To illustrate a point in his talk, an elder pulled a plastic gag chicken from the podium. He had 'em rolling in the aisles. I can't remember the point, but what biblical point would be enhanced by a plastic chicken?

They'd have to DF Jesus.
Of course, they pretty much already have. -

Disassociate or "Fade"
by done4good ini know this has probably been discussed before, but i would like to take a poll of your thoughts as to what you personally would do, disassociate yourself or just fade over time.
i've been in the process of "fading" myself since november of last year, (last meeting in january, and never going back).
i have been considering making it official though by formal letter of da.

Fading is better, if you can manage it. I faded almost 30 years ago and still have a close relationship with my JW parents (although we do avoid talking about religion).

JW's going door to door in poor neighborhoods
by Wordly Andre ini'm not sure if its just me, but i've noticed that every time i drive through the "ghetto part of my city" ok maybe ghetto is a poor choice of words but poor neighborhood, i always see jw's out in the streets.
i live in the same city only in the better part and i hardly ever see jw's on my street?
not that i am complaining about it but, i was thinking do they target lower income families, or in their eyes uneducated people for their ministry?

***Besides, no one is ever home in middle to upper-class neighborhoods.***
That was my favorite kind of neighborhood, not because it was upper class, but because no one was home!
When I was a JW, I don't remember any neighborhoods getting more attention than others, but that was nearly 30 years ago. I guess things have changed since then. -

why won't witnesses use tv or radio?
by moomanchu inthe radio was used extensively in the 1920's and 1930's.
by 1933 the society was using 403 radio stations to broadcast bible lectures.
later, the use of the radio was largely replaced by increased house-to-house visits by witnesses with portable phonographs and recorded bible talks.

Too expensive. They can barely manage to keep up with their magazines. Remember: layoffs, monthly Awakes?

***They dont call male turkeys stupid for nothing.***
Are the female turkeys supposed to be smarter? I thought all turkeys were stupid. It's a shame about your car. Maybe you could put those owl silhouette stickers on your car to scare them away. Turkeys are probably dumb enough to fall for that.

***So, what are we here for? Is it merely for entertainment? Is it to help out? Is it to find a voice and evolve; Is it to meet up with other "survivors"?; Is it to sharpen our teeth on doctrine, policy, argumentation, history, or life in general?; Is it to grow and help grow?; Is it to make a few friends, and hopefully not too many enemies?***
There's one more reason. Many people come here in an emotionally fragile state and are hoping for support to see them through their crises. They may come to rely on posters here and eventually to see them as friends. Not that any one poster is more important than another, but I think it's a courtesy to your friends to let them know if you will be away for a lengthy period or permanently. Everyone, including me, was wondering what had happened to Gumby and several others when we didn't see their posts. I was afraid he was ill. I would rather see the "swan songs" (in spite of the occasional ranter) than wonder what happened to posters who suddenly drop off the radar. -

"So Alone"
by scout575 in"my dad died when i was 13, and my closest cousin got raped and stabbed and burned when i was 15. i am an only child so she was the closest thing i had to a sister.
i felt so alone too.
no one in the churches i attended seemed to care.

Scout,
Thanks for the warning, but the people least likely to get sucked into an oppressive belief system are exJWs. Most of us have already been through the JW "Christian" hell, and we're pretty well armed against getting burned twice (excuse the pun). -

***(“[t]he relation which the law calls agency does not depend upon the intent of the parties to create it, nor their belief that they have done so . . . if the agreement results in the factual relation between [the parties] to which are attached the legal consequences of agency, an agency exists although the parties did not call it agency and did not intend the legal consequences of the relation to follow.”)***
This was the most interesting part of J.Green's dissent. Just because the WTS and the JW (Nunes) both claim the JW was acting independently does not prove there was no connection between them. I wonder if this may be the beginning of a trend to hold the WTS responsible for the actions of its followers.
