Can you admit that you "used to be one of Jehovah's Witnesses"?
by undercover ini was reading about minimus' trip to the hospital and his telling them that he "used to be a jw" but he would take blood now if needed.. it got me to thinking; i don't like telling people that i used to be a jw.
that's in my past and i prefer to keep it there.
if asked about my upbringing or religious preference, i usually just comment on being brought up in a strict religion but i got over it..and then try to change the subject.

As a JW did you ever think Jah "performed miracles" because you were one?
by LovesDubs ini seriously think i lost all sense of reality as a jw.
i was first associated wiht the jws in 1984. june specifically.
i was studying, had my little live forever book and my aid book and went out to california to visit my sister.

***I once saw Pastor Russells face in a corn torilla, does that count?***
LOL!!! That's not a miracle! That's a sign that the apocalypse is upon us! Maybe there was some miracle wheat mixed with the corn in that tortilla.
Personally, I never saw anything that made me think Jehovah could do anything more powerful than to ruin my day. -

Pina colada (nonalcoholic) smoothie: 1 1/2 cups frozen chunks of fresh pineapple, 1/2 cup plain yogurt, 1/2 cup pineapple juice, 1 tablespoon sugar, 1 teaspoon coconut extract. Blend. (Ingredient amounts can be varied a bit according to taste).

Vulnerable, the JW or the apostate?
by Fatfreek inin my internet browsing i've seldom come across expressions of non-jw's fearing contact with jw's -- as if the jw beliefs would rub off on us, or contaminate us.
on the other hand, during my years-ago meeting attendance and reading of the wt publications this seemed to be a perpetual theme -- be on guard, watch your faith.
it was as if one week away from the meetings would place an irrepairable dent in the witness armour.

***It was as if one conversation with a DF'd person would be the first step toward the outside.***
I don't fear JWs, only pity them. They are the vulnerable ones because most have brains capable of thinking logically, but they're forced to suppress their natural reasoning abilities constantly in order to stay in line with WTS thinking.
If they were to allow one shred of common sense to start rattling around in their heads, their whole rattletrap belief system might start to crumble. JWs who fervently wish to remain JWs have much more to fear from apostates. Yes, even one conversation with a DFed person could be "dangerous" to a JW who wishes to hold tight to their illusions.
The WTS knows what it's doing when it forbids JWs to listen to apostates--a free interchange of ideas is deadly to thought control tactics. -

Would you still be a JW

would you still be a jw if you had not been disfellowshipped?

I was never DAed or DFed, but I wouldn't go back even if the dark clouds rolled back and a shining angel came forth with a flaming sword and a trumpet and said with a voice like thunder, "Parakeet, get back into the 'Truth' right now or your feathers will be toast!"
Not noway, not nohow. -

What do ex-JW's still believe
by spiceant in.
the wts teaches many things:end times (at hand)armageddon (to come within <25 years)resurrection (to paradise)paradise (beyond armageddon)satan deceives all earthjesus died on a stick, not crossdemonsanimals eat grass in paradise (including carnivores).
which of these points do the ex-jws among you still believe?
-

As an exJW, I don't believe any of those things. Why would I toss out the absurd idea that a loving God is willing to destroy 6 billion people at Armageddon, but still believe Jesus died on a stick? Your list doesn't make any sense.
On the other hand, I get warm fuzzy feelings from the image of intestinal worms peacefully eating straw in the new order. Hard to give up that pleasant picture. -

........deluded, suffering, deeply unhappy, stressed beyond belief, conscience-ridden (if they still have a conscience), and deeply deserving of pity and compassion. However, the religion itself deserves nothing but contempt.

Do you think she is trying to butt into my medical decisions?

I very deliberately have included only nonJW names on my emergency contact list. There is no way on this green earth I would let a JW have any say in my medical treatment.

"Oh that I should have to go thru this..."
by Hellrider inwhen my mother was on her deathbed, she mumbled these words: "oh, that i should have to go thru this...".
i was the one sitting there when she said that, half-way into a coma, and she sounded kind of surprised when she said that.
she was fanatic in her belief in jw-doctrine (although she was inactive the last few years of her life), and she fully believed that armageddon was coming "any day now".

My elderly JW parents' health is beginning to fail, and the realization that they will not survive to see the "new order" after all the promises made to them over the years has hit them very hard. My mom especially is very depressed and fearful about what is ahead for her -- she has developed cancer and heart trouble within the past 2 years and is having a terrible time coping with her disabilities at a time she had always hoped would be a rebirth into Jehovah's "new order."
I don't know if these events has affected her faith (we don't talk about JW doctrine), but her emotional state is very low. It is a terrible thing to see an elderly person's illusions knocked out from under them at such an extreme age--there is no buffer between them and the realities of old age and death. My heart often breaks for them.
