two deaths and no calls...
by detective inwell, my disfellowshipped friend was seeking out an older, non-jw relative who he had wanted to invite to a monumental event in his life.
he wasn't able to reach her at her home so he eventually gave up and sought out his jw parents.
in doing so, he learned that the elderly relative had died a little less than a year earlier (a few months after he had been disfellowshipped).

Thanks for your thoughts. On some level, my friend still believes he deserves that sort of treatment. He feels always the cad for leaving the group. As a result, he always felt a little ashamed.
He tried half-heartedly to defend his father's actions by saying that his father was doing what he believed was right but even he wasn't really convinced and he eventually left it at a deeply saddened, "he should have called".
My friend has a very small family. Losing two people in it, although not immediate family, has a staggering impact. They were his connection to something larger than his dysfunctional witness immediate family.
Loss is so hard. I'm sorry for you folks who have gone through this. It isn't about the witness sense of propriety. It isn't about witnesses struggling to do the right thing.
It's about cruelty. Plain and simple.

Well, my disfellowshipped friend was seeking out an older, non-jw relative who he had wanted to invite to a monumental event in his life. He wasn't able to reach her at her home so he eventually gave up and sought out his JW parents. In doing so, he learned that the elderly relative had died a little less than a year earlier (a few months after he had been disfellowshipped). He also learned that a dear, young non-jw relative had also died after a brief-ish illness. He hadn't known she was ill.
Illness. Two deaths. Not a single call.
Bastards. What the hell is wrong with that group? Stupid question, I know.
I'm trying not to hate his father. But it is really hard. His father knew how to reach him. He chose not to.
What a witness! What a beautiful, beautiful witness! This is how they expect to lure the likes of me in? This is what they want a non-witness to hear about? Well, I assure you, every non-witness friend of mine will hear what the tower does to families.
Did I say bastards already? Bastards. There, I said it again. That's for denying a dying old woman a last visit from grandson and letting her go to her grave without the boy who loved her standing near.

Let's see... in no particular order: Annette Benning, Jennie Garth, Sigourney weaver, seventies star who I refuse to name... they have one thing in common... Bug eyes and pug noses. Honestly, what's with the nose thing? I think I could put pretty much any body around a little nose people would be convinced that I looked like 'em. "Hey detective, if Gary Shandling had a small nose, you'd look just like him..." and how about the late Herve Villachez... I could be his twin. hmmm.

I'd be interested to hear what the guy behind the website thinks happened to the passengers on the flight? Were they all "manufactured" by some secret branch of the government? Or, if the website owner believes that those were real people- what happened to them? Were they taken directly from the airport into the "truck" that blew up the pentagon, thus leaving their personal effects at the scene? Or, were they abducted straight from the airport, the luggage they had put on the "truck" and brought to the pentagon while they were... um, killed? Or transported to a camp somewhere where they will never be seen by their families again? Or, was there really a plane that left the airport that the government intentionally diverted to (mystery location) and the passengers (killed/imprisoned/handed over to aliens) while the government sent the evil truck to blow up the Pentagon?
So, he's got a theory about plane. But what about the people? Spies? Martians? Pre-fab identities?

Preaching Slowdown
by cornish in.
i can remember numerous talks and study articles about how the preaching work would get more and more intense as we near the end.. one so called prophetic illustration that stands out in my mind was when joshua and his men marched around the city each day and then just before the city fell they marched seven times signifying a quickening of the preaching work.. it seems starkingly obvious that the preaching,is in decline amonst jw's,the jw's are seen less and less often in my neighbourhood,it is very rare to see them out street witnesing around the town centres and railway stations, the average jw spends far less time preaching than a decade ago.. it seems like their chief brag is definately on the wain,in favour of other recruitment methods.

Another benefit of field service: keeping minions busy.
I remember reading in a book on cults that cults tend to give people menial tasks to keep them occupied. Often, the tasks are so outrageously repetive and dull that adherents just "space out". When adherents are spacing out, they tend to be listless and less inclined towards really absorbing the details or, in other words, less viable ideologies of the group. Hence, less likely to stage a result. Additionally, if they aren't "spacing out" as a result of meaningless tasks, they are kept too occupied to really think about problems within the group.
"I'm too busy to even think..."
And since when is cleaning toilets a priveledge? Oh, that's right- it's not. But cults attack your self esteem by assigning demaning tasks (that is, if you aren't a housekeeper EARNING MONEY from your task which is a legitimate form of employment). They tell you that you are lucky to clean fecal matter from a human waste receptacle...
or mop a floor.
Cults... if they don't screw you one way... they screw you another!

Nah, but it was a good thought.
Hmmmm. Choices!
Let's see... cold cereal (maybe Special K) or homemade soup (well, I'm the one opening the can... so I consider that homemade!)

Blondie,
I think the Blackhawk waltz might have had it's heyday in the fifties or so but I'm just guessing. If it isn't Strauss Jr. it isn't in the classical/waltz sections of music stores, it seems. Maybe I should try the polka section ( if they even have one!) Perhaps I'm just looking in the wrong place (I mean, it's not polka but it seems like polka groups might be the only ones who still record it).
I'm trying to get a decent recorded version as a surprise for a family member. The only recording I've heard online so far was pretty painful. Truman's has to be better than that! I'll check out Amazon.com- you never know...
thanks!
