  i was simultaneously compelled and repelled by narkissoss suggestion that it may be healthy to present a story of how we became witnesses that we can now own as former or disillusioned witnesses.

  if we can now own it wouldnt it necessarily be a betrayal?

  whose story is it, mine or a former self or just wishful thinking?

  Did anyone here ever really like field service?

  as i have stated in previous posts, i absolutely hated field service.

  hated it.

  i dreaded it with a passion and couldn't wait to be done.

  Being raised by Witnesses, I had no choice but to become an unbaptised publisher when they thought I was old enough. I disliked "field service" ever since.

  I didn't mind going on Bible studies with other people so much. Doing other people's return visits was okay. I hated going up to houses cold, not knowing who or what to expect. I never participated in phone witnessing because I can't stand getting calls from telemarketers myself.

  All in all, I can't remember a single time in my life that I ever looked forward to going to the hall to meet for FS. It's much nicer to stay at home in bed and sleep late.

  The magazines were boring to me when I was younger. When I became a bit more JW gung-ho, I paid more attention to the Watchtower. The Awake! always seemed to be so much fluff. Now, I just glance through them realizing exactly what they are, cult mind control literature.

  I don't want to Die in this system!!

  i have noticed many of my parents friends are slowly passing away.

  the daughter of a po told me he became inactive a year before his death because he never thought he would die in this system.

  he started smoking and watching porn as well.

  That is the one thing I have wanted to say to my family, to shock them, to wake them up. I don't think it would have the desired effect. I think they would stare at me like I'm crazy. At least they still talk with me. Whenever my mom says anything JW related, I just clam up. She's happy with the fairy tale, that's all I can say. They have no clue how deep the rabbit hole goes.

  Encountered Witnesses today at Dunkin Donuts, need some advice please

  i am behind in composing my "counter-witness" pamphlets that i have been wanting to design, but i've been compiling info still.

  problem is that days like today, when i talked to witnesses in a plaza, i did not have anything to give but my words.

  funny, i gave my business card to them(they were spanish), and told them to have someone call on me, so i can do a study with them.

  Ask them if they would be willing to talk about the "truth" with you without counting time in "field service."

  i am now the owner of my third vehicle i just sent the last payment into the finance company.

  15,000 dollars later, no more paying for that piece of crap now i can fix it.. .

  it's one of those moments the means so much to me but nothing to anyone else.

  lol! I know that feeling. The last car I bought new was a 2000 Toyota Echo. Great little car. Not too long after it was paid for I sold it. It had 130k miles (over 200k kilometers) on it. I've got a 1992 Toyota Pickup now with only 94k miles on it. A little rust here and there but still runs fine.

  Child sacrifice

  so everyone always goes on about how terrible baal worshipers were, sacrificing their children to him etc.

  do not parents therefore, of children who die from not accepting blood, carry out a very similar act.

  essentially, they allow their children to die just to please their god, and would be praised for standing firm right to the end, as they stood by and watched their child slowly slip away, knowing that they could save their life at any time.

  Hey, TD! I just realized that your avatar comes from the movie Paprika. On the topic: Remember that JWs don't see it as a sacrifice because they believe in the resurrection. The *real life*, according to them, starts in the New System (tm). The WTS keeps putting all those New Testament examples of martyrdom before the rank and file, most of whom still swallow hook, line, and sinker. What a waste.

  The Eden Story

  in the garden of eden, god supposedly didn't want adam and eve to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and bad.

  he preferred they remain innocent and incapable of deciding for themselves what is right or wrong.. along comes satan who wants them to eat of this tree and says they will become like god, knowing good and bad for themselves.

  he says they will be like god.. as we all know, they chose to eat and find out what they were missing.

  Well, God's ex-wife Asherah told me the whole story. Yep, no such thing as original sin. It was all made up for laughs. Yahweh just likes jerking people around, and he didn't really have a thing to do with creating them in the first place! She said she got a divorce from Yahweh after several millenia because he was such an abusive, controlling type. She also said that Jesus used to be a real momma's boy, too.

  apologies if someone has covered this already, but i'm a third of the way through this marvellous book which i'm enjoying more than richard dawkin's the god delusion.

  the full title of hitchens' book is god is not great - the case against religion.

  it pulls no punches and is extremely well written.
