We stayed where we were, including being next-door-but-one neighbors to the Service Overseer. Few talk to us, but now it doesn't matter anymore. I'm not sure you can move totally away - who knows who'll you'll come in contact with. I think the best best is to rid yourself of the emotions. Live a great life!

Move away or face them?
by JH insometimes, the only way to forget about the witnesses and that religion is to move away and not see them anymore.
but sometimes it's impossible to move, because of your job or family, so you're stuck to face them once in a while.
i was just wondering if many of you moved away after leaving the jw's and if that helped you, or would you just stay where you are and face them?

Cool! So, Otrade, are you gonna teach us how to put one together? How are you [your real name here]? Hoping all is well. Portland Brewing was sold last night - it's a new world with no free beer anymore! Glen

Hey Y'all:
I'm ridding myself of Deleted as a monicker. It served me well 5 years ago. Now it's time to move on. Here's my choices, please vote. If you have a better one for a 50 year old, one-eyed (Cyclops?) Englishman from Estacada Oregon lay it on!
1. "Jack Russellite" - I have a soft spot for the DAWN people (they concluded Rutherford was the Evil Slave) but I wouldn't become one (don't believe in any of it anymore)
2. "Glen James" - that's my real name.
3. "Glenmore" - actually that is the name on my birth certificate. Scots/Irish - it's the name of an oatmeal stout my former employer made a while ago "rich and silky, goes down easy" - yep, that's me!
4. "Englishman from Estacada" - it's where I live
5. "Brother Awesome" - a dear old sister who passed away recently used to call me this.
Thanks for indulging me y'all!

Did You Stay as a Witness Because You Needed a Social Life & "Friends"?
by minimus inrecently onacruse made a comment regarding why many jws remain jws.
a lot of people look at religion as a way to get together and be social with one another.
let's face it, people need "friends".

From August 1998 (last meeting I attended) onwards (I knew this wasn't the truth for sure by March 1999) I was right where Blondie was, I had minimal relationships and it was easy to leave. I said good-bye to 6 dubs and 5 of them told me they couldn't leave. I never asked them to, just to understand I couldn't continue. Also I had a couple of dubs during that period come by and tell me our elders were acting like Pharisees, that made it easy to go from poor leadership in the local congregation to a faulty organization, in toto.

(Ex-)Elders and MS: Do You Know What They Discussed Before Appointing You?
by GermanXJW inwhen i was appointed an ms for the first time (i moved several times and got recommended each time) i heard through the grapevine that one of the elders complained to the boe that once he asked me to move my car so that he could leave the parking lot.
i replied (jokingly): "oh, there is enough place for a truck.
" but i moved my car and was surprised that things like that were brought up in the discussion to appoint me or not.

It was 1989. I had a cell phone (one of the small ones in those days, weighed about a pound). I answered a call when I was out in service (we were just driving) and it got back to someone who said that since I was being considered to be appointed as an MS I should be very careful not to mix business with our sacred service.

Would You Ever Become A "Bible Student" & Believe In Russell's Writings?
by minimus insince there have been so many recent threads on charles taze russell, the 1st president of the watch tower society, would you ever consider following that movement?
would you ever want to become a "bible student" and learn from the writings of russell so that you could understand "divine truths"?

No. But as I have said many times, including my cathartic piece from 1999, I have a soft spot for anyone who thought Rutherford was the Evil Slave. I am thinking of going to the Portland Oregon Bible Students convention in August at the Collins retreat in Eagle Creek. It's just a few miles from home. And I like my JWDF buddy "RR". Glen

How Long Do You Think That You Will Frequent These Boards??
by minimus incan you see yourself here 5 years from now?
-
Deleted
Yes. I will be here, but I'll be changing my slave name soon to "Glen James", "Jack Russelite" or something that fits. I no longer have any anger, even at myself for wasting 18 years of my adult life. I am at that point where I enjoy the company of xjws and I don't see any reason to change. To me the forum is a club for veterans of peculiar wars. Glen

My bible study conductor deceived me with this point.
by cyber-sista inthis is something that has always bothered me and now i can see what a deception it was.
a jw woman studied with me on and off for about 3 years before i got baptized.
eventually i got baptized at a weaker moment in my life (suffering from major post partum depression) you don't want your child to die at the big a do you?-- was one line of thinking that was used on me.. the deception was this: during the time i was studying she never told me the truth about the whole unbelieving mate situation, though i specifically asked what would happen to my mate if the big a came and he never became a joe witness--?

Yep, sure did. I was working for a company that made blood transfusion filters when we were "studying". The blood issue came up. I balked. But I asked what would happen if I had a blood transfusion (I knew of the dangers, but life is life). He said "they wouldn't do anything about it". I said fine and we continued. After getting indoctinated I found out this was a lie. I confronted him with it and he said "blood transfusions are unlikely, being in the "truth" is a day to day struggle, it's not the big things, blah blah blah". So I took it that I had a free pass since he lied. I should have backed out there and then, but I was love-bombed, thought it was the truth and all that.
