In a pinch, I use a bag of frozen vegetables. Keeps cold pretty long, and it will mold itself to whatever you want to keep cool. I used to go through frozen veg bags pretty quick when my son was young; he was always getting bumps on the head or knees.

Recipe for cold pack
by poppers indoes anyone have a recipe for making a cold pack which won't freeze solid?
i've looked in pharmacies for them and don't want to spend the money they charge for them.

Can you prepare solid meals?
by greendawn incan you prepare interesting solid meals or do you not have the flare for it and instead prefer to live on take aways, restaurant meals or simple casual snack meals at home?
i find it hard to concentrate on cooking though i always want to do it and i have actually put together some interesting recipes several times.
there is a strange resistance blocking me.

***There is a strange resistance blocking me.***
I hope it's not a latent belief that women should do the cooking!
As juni said, timing is everything. I would also recommend not being too ambitious. If your main course is a bit complicated, keep the side dishes (veggies, salad, potatoes) very simple. If you want to fuss over a complicated vegetable dish, then keep the meat and starch (rice, noodles, potatoes) prep simple.
Jacques Pepin's book, "Fast Food My Way" is excellent for delicious, fairly simple dinners. -

How open are you to new ideas.
by poodlehead inwhen i was a jw, i believed what i was told to believe.
after all it was the truth.
but now i no longer believe that what they were telling me was the truth.

I'm open to hearing new ideas. Whether I accept them or not is another question.

How Will You Die at Armageddon?
by Nosferatu in.
before i found this website, i accepted the fact that i was going to be destroyed at armageddon.
but now that i know it's a big lie, i don't worry about that.. but just for fun, if you could choose your armageddonly death, how would you like to go?

Wouldn't care, as long as I could first tell Jehovah exactly what I think of him and his braindead bunch of followers.

What has this board given to you?
by Crumpet inhaving cooled down a bit in the garden i got to thinking about what this board has given me and wondered what anyone else feels they have gained from it.. for me its been invaluable and even life changing:.
1) freedom from the brainwashing - when i came here i had already read ray franz's books and still believed it jws had the truth - hat i was basically worthless and that i would die at armageddon.
the reasoned conversations and help of the posters from all over the world has enabled me to have freedom of thought - something i didnt even know i didnt have until i spent time here.. 2) friends who empathise and know from an experience what i have been through in a way outsiders can never possiby understand.. 3) entertainment - unbelievable laughs and moments of humour that have cheered me up so many times.. 4) association - via the aposta bbqs and telephone chats i can now have so i don't feel so isolated and to some extent alleviates the awful pain of separation from my loved family.. 5) information - from this board and posters here i have found out things that were my right to know but would never have learnt otherwise - my sisters marriage, my aunts tragic death.. 6) reunions - i have now met at least one person who knows me from my childhood and has grown into a man of such kindness and patience that i would have missed out on completely had he not been here and been kind enough to hold my hand - even when i've been an irritating totured little idiot!.

I came here a few months ago looking for information about JWs, but I stayed because so many posters' stories were so poignant. I grew interested in them and followed their progress with great interest.
I faded almost 30 years ago, and other than Barbara G. Harrison's "Visions of Glory," I had never read anything anti-JW since the late 70s. A few months ago, I had reason to believe some JW relatives were going to confront me about my beliefs (or lack of), so I decided I needed to study up on what the JWs have been doing recently.
The incredible amount of harm the WTS causes absolutely astounded me. I always thought I'd had a rough time with the JWs, but was shocked to read here about people who had and continue to have a terrible struggle with the JWs and their loveless doctrines. My relatively peaceful departure and happy life since have taught me that I was extremely fortunate to have gotten away so lightly. And for that I'm thankful.
My relatives never did confront me, but I plan to stay on this board a while longer. -

Is becoming a witness the right thing for me
by marketman ini've been struggling for quite some time now about continuing my exploration of the jehovah witness faith.
i am a "cradle" catholic and have been very involved with the church.
i started to become disillusioned several months back with all of the tradition, habits, and teachings of the church--which i began to seriously doubt.

If you have or plan to have children, you owe it to them if not to yourself to explore fully all aspects of the JW religion. Children raised as JWs have a particularly difficult time in school. They will always feel alienated from schoolmates and teachers. The experience will scar them for life. I'm not exaggerating.
Keep an open mind and don't be afraid to ask hard questions. -

Confession time
by looking_glass inokay, so i was at an free out door festival about a week ago.
there was a rather dirty looking woman there with her little yorkie, who looked rather skinny and was a little mangy.
so i asked the woman if i could pet the dog.

Forgive me, looking glass, for I have sinned. I once picked up fleas from a stray cat I petted. I never realized how nasty flea bites were, but they're still preferable to ringworm. Don't worry; it clears up very quickly with the medication (my husband caught ringworm many years ago).

The End is coming Pretty Soon, Folks
by Flowerpetal ini have been inactive from jws since 2003. i don't post here very much -- do more reading than posting.
but i just had to tell y'all that i got a one-page tract this evening which is an invitation to attend the deliverance at hand convention.. yes...the end is coming pretty soon because never before in jw history has an invitation or tract been distributed to a city not designated a convention city.. the end is also coming pretty soon because i was told at the convention there will be a lot of talks about noah and what he faced.. in addition, the end is very near because later on this year there will be several announcements coming from the society.
wow!

Bringing up this subject may add more stress to his already stressful condition. But you know your father best.
I have no idea about what happens after we die, except for this: Wherever our parents go after they die, that is where we eventually will go too. It's not much, but I find it comforting. Best of luck to you and your family.
