Those still hanging on to the "truth" routine-whats keeping you in?
by architect in.
for me its my wife of 2 1/2 years.she said she married me for my spirituality (former elder), her ex raised in the truth- never did anything with the truth.
she doesn't appreciate me taking negative about the wtbs and the watchtower study.. not sure how long i will last its been 30 years- yet i dont want to hurt my new wife.. so those of you still hanging in there- whats keeping you hanging on?

I was in for 21 years, I was pretty much just trying to do what I thought was right. I am not sure what kept me going for so long, maybe it was the mind control or something.

do you like it or dislike it?

Dear I-follow-the-narrow-path,
I am not so sure that you are concerned about the what will happen. I read through most of this thread and see some excellent points but many, as true as they are can not stand up to the feelings that you have. You have found something that answers questions you have had for some time, you have found a place where there is true friendship and people who feel and think like you. You have found the only religion that makes sense.... That is exactly the way I fealt into my early 20's, no one could say anything to change my feelings or my beliefs, wow I was screwed up. Speaking from experience this is what you can look forward to.
1. If you do not fit in after you have been baptized, you will not be included in activities. You may be seen as a bad association if you do not perform well or if the wrong person talks to you or hangs out with you. You may find that the only people who do hang with you or talk to you are the bad ones and thus you get caught in bad fruit bowl, turn brown and will become disgusted with the way you are treated.
2. You will be inclined to follow the lead of the organization, the brothers, this will lead to missery. You will have to cut off friends who are not in the religion, disfellowshipped or disassociated members. You will loose family members over this religion. If you make a choice that leads to your disfellowshipping or disassociation you will loose any friends and family in the religion.
3. No matter how good you are, no matter how hard you try, it will never be enough and that will be your life lesson and if you are a good JW it will echo in all that you do, you will have no self esteme.
I hope you find the answer you are looking for and I hope that you do not have to experience pain finding the answer.

Anger over disfellowshipping
by jambon1 ini have now spoken with a couple of worldly people regarding the practise of disfellowshipping.
having been out of the org for a few months i now feel confident enough to expose the things that i knew were wrong.
d/f was one of the biggest issues i had.

When it comes up, any conversation that somehow turns to the fact that I am DF'd, I usually underplay it. I say that they were just doing there job but everyone with half a brain knows better than that, it's just my old tapes running that message. Using the DF is just plain out wrong.

Isn't it a big No-No for Dubs to refer to KH as CHURCH?
by limbogirl inlast saturday i was at my favorite coffee shop with my three year old son -- great place because it has a train table to entertain the kids while mom has some coffee.
first thing i notice is what appears to be dubs but on closer inspection the two daughters look way too trendy to be dubs -- the parents, however, are spot on and were so dubesque i nearly laughed out loud.
so, hanging out having coffee with some other moms and i notice the daughters of the above mentioned family keep smiling at my son.

It used to confuse people why I would never call it CHURCH. What do you mean Kingdom hall?

by poodlehead ini have wondered how each of you classifies yourself.
as regards to religion.
this is for my own person interest.

6 but I don't think of it on those terms, I just try to be a good person. I do pray with my family at dinner but I think that god(or whatever) is with us all the time.

When former Witnesses do this, it kind of freaks me out.
by free2beme inokay, this is going to step on someones toes, i just know it.. when i stopped going to the meetings, i was talking a person at the time in the 1990's who had been out for a long time.
i thought it was interesting when he mentioned that he still went to meetings and worshipped jehovah, just not with the watchtower.
so i was wondering what he meant, and one weekend while in california with him and a group function for my employer at the time, he invited me to go a meeting.

DF is the cleanest way out. No strings left attached. There is the side effect of loosing ones family.

I used to practice Northern Praying Mantis Kung-fu all the time, I have kids now. I do attend some of the time, at one point I reached the 5th level at a point which is AKA disciple level. I just started riding my bike to work, it is about 4 miles with a couple hills between here and there.
