***"this good news of the kingdom will be preached throughout the world, and then the end will come"?***
Daystar, the WTS should have fiddled with this scripture as well as John 1:1 in the NWT. They should have had it read, "this good news of the kingdom will be preached throughout the nations with cooperative governments, and then the end will come." I guess it's too late for them to try to "revise" it now.

Is China just Satan's home and his people?
by free2beme ini remember being told that the end would not come until everyone has had a chance to hear god's message.
yet as we know, the witnesses have not been able to get into china with any real organized movement.
for a long time, we expected some amazing change to happen there, much like we saw when the soviet union fell.

Is America one big cult?
by barry indont get me wrong im not a yanky basher like some we know but when visiting my dad the other day got me thinking when he played a dvd he had.. the dvd was of a concert of religious music by the assembly of god and the sdas most of the program was very good with excellent prerformers and uplifting music.
i thought the sdas in the states looked like they were being influenced by the more charasmatic a of g people because many were raising there hands like the aof g do.. there was nothing too unusual until about two thirds through when some marines marched in with the yanky flag with a marine either side complete with rifle .
the remainder of the concert was dedicated to nationalistic hyms of which i cant recall the titles.

***As you may know our head of state isnt even an Australian she is English. When we go to court its The Crown v John Doe not the people v John Doe. Also we all speak the Queens english here. Also our head of state isnt a politician.***
I already knew those things, Barry, because I've done some reading about Australia, which I think is a unique and fascinating country/continent. I would never attempt to categorize Australia and its people as one big anything. BTW, I've never heard the Queen say, "gday." -

Noah's rectangular Ark
by vomit insomething from when i was younger; i always was forced to believe that noahs ark was rectangular, since it was in the bible stories and other publications that way.
but in any other religious books the ark always had at least a bit of a curved stern and a v or u shaped hull.
a v or u shaped hull with ribs is far stronger, timber efficient, hydrodynamic and can take a few hits.

***Why not just create all new animals after the flood waters receded?***
Don't you remember, undercover, that God was "resting" during his 1000-year sabbath? That meant no more creation, only wholesale destruction.
And they all lived happily ever after. -

Great article. Thanks, Blondie.
I must say, the one huge regret I have about leaving the JWs is that I'll never get to have my very own, straw-eating intestinal worm to play with in the new order. -

If divine intervention was needed to keep the ark afloat, why didn't God just keep Noah and the animals suspended in mid-air above the water? Why would God require an ark at all?
Discussion about the seaworthiness of the ark is like discussing what kind of poison the evil queen used in the apple she gave to Snow White. It's a fairy tale! -

DC in Ireland: Warning about groups of bros who want to modernise the WT
by truthseeker in.
i just heard this from someone who attended a district convention in ireland.. the brother told me that the speaker said that there were brothers forming groups to try and modernise the watchtower society.
has anyone heard anything like this in the usa?

While skimming posts from 2001-2002, I came across a post (I don't remember who wrote it) that said the only WT doctrine that needs to be changed right now is their disfellowshipping policy. If they stopped the shunning, then this board, reform groups, and all other vehicles for change would no longer be needed. Honest discussion about all JW doctrine could then take place where it always should have -- in the KHs, the branch offices, and Bethel itself. If that were ever to happen, all the other hateful doctrines would soon fall by the wayside.
That's why the WTS will never change its position on shunning. -

What if caffeine was banned for JWs?
by undercover ina post about caffeine and coffee in the "what if the wts banned alcohol" thread jogged my memory.... back in the 70s sometime (i can't remember if it was pre-75 or post-75) a rumor started circulating around our area that at the next convention the wts was going to add caffeine and caffeine products (coffee, coke, etc) to the list of banned substances (tobacco, blood).
of course, it never happened, but for a couple of months the rumors were hot and heavy.
the rumors were easily believed by a lot of the dubs because of the "up" effects caffeine can give you and besides, the mormons banned it, there had to be a reason.

The WTS will never ban caffeine or alcohol. They know those are the only things that get JWs through their miserable days. Caffeine to keep them awake during meetings and alcohol afterward to dull the misery of what they heard.

Precicely, what is "Jehover's Organization"?
by Elsewhere insomething i have noticed about the watchtower society is that it denies being jehover's organization.
instead they say they are a publishing corporation that caters to the needs to jehover's witnesses by printing literature, organizing conventions, aiding in the construction of facilities, etc.. this is true!
they also deny being the faith and discrete slave, so this leaves us with some very simple but critical questions:what is jehover's organization?

Hats off to Simon for this board
by truthseeker ini wanted to personally thank simon for all his hard work in keeping this board running, for the better part of six years.
it's not easy keeping track of thousands of members, dealing with their complaints etc, but he's done it.. i know a few old timer's have left, but many more have joined, some of them who held or are holding prestigious positions in the society.. we need this board for the sake of us, newbies and the lurkers.. does it matter if new jw boards appear?
to quote a favorite wt phrase, "not at all!

This forum's not perfect, but it's the best around. I've lurked on other JW sites that allow anything and everything, and 50% of the posts on them are profane, pointless and vicious. I don't mind the few rules here that prevent garbage posts.
Thank you, Simon.
