Jeepers Bethel,
Why don't we skip all that stuff and I'll just give you his publisher's card? I know I'll be seeing you tomorrow, so I nominate you to do the exotic dance that gets his pagan juices flowing....

Does anyone have a scan of the pic of Herodias' daughter offering John the Baptist's head on platter to Herod? I think it was in the Greatest Man book but am not sure. I just remember it being disgusting. My friend is celebrating his birthday for the first time and I want to make him a card with that pic. I know, I have a sick sense of humour, but it just helps me to laugh at how ridiculous the notion is that every time a birthday is celebrated a holy man gets beheaded. Any help would be appreciated.

after my last negative post, i am so happy to have my immediate family involved and we all love each other.. no presents needed just the love and togetherness.
hope you are as happy!.
merry christmas from our family to yours!.
My third Christmas and I'm loving it. I really don't attach any religious significance to it; to me it's just a celebration of the solstice! Up North the days get so ridiculously short and dark it can get rather depressing, so a break with family and friends and food and fun and lights and snowballs is just what the doctor ordered to remind of us of how blessed we really are! Regardless of what you do for the holidays, have a safe and happy one!

i once heard about nearly an entire body of elders in a congregaton that got demoted/sacked from being elders because of some scandal in their congregation that they collectively covered up or didn't deal properly with.
i think it was about some relative of a dominant elder that should've got disfellowshipped but they all brushed it under the carpet.
the branch heard about it and sent a circuit overseer especially out to investigate it and he sacked nearly all of 'em and some new ministerial servant school graduates were quickly assigned to come in and take their place.
I've heard of similar things. http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/114675/1.ashx A couple of militant elders from our congregation had to move to one 30 minutes South of us to take over because of some delicious scandal there. I don't think the whole body was disbanded though.

as ex-mormon, my exposure to a different version of the first vision story which was quite different from the offical first vision was my beginning way out of mormonism.
what about you ex-jw's?
what, in terms of wt doctrine, made you realize that the wt is a fraud?.
I keep a page I tore from the Learn from the Great Teacher book posted on my wall in my studio with a postit note saying "sweet dreams kids..." tacked onto it. The illustration shows terrified people running for their lives as Jesus and the angels rain fire and sulphur down on their heads. If I ever feel like I'm having doubts as to whether I made the right decision to leave, I just have to look up and remember that this organization is perfectly comfortable with the teaching that six billion people are going to be painfully executed, whilst the happy little dubbies dance around their bird-pecked carcasses.

i never knew this...just found it today.
made me giggle.. payment of sales tax on literatureon 17 january1990 the u.s. supreme court made a ruling that sales tax must be paid on religious literature.
the following month, a letter from the watchtower society went out to all congregations stating that there would no longer be a set price for literature but that they would be given to the public on a donation basis.
We were counselled to always add the donation tag-line at the end of any demonstration we did during the service meeting so the brothers wouldn't "forget" to ask for money after a placement.

i was listening to talk radio the other day and they were discussing the muslims who were taken off an american airlines flight (i believe that was the airline) because they were praying publicly prior to the flight.
one of the individuals, an imam, who was on the flight was being interviewed and in the defense of what he called "moderate islam" proclaimed there is a movement against islam, and specifically mentioned jehovah's witnesses handing out a flyer where they directly misquote the koran to implicate all muslims in 9/11.
is this in the new "the end of false religion is near" tract?
It may well be the tract that is directed at Muslims, I live in Toronto which is extremely multi-cultural, so I can see them doing a campaign specifically targeting the Islamic community. He specifically mentioned a misquote that not necessarily implicated all Muslims, but pointed directly at the Koran as the reason for the attacks. I'll keep my ears open. He's been interviewed a number of times. I'll see if there are any audio clips at the station's website. Thanks for the help.

Is this in the new "The End of False Religion is Near" tract? Have the Witnesses inadvertently opened a can of worms and found themselves in some real hot water? They've been slamming other religions for so long with relative impunity, but I think this time they've touched on a hot topic, very ill-informed (or sloppily researched as usual) and I'm not sure if this will be brushed aside by those who need the PR (specifically the Muslim community). Anyone heard anything about this?

hey everyone, long time no post.
i've been busy (not going to meetings and not doing personal study...) but have peeked at the site periodically to keep up to date with the goings on.
the other day my wife thought of something when she saw two witlesses leaving mags on the seat of the subway in hopes that some hapless "target" would pick them up and be converted.

Throughout our public transit system there are signs posted everywhere asking (/telling) people not to litter by leaving newspapers or magazines on the seats because the transit workers have to clean up after them. If this constitutes littering there would even be a fine imposed. How could I make what is supposed to be "an easy placement" a little more of a pain? Should I complain? Go to a local paper? I feel kind of guilty because I used to do this kind of stuff all the time out in service. Anything to avoid door to door!

boredom got the best of me, and i took a glance at the "do you remember?
" on pg 30 of aug 15th watchtower 2006.. the question: "under the law, why did certain natural sexual functions make a person "unclean"?".
the answer: "the laws concerning uncleanness ascribed to seminal emissions, menstruation, and childbirth fostered good hygiene and a healthy lifestyle, stressed the sanctity of blood, and showed the need for atonement of sins.".
I know I am not the only one who believes that the Bible was dreamed up by men.
It always peeved me big time when the WTS would use the mosaic law as proof that the bible was not written by men, because of its' high standards in hygeine. It's similar to the rules on not eating certain animals. They didn't know how to properly prepare them, so some people got sick, and it was necessary to ban those particular animals from the diet. It's called empricism. If they were the sole chosen people of an omniscient God why wouldn't he just teach them how to prepare the animal properly? It's just another massive gap in trying to weave the tribal God of the OT with the Christian one. It just can't work seamlessly. Christ was very liberal with the women, it took Paul to come and reinstitute mysogyny and make it de rigeur in Christianity.
