***AND I thought they taped the mirrors because demons were on the other side.***
But there are demons on the other side!! When I look in a mirror, I see an apostate demon!!

Assemblies: Queues (Lines) at the Ladies, and taping over mirrors
by Duncan inthis topic sufaces here every now and again, with people reporting on the way that in some locations, the brothers tape paper over the mirrors in the ladies toliets, in order to speed things up and reduce queues.
i posted this a couple of years ago, but i'm resurrecting it now because i think this is relevant and interesting:.

Has being a Jehova's witness totally shattered your faith?
by Silvia Plath injust because the watchtower society is wrong doesn't mean that there is no god, nor does it mean there is a god.
it would interesting to now how former members have adjusted thier cosmology, or whether they are now atheists and why.
i personally see religion as a more personal matter, rather than belonging to an organization.

***I personally see religion as a more personal matter, rather than belonging to an organization.***
For many years after leaving the JWs, I was an atheist. Then I started reading about other religions: Christian, Judaism, Buddhism, Native American, Pagan, Wiccan. My present opinions (belief is too strong a word) are derived from aspects of all of these belief systems. They probably wouldn't make much sense to anyone else, but they work for me. -

The quickest, best way to have a Witness open their eyes to being a cult
by free2beme inmy sister was probably one of the most loyal witnesses out there.
all her responses were pulled right from the watchtower thinking, "sorry you feel that way, but i believe jehovah's witnesses are god's people.
" well in time we came to an agreement, "you do not bring up your negative thoughts on the religion, and i will not try to get you to come back to the religion.

One would think that the sister adopting a child would be a welcome thing to the JWs -- another child to be brought up as a JW and "saved." Instead they act like the kid is Damien from "The Omen." Weird way of thinking.
BTW, I've been inactive for almost 30 years, and here's the number of times elders came to pay a "shepherding" visit -- 0. -

DECEPTIVE JW EDLERS #1
by Amazing indeceptive jw elders #1 .
on h20 i posted a justice series with 12 judicial case experiences for the purpose of showing how decisions are made, and to highlight the poor training, lack of education, and often the incompetence shown by watch tower appointed elders.
even those of us with a measure of secular education were often untrained in essentials of dealing with peoples personal and emotional problems.

An "Amazing" example of trickle-down deception in action: the WTS is deceptive in large things and sets the example for the elders in their turn to hoodwink the R&F.

move topic here: ex-JW dating a current JW
by dustrabbit inso, it's a saturday night, i'm home alone and my love/social life sucks.
so, i was iming a few minutes ago with a friend of mine who doesn't live here in denver, bitching about my love life... so, he since he realizes i tend to date conservative women, he asks me why i haven't hooked up with a jw woman and then get her away from the borg.
now, there's a risky proposition and it's obvious my friend has never been in borg.

***he asks me why I haven't hooked up with a JW woman and then get her away from the Borg.***
This is a case in which the end does not justify the means. It would be dishonest and potentially very damaging to the woman. -

***Of course it is not socially acceptable for women to swear***
You're the one who also thinks a "dignified husband" shouldn't accept his wife's dressing provocatively. What else do you think we women ought not to be doing, GD? Because, of course, we don't have the brains to decide these things for ourselves, do we? -

22 years old is an age where many are still "kids." But it's also an age where the transition needs to begin for the child to become an adult. Don't make things too easy for him or he'll never learn, and many things he needs to know about life aren't learned in college, either.
When my son was 22, my husband and I despaired he would ever grow up. He was scatterbrained, careless, took everything for granted, etc. He's now 30 with a job at a major corporation and is getting married soon to an absolutely lovely girl. So the point is, they eventually do grow up, but even in their 20s, they often need some parental guidance, usually in the form of tough love. -

Is it cancer? STOP! Don't talk about it.
by Tigerman ini visited my jw son and daughter - who were raised in the faith - in may.
my son is 37 years old, intelligent and is a hard worker and a good provider for his family.
we were having breakfast when my daughter-in-law mentioned the ' lump' on my sons back.

***The paranoia of the medical profession that has been deeply ingrained in the JW mindset does manifest itself in resistance to treatment for many issues. Mental as well as physical.***
I agree that JWs resist treatment for mental problems. I know a JW married to a certifiable lunatic who never goes out of the house, lives upstairs with the windows covered in aluminum foil, and believes everything she touches, eats or breathes is loaded with poisons. The husband has never taken her for psychiatric treatment, only to crackpot doctors with dubious degrees and even more dubious treatments. He's been "explaining" her symptoms for years as the result of, variously, hypoglycemia, chronic fatigue syndrome, chemical sensitivity. After so many years of neglect, I think she's beyond even psychiatric help now. -

Nauseating Trip down memory lane.....
by caligirl ini was reading through a journal i kept for my oldest son when he was a baby, and came accross a couple of entries that just make me cringe.
i was writing about my grandparents, the last of which passed away (not witnesses) when he was still less than a year old.
the journal is written like a letter to him for when he is older.

***My Grandfather always felt that my Dad became a witness just to spite him.***
That's ironic. My mother always felt that I left the JWs just to spite her. If she only understood. As it is, she's missed sharing holidays and birthdays with her grandchildren. So many potential memories lost. -

"Actually JWs should be hoping for "peace and security" since that is what happens just before the UN destroys Babylon the Great, according to WTS interpretations."
Blondie, I remember my JW parents getting all excited when the Berlin Wall came down and the Soviet bloc was dismantled in the early 90s. They thought that was the "peace and security" that would lead directly to the great trib and Armageddon.
Good times or bad, the JWs have the answer to everything. It's an all-purpose, all-temperature religion.
