But it's so hard to be merciful to people who are doing so much evil, however inadvertently.
I just can't believe it's also 'unknowingly'.

for those who might be interested: i recently read an advance review copy of a new novel, <i>by way of water,</i> by charlotte gullick (blue hen press, 2002).
pretty good first novel, i'd say, but the most interesting thing for me was that the characters' involvement with jehovah's witnesses was a main theme for the novel, and not merely a minor plot point.. set in northern california in 1977 and told through the eyes of 7-year-old justy, the novel tells the story of the unravelling of a family because of the violence and alcoholism of the father and the alienation that the mother's involvement in jws causes.
it's also fairly accurate about the religion--only big gaffe i caught was singing from a brown songbook, when in 1977 we were all using the old mauve <i>singing and accompanying yourselves with music in your hearts.</i>.
I think there hasn't been very much because the WTS would probably threaten to sue.
To be really fair, the author should have directed people to various places to find out more. The Kingdom Hall, the WTS website and HERE! (Course we can always include that at Amazon).
Overall, was it favorable to JWs?? (I would imagine so, given the back flap comments).

And all the time and energy they could be spending BEING good Christians, they use instead to study to death every little Bible frivality anyone could ever suppose.

You need to get in touch with a Battered Women's group. They're everywhere.
She probably doesn't know they exist.
"But I Love Him" is an excellent book (written for teen-age girls but insightful for everyone) and might open her eyes to her situation and how her children are being hurt by it.

Try to get involved with others because battered women can be very frustrating. They're maddeningly 'on again', 'off again' and have ZERO insight into their situation.

what is the root of anti-catholic sentiment.
i was raised a catholic, still catholic, and have never heard a good reason why some people dislike catholicism.
I have truly found 'home' in Catholicism.
There are an amazing number of avenues of faith in the church to reach out to people, from any walk of life and at any stage in their faith.
Catholicism reaches out to us in every human way. Intellectually and sensually and it deeply touches our hearts and our love for our fellow man.
Catholicism is so rich with scripture and tradition and, most importantly, is shared by people from every walk of life, and all around the world.
I've been through all that oogly-boogly, 'shivers up the spine' stuff when it comes to the beauty of Catholicism (raised a JW). Even condemning and afraid of those 'satanic' statues of Mary.
What a degrading and horrible thing JWs do to other people's faith, for which they have NO respect. And yet, Catholics would say, 'Be merciful to Jehovah's Witnesses'.
It is an extremely challenging faith, in the best possible ways.
Very, very hard for an exjw to 'allow' even a curiousity of this faith. But if you ever come around to it, it's really 'growing up' in your Christian faith.
To me, it is very much the essence of Christianity.

i grew up in the 'truth'.
about 4 years ago my parents divorced.
God is always near and He hears you wherever you are. Spend some time talking to Him about your situation and your feelings and thoughts.
It seems rough and confusing now, but eventually, you will work your way through this and find what you need.
If you look, you will see that JWs worship and trust the Watchtower Society and the Governing Body, a group of ordinary men (tho they wouldn't say that) in Brooklyn, New York. And not God.
God is not amused. God is not deceived.
But God is not hiding, either.
'Seek and ye shall find. Knock and it shall be opened.'
this has been a most dreadful 2 weeks for me.
my mother, a faithful jw, finally died after a long illness.i had been by her side all the way., my brother& wife , the jw ,rarely made an apperance-but showed up at last minute to make sure he got her jewelry.
he rarely showed up because i am not active so not considered good association.also he had no close feelings for her.
You may find a place to grieve in the Catholic church. This month, October, they have a special mass for those who have died (anytime). And all who are grieving, or remembering or celebrating the memory of someone (and anyone who is interested) can come, and be together. It is unspeakably beautiful. And makes me very, very weepy. It is quite something for an exjw to attend. Having been around to bury people so coldly.
I so believe we all go 'somewhere' after death.
In Mexico, they have 'the Day of the Dead' at this time. And it is quite a tradition for all the family to come out to the cemetary with candles and a picnic. They actually stay at the cemetary through the entire nite. All the families, together, they fill all the gravesites. I've never seen it in person, but I find it to be a beautiful faith tradition.
I'll be thinking of you this year.
