marx, but i reckon jwd has become the opium of the exjws.
it satisfies a need, gives one a purpose, feels someone with a greater sense of purpose, trys to give one a purpose and reason for being here, and very closely becomes a "religion" of sorts to many.
many here claim they stay to help others out of the wbts, where in fact i think they stay because it has become their new "opium" its a focal point they can meet with like minded individuals to further their own new "belief".

Scooby, yes you are reading too much into it and you are stretching what Marx had to say about religion. To me this is a club for veterans of foreign wars, with a healthy dose of humor. Everything has to have some rules of conduct, or would you prefer that we chose which side of the road to drive on depending on how we feel that day?

Cool! It's gonna be Saturday the 26th, I'll email details later. If anyone plays an instrument (no, not that instrument) bring it along. Craig, I sent you a message on the board here after you called, but (just like my formatting) I don't seem to able to work this machinery right.

What Type Of Jehovah's Witness Were You, REALLY???
by minimus inmost jws seem to be "devout" in that they go to 5 meetings and out in field service.
yet, many also lived double lives.
were you a true-blue jw or were you a faker?

I had a lot of guilt, so I towed the line well. I took it very seriously, as too my family. I really thought it was the truth and we went to all meetings, service, etc etc. My own inner conscience stopped me from leading a double life, although I did drink too much in those days and eventually my wife was going to rat on me to the elders, hence I was deleted.

Take back the Kingdom Halls? What do you think?
by Dogpatch in.. this letter was sent to me last week.
sounds kinda implausible, especially from a legal angle, but jim is asking your opinion.
what do you think about this proposal?.

Btw, I am still interested in pitching in on determining if "full-time servants of Jehovah" (aka unpaid employees of a religious publishing company) would be due any social security (pension plan) monies. If there's an corporate attorney out there who thinks there's a case I sure would be interested in helping come up with a brief. I personally have nothing to gain, but I think Bethelites that have been coerced to take a vow of poverty and will have no social security to fall back on are owed this.

Hmmm. I'm a business consultant, and not a not-for-prophet/profit expert. But I'd say that without the majority vote at the local congregation it will be pissing up a rope. I had heard (early 90's?) that a congregation in Texas went "apostate" and took over the hall and that the Borg let them have it. In that case the total Elder Body (aka officers of the company) went too and that's why the Society couldn't take back the hall. Total hearsay tho'.
