i know a lot of christians, not just jws, don't feel comfortable celebrating halloween.
for me, it's just an excuse to have fun.
are there a lot of you out there who have fun on halloween?
My first Halloween (2002) felt a bit strange (as did signing birthday cards, etc., at first), but ended up being a blast. I came to work dressed as that main character from the movie 'Scream,' complete with black robe, hood, gloves, & fake blood that would appear on the plastic knife & mask with the press of a button

greetings, fellow arizonians (?),.
originally from michigan, but lived in southern california for the last fourteen months.
just this past week, my daughter and i moved into our new home in arizona--near phoenix.
Hampstead--Mi Nidito IS one of the best Mexican restaurants in Tucson (if you can stand the wait..). Its popularity really took off after former President Clinton dined there in the 1990's..

i used to love the 'commish' and 'punky brewster' sadly they don't run reruns on either of those .
My earliest TV memories were of Sesame Street & the Electric Company (HEY YOU GUYS!!!). On those rare (i.e., VERY rare!!!) Saturday mornings that we didn't go in service, there was always the Bugs Bunny & Roadrunner Show. In the morning before school I remember the Great Space Coaster & Krofft Superstars.
Most of all I miss the programs my father & I would watch together (on non-meeting nights...of course). He would make a huge batch of popcorn & we would watch CHIPS, the Dukes of Hazzard, Ten-Speed & Brown Shoe, Hawaii Five-O..
Those were the days..

Morty & Merry--thank you for those kind responses. I certainly hadn't intended to distract from the main focus of this thread, the thousands of others who lost loved ones on this date (but I see now that another 9/11 thread was started today..)
Experience has taught me that it is probably best to ask for September 12th off from work if it happens to fall during the week (fortunately my supervisor is very understanding). Even now the growing lump in my throat tells me what I am in for tomorrow, but perhaps it is another way of demonstrating that I haven't forgotten him. And I know that I will not be alone--the river of tears from 9/11 ran long after the Towers came down..
I certainly could not have counted on that kind of understanding anyplace else (least of all in the 'Borg'). Thanks again.

There was a TV documentary on the attacks last night on our local CBS station, but I had to change the channel. Even after five years, it still seems so unreal...& so damn difficult to accept.
One of the worst aspects of 9/11 for me personally is that it occurred one day prior to September 12--the anniversary of my father's death. So now, for two consecutive days each year, I grieve not only the loss of those innocent lives, & the plight of those they left behind, but also the loss of the only person I am fully convinced ever truly loved me..
My heart cries for those lost on that horrible day..

Perhaps most importantly: Someone who accepts me for who I am & doesn't judge me based on what I choose to believe (or not believe..)

"Just around the corner." That phrase echoes in my mind like no other part of my sad JW legacy.
One of my earliest memories is of overhearing my parents talk with other JW parents about how wonderful it was that we wouldn't have to attend junior high or high school in this system..
