  My sister got engaged...........on the same day as her birthday. We cant go

  my wife who is still a jw refuses.

  to be honest the engagement would be taking centre stage and my family have respect for my wife so my sisters birthday wouldnt be mentioned.

  Is there one thing that keeps you from going back?

  i had email contact this week for the first time with an old boyfriend--haven't seen him in 28 years!

  i'm trying to compose an answer...there are a hundred reasons why i will never go back, but how to sum it up?

  i'm thinking along the lines of "i just don't believe that the society/gb is god's representative on earth" and see if he presses further.. suggestions, anyone?.

  Is there a better way to convince family?

  i've been thinking about this a lot.

  i think a lot of people are like me (especially after researching the witnesses via sources like this board), in that they attempt to convince their family, weather directly or indirectly, that the wts is wrong.

  while there is a possibility of this working, the chances seem small, at least for dyed in the wool witness families.

  In Finland, we dont have public votings much anymore. Now we are only voting with our wallets. That's why prices example in flying tickets or mobile phone calls are changing really quickly. :P Now there is a law for cheaper medicines: If you go to pharmacy, they must offer you "brand-medicines" and cheaper non-brand medicines. Same stuff with different package. And customer can decide what medicine they buy. I think this voting with wallet works pretty nicely now.

  After finnish heavy-metal band Lordi won Eurovision song contest band wanted media to stop trying to publish pictures without masks. Finnish shit-magazines Katso! and 7-päivää still wanted to publish picture about Lordi without masks. Finnish fans and people got very angry about not respecting their honest will and started to rise against those magazines.
  1 of the biggest breweries Olvi Oyj has now withdrawn their advertisements from magazines. Finnish travel agencies are withdrawing their ads from magazines website.
  There is over 200 000 people who have given their signature for boycott of those magazines. Magazines have already sent their apologies and they replaced unmasked pictures with masked ones. Finnish people are not still happy, over 8000 have cancelled their order of 7-Päivää magazine. Even some goverment members have said that publishing pictures against their wish is not good ethics of media.
  
  There will also be protest march against those magazines in front of their office later today.
  
  
  Funny :) I have always thought that even Finland is democracy we don't have real power. Now it seems that people still have some power left.

  what i hate the most

  what i hate the most about being a witness is having to wear suits all the time.

  especialy out in service in hot weather.

  but i miss seeing all those sisters in those tight controversial dresses.

  Meetings, field service, conventions @ summer (too hot weather).
  I also hate the "only true religion" thing, and all-the-time gossips..
  I also hate people who are just "showing up" their good side and inside is dirty as it can.
  I also hate visits of elders, visits of circuit overseer and the "SPECIAL WEEK" stuff... that sucks
  I hate man-made rules what they have... I hate it all :)

  "Only real christians" even they do not even meet regulations for being christian (trinity, jesus = god and so on)
  "We are the only one who follow example of jesus christ" (About field service, mormons do field service also. And some pentacostal movement guys do..)

  I'm trying to collect things, which are crucial points for JW beliefs so I can write something about all of those things. There are lot's of audience of stories like this and very little information, especially in finnish language. :)
  
  My "last drop" was year 607 & 1914 and research on history of those years. They just copied some years from adventists and then changed meanings. I could not believe to their teachings after I started to read Watchtowers with critical eye. I also had some doubts about JW's being only "real christians" and those doubts were leading to serious study of their teachings.
  
  So, tell me what was your "crossroads" :)

  phone convo with mum, help with research

  well another convo with mum and i absolutely cornered her on the 'your dedicated to jehovah not the religion' point (thanks all for info) i said ' did you research what we talked about' she said 'jehovah helped me out as usual it was in the watchtower that weekend' i said 'read it to me' after looking for as few minutes she says ' here it is' me-'allright' her 'in the box' me-'gimme the box' she reads quetion #1 before shes finished i say beautiful ive got no problem with that now gimme question #2, she reads it,,, i said where the hell does organisation fit into that sentence?

  its a verbal contract so they can diss you if you ever leave regardless of you relationship with jehovah.

  she gets flustered, epecially when my stepdad is in the background agreeing with me, she puts me onto stepdad, (ill say they are both great just mind controlled) he agrees its a valid point, i said i dont agree with the influence the org has over peoples lives, i brought up that higher education is frowned upon and people are not educating themselves because of that and he said it was only if an elder gave a talk and put his own spin on it that that would be classed as a rule (classic argument putting people in front of the org i call it the human sheild tactic), he pretty much said the society has never printed anything to his knowledge saying that but he'll research it and i said id do the same so i need help.

  Tip for a thing you should ask and try to talk about:
  
  Is governing body guided by holy ghost?
  If JW says yes, then ask why do they make false profecies and mistakes
  If JW says no, then ask why they consider themselves as the only "god's channel" if they are not guided by God's spirit.
  
  That is a situation that JW cannot win.
