Hi, LIG. Regarding your lingering doubts: I wonder if that's a result of being in the religion since early childhood. Like you, I was dragged to meetings by my parents but I was in my early teens when the JW thing started. Like you, the religion never really "took," and I left in my mid-20s. Unlike you, I have absolutely no lingering doubts, none. I'm wondering if the earlier in life the WTS gets hold of you, the more residual guilt you have. Thoughts, anybody?

It's My Turn
by Life Is Grand inanother post from a newbie(who has been lurking around here for a couple of years now).. my story is nothing exciting really.
i grew up pretty much from the age of 3 or 4 in the jw religion.
my parents both became witnesses at that time, then after a couple of years, my mother "saw the light", and stopped going, but my father dragged my sister and i along with him for many years to come.

Any question that most witnesses are whacked? (video)
by Jourles inyet another example of ludicrousness.
obviously this was a homemade video production.
it came from a jw chain email.

Watchtower Rules?
by grissom6471 init really amazes me when people say that the watchtower rules or controls people.
i heard on the news that the vatican issued a statement calling for a .
boycott of davinci code movie and book.

Grissom6471: "The Watchtower does not do that. Jehovah's Witnesses know Bible principles that lead us to not want to do those things so any such boycotts are voluntary."
Wow, not only does the WTS brainwash its adherents but does it in such a way that they believe they're making the "right" decisions of their own free will. To me, this is the scariest thing about them. -

See, now that's what I should have done as a JW teen in high school, instead of creeping around like a frightened mouse.

Loss of Elders
by metatron inlarge numbers of jw congregations are going to be trouble long before they lose their last elder to death or resignation.. most congregations i know have at least one - and often several - elders who can barely function at all, due to illness, old age.
or just plain inability to accomplish anything.
the society seems loathe to remove these men, despite their 'elder in name only'.

"Am I the only one who has always been creeped out by the term 'deleted?'"........No, Under-believer, I too am creeped out. "Delete" is a common copy editing term to remove unwanted words from text, and since the WTBTS is a printing business, I guess that was the first convenient term that came to their minds. But to me, deleted reminds me of other sinister euphemisms: "collateral damage, wet work, retired, etc."

"It might sound kinda stupid, but I WANT surgery!" ...............In my experience, when someone says he wants surgery, the pain has to be pretty awful. Don't beat yourself up too much about your parents and previous inaction. You're doing something now--concentrate on that. Best of luck.

Windowless Buildings
by IHaveASavior inwhy are there no windows in the buildings known as "kingdom halls of jehovah's witnesses?
-

We were told at our cong (which had windows but set up high in the walls--no view) that windows with a view would be distracting and encourage not paying attention to the speakers. And they were right too--watching paint dry on a neighboring house would have been exhilirating compared to the droning monotony of JW meetings.

Zack said: "Reasoning on the Scriptures? That surely is a joke coming from WTS HEadquearters, since NO ONE is ALLOWED to REASON on the Scriptures, only PARROT what the WTS says the Scriptures are.".........Zack, you're insulting parrots by comparing them to the WTS.

Your Reply Would Help Me A Lot
by AnonymousUser inhello.. my name is sam.
i would firstly like to say that i am not a jehovah witness, and i hope that being on this forum without being in the religion will not offend anyone.
i am only 16 years of age, however i am interested in the religion of jevohav witness due to my girl friend.

Hi, Sam. The reason your girlfriend’s mom does not want anything to do with you yet still accept others based on how they dress and where they go to school is because she is shallow and narrow-minded. It’s a hard lesson to have to learn, but adults (and especially Jehovah’s Witnesses) can be terribly unfair for no good reason at all. Resolve now not to be that kind of person when you become an adult. In the meantime it looks like your only reasonable option is to try to forget this girl. Best of luck to you.

The showy display of one's "friendliness" at the Kingdom Hall
by truthseeker ini recently read the elder's manual, from the rexamine.org website.. there is an interesting article on how elder's train ministerial servants to "greet" people at the doors.
they are told to be friendly to the those in attendance and to arrive early and stay late to associate with the friends.. in other words, it would seem that the friendliness shown by elders and servants at the halls is more of a duty than a desire to get to know the brothers and sisters.. many times, elders and servants have been enthusiastic to me in their greetings only, but rarely stop to engage in conversation.
they are not interested in people, only an outward appearance of friendliness, which bolsters the image of the org as having genuine love..

I occasionally used to drag my unbeliever husband to meetings when we were first married. By the end of the meeting, he was always sweating profusely even though the room temperature was normal. Only after I left the org did he tell me that he sweated like that because he felt smothered by all the "friendliness" that he instinctively knew was phony. Talk about a bad first impression!
