Former Mormon has a question about the JW cult
by FormerMormon ini have been reading a bit on other cults.
jim jones, david koresh, warren jeffs, sun myung moon etc.
i see a lot of similarity between these cult leaders and my lds cult leaders (joseph's myth, bring' em young, etc) all the aforementioned cult leaders had sexual issues.

Did Prayer work for you, or not?
by gaiagirl injws, and christians in genreral, are taught that god answers prayers of sincere believers.
on the other hand, there is a popular bumpersticker which reads "nothing fails like prayer".. what has been your experience in this regard?
did god answer your most heartfelt prayers, or were they ignored?.

Oh, and my prayers were never answered, no matter how much I pleaded...

Something I noticed when I first started having responsibilities in the hall and even more so as MS was that during the song we were busy doing all kinds of things at the back of the hall or arranging mics on the platform. Prayer was a holdup for elders and MS, since they needed to stop doing what they were doing and act like they are sincerely praying. There were always complains about the brothers known for their long prayers lol.
I think worship doesnt really play a big part in a jw life. Its more about activities: FS, hours, meeting attendance, participation and placing litterateur. In fact, on a visit to bethel I felt strange to hear the term "morning worship"... it sounded so church-like!
Many jws and ex-jws (including myself) I talked to admit that they never really prayed and don't listen to the prayers spoken at the kh. Prayer was/is just a formality.
As a jw I had strong faith in jah, but felt like a hypocrite about this. A wt came out talking about "lip service". So I decided not pray everyday or before every meal, but only when I felt like it, thinking this may be more pleasing to jah. (this was not in line with the wt) Sometimes many weeks would go by without praying, which I thought wasn't good, yet better then pretending. I mainly prayed when I felt troubled about something, usually it was unfair situations in the congregation.

1. China has a horrible human rights record.
Fair comment . . .
2. They are evaporating the US economy.
So it's ok to buy from other way smaller countries with appalling human rights records and dreadful sweatshop arrangements as long as they don't evaporate the US economy . . .
It's called an open market. Maybe all US companies should set the lead by refusing to have any goods manufactured there then you wouldn't have to buy them . . .

Remember the "last warning for Babylon the Great" WT series of four?
by kitten whiskers ini remember a series of four watchtowers that we "zealously" placed to issue the "final warning to babylon the great".
they all had pictures (if i remember correctly) of the harlot in revelation.
i think the pictures were all taken from the revelation climax book.

Oh yes, I remember those, as mentioned they were the first in full color. Not taken from the Climax book though. All were exited about the colorful pictures, but many complained about placing them in FS. One sister who always made comments about the wt pictures said, why do the first color pictures have to be pictures of monsters?...
We were told to stand in order to support the declaration. Don't remember if it was during the wt study or service meeting.
Regarding the waters of Babylon being trained out, I feel that especially since 9/11 the world has become more religious...

Do you feel that it is ethical behavior to shun?

If a biblical statement outright disagrees with what you are taught, do you keep following your leader?
Do most of the songs you sing have numbers for titles?
Are you always afraid someone might see and hear you when you're finally just being "normal"?

I don't need to think for myself...I let my elders do that for me!
I'm free to do what I want... and so I ask the elders to allow me.
I'm Happy! God loves me just the way I am!
I am not afraid of God's punishment...
