Really? What's all this talk about training the elders 'for when the persecution' starts? What about all the study articles urging everyone to 'keep on the watch' and that the Great Tribulation is 'imminent'?? If they plan on selling everything off in the next 7 - 13 years, I guess the Governing Body members don't believe 'the End' is 'right around the corner' after all.

Actually Mary in this one case they are not idiots but in this case maybe you are a bit of one...

Just because they believe the end is around the corner doesn't mean they should stop all planning and activity and wait for it to happen. They still need to print stuff and keep an organization running...I mean come on!

You read the summary, it said they are working at Walkill in 2009 and then, after that is finished they'll start on Patterson in 2011. By the time they get Patterson up to spec it'll be 2013 or 2014 and then by the time they get all the people up there without interfering with production that'll be 2014/2015 at which point they can start selling the properties in Brooklyn.

NYC is a prime target for terrorists. The next big attack won't be planes, it'll be some guy on a subway with a dirty nuke...stuff like that could interfere with production. better to be out in the country, away from all that and also away from so much of the enticements of the world.

Many of the factory buildings are getting really old and the older they get the more expensive they'll be to maintain. Moving to Patterson into new buildings which can be custom built to handle modern printing presses would save money on increasing maintenence costs or if they ship most printing off to other branches then they can save a bundle.

No matter which way you look at it and no matter what you think of the WTS...it is a practical move to get out of NYC

i did not realize i had a topic left.. two years ago my brother committed suicide.. people from this board were very helpful and supportive.. suicide of a loved on is a difficult death to deal with.. my heart goes out to all who have lost a loved one to suicide.

I keep telling myself not to read threads that deal with suicide but here I am...

Xandria's statement is right on. Speaking as someone who came very close to ending his life, it is a darkness, like a huge. black storm cloud...but there is no end in sight.

You know that if you go thru with it you'll hurt the ones you love...but it becomes like an abstract fact, a peice of trivia. When things are that dark all you can think about is how alone you are, how no one really loves you, how much pain there is and how much you want it to go away...but it won't. Like being in the JW's these dark thoughts isolate you, making most people unable to really reach out and seek help.

I lived like that for months and to this day I'm not sure why I didn't go thru with it. Not a week goes by where I don't wonder if I should have gone thru with it.

I hope this doesn't upset anyone and i didn't mean to hijack the thread...but it's good to try and vocalize my feelings especially after reading the thoughts of those directly affected by suicide. It helps make the thoughts less abstract.

The JW's would probably be the last to be banned by the UN, they would probably have their grubby paws in the plan anyway. Traditional Christianity along with Islam would probably be the first to get the boot.. This is of course only my speculation.

This would be the French Wars of Religion but on a global scale...I don't seriously see this happening. Muslims and Hindu's would fight tooth and nail to prevent it (there's 1/3 of the world's population right there), fundementalists in the west would only go underground and live to fight another day... In this day and age I really don't think you could get away with it. The only reason places like China and North Korea still have religion under wraps (so to speak) is because they started in a different era.

I LOVE the Onion. I remember the first time I became aware of it was at a bookstore. I spotted "Our Dumb Century" and was just leafing thru the pages when i came across an article that purported to be quoting Jessie Helms' support of a Mapplethorpe exhibit saying (and I quote) "We need more of those hot, hot cocks"

I knew who Jessie Helms was at the time so i had all I could do not to erupt with laughter

Now I get the Onion daily updates by e-mail, I especially like the horoscopes

Interesting...but then Hoover was adpept at seeing enemies everywhere he wanted to.

I suppose he may have been up on the JW resistance to the Nazi's and feared that if the USA was invaded the JW's could cause headaches with their pacifist stance so best to take their leader out of the picture as there was really no one else of (and I use the term loosly) stature that could have filled Rutherford's shoes

if my memory of latin at school serves me, it was drummed into us by our teacher that in these circumstances the second vowel should be dropped.. so you latin experx, is it .

Colonoscopy = colin-oss-ka-pee

They did stick that thing up my ass a few years ago. I fainted when they put the IV in...but the DRUGS...oh man, what a rush. I was high the whole time. They took samples and I got to watch the whole thing on the TV.

After the gave me the drugs I was lying on my side nervous and cold and impatient. I called out "Are you sure you gave me anything. I don't feel any different". The Doctor replied "Yes, we're already in"...that's when I first noticed the TV. I couldn't take my eyes off the screen, and the fact that he has got that thing up my backside without me feeling a thing I was like "wooooooah...I want more of this"

I was in SUCH a good mood for the rest of the day though taking the samples was a bit disconcerting. No pain at all but I could feel the tugging. It was like someone was lightly pinching my roll.

HB: It's funny you raised this topic now. In the Aug 16th issue of the Economist there is a neat little article on page 57 talking about how the "shortcomings of English orthography" and how the rules for English spelling need updating, not scrapping. Apparently we spell the way we do in part to the "Great Vowel Shift" in the 15th and 16th centuires which left the spelling alone while changing pronunciation, because of the desire to align English spelling with it's Latin roots and finally because, unlike Italian, French and Spanish there is no central body capable of implementing a set of standards.

why empower satan to make claims and give him the time and circumstances to prove his claims?

This is a striking scripture. Think about that statement "Why, now there is nothing that they may have in mind to do that will be unattainable for them"

If "Jehovah" is truely all powerful, if he really did create all things then why make a statement like that? What was he thinking that we could attain? What did he not want us to see/know?
