  Dave Mustaine of Megadeth was raised as a JW.

  megadeth is a heavy metal band fronted by dave mustaine, who was raised as a jehovah's witness.

  mustaine was the original lead guitar player for metallica,in the early 80's, before they kicked him out for drunk behavior.

  i have been a fan of megadeth for years, but recently found out he was raised as a jw.

  It makes sense if you consider the JW superstition that those who are judged as "wicked" on Judgement Day are destroyed forever. The loophole is that if you die before Armageddon, then you have a chance for a resurrection. Too bad he is still caught up in religion.

  Perfection

  i was talking to a friend of mine about perfection last night.. he made a comment that there was no way to have perfection, unless you made one thing and set that as perfect.

  everything after that would be a copy and otherwise would always in some way fall short of perfect, the original creation.

  we were talking about art.. and then he made a comment that god did not create us perfectly.

  When I was a Witness, it was explained to me that "perfection" was relative. For humans, perfection meant the removal of our supposed inborn tendency toward wickedness. I accepted that explanation at the time and hoped that there would still be a place for learning and improvement of abilities and skills relative to one's application of effort. When you learn to play a piece of music, you are bound to make mistakes. You cannot play perfectly the first time through. You learn from your mistakes. It is part of the process.

  What If Artificial Intelligence Never comes?

  It took billions of years for higher level consciousness to develop in organic beings. You know, I notice "intelligence" in insects and arachnids (spiders). Why would we expect that machine intelligence will have to perfectly mimic higher order primate (human) intelligence.
  
  Furthermore, evolution shaped our thinking processes to work in conjunction with our internal and external environments. A brain without a body and its natural life support systems (air, water, food, etc.) doesn't work.
  
  It seems as if we have yet to fully appreciate and respect "natural" intelligence, and now we want to make "artificial" intelligence so we won't get in trouble if we mistreat it.

  Good topic. Lot's of good comments, too. I especially appreciated Mary's, Smiles', Fifi's, and Mr. Flipper's comments. Well, you can put me down in the "made bad choices when young" category as well. For that reason, I cannot judge young Mincan, but I do feel concern for him, and hope that he can realize his self worth.
  
  I am concerned about those few posters who gave him a "thumbs up." I was worried about you Nvr, but you made amends. :) Did they really read his post. Sure, he used lots of irony, which under the right circumstances can be humorous. But the source of his irony was pain. Whatever you do, don't minimize his pain. Anyone who can minimize the apparent pain of another may also be adept at doing the same for themselves, and this is not healthy. I present this as a concern, not a judgment. :)
  
  In his well articulated post I detected pain, sadness, powerlessness, and loneliness. Yes, trying to hook up with a girl at the assembly was extremely poor judgment on his part. Fortunately, no real harm was done. At his age the hormones are raging, and he compounded the problem with alcohol which can lower inhibitions. Mincan, if you are reading this, please learn from this experience. Casual sex will not relieve feelings of loneliness. Please know that many of us understand what you are going through. I wish I could give you advice about how to deal with your parents, but I'm still working things out for myself in that regard, and I'm almost 20 years older than you!
