NEW LIGHT! Earthquakes-3-22-02 Awake!
by messenger inwell we now have another ray of new light that has flashed forth.
it is a new teaching regarding earthquakes.
for close to eighty-five years now the core believe of jehovahs witnesses has been the last days teaching that earthquakes have increased in intensity and frequency since 1914. no longer, now it seems it has gone the way of the generation that would not die who were alive in 1914. now we have the great new discovery that there were not more or stronger earthquakes since 1914, almost 40 years after experts and many good men were disfellowshipped for saying otherwise.

On the back cover of the January, 2002 edition of this book appears this brief description:
William J. Schnell was a young man eager to serve God. To him, the Watchtower Society appeared harmless, even valuable as a way to develop his faith and pass it on to others. Yet it soon became obvious that the Jehovahís Witness religion he had joined was anything but innocent. 30 Years a Watchtower Slave is Schnellís gripping account of the three decades he spent enslaved by Jehovahís Witness doctrines and methods. As you read his potent personal story, you will understand the true inner workings of the cult that enticed Schnell in the 1920s and continues to lure countless individuals today. Through the details of Schnellís involvement with the Watchtower Society and the riveting story of how he finally became free, you will be forewarned to their effective proselytizing campaign and better outfitted to witness to JW friends, relatives, neighbors, coworkersóand the stranger at your door.
The author of this book believes that the WTS had a master plan of evil and world dominance. His eyewitness accounts are very interesting, and at least half of them sound like they are true. Many, many experiences are portrayed in very bitter tones, making me question the validity of some of his complaints. On page 92 of this edition, Schnell refutes the Watchtower Society's interpretation of Revelation 13 (from the pamplet The Fall of Babylon) but then proceeds to offer his own interpretation of this chapter in the next paragraph - explaining that it is actually foretelling the "evil" WTS. I found this to be the low point of the book and almost unreadable. His version of the preaching work is also similarly unbelievable. Here is his 7 step proselytizing system:
1. buy out their time for the watchtower by selling books
2. visit all book purchasers in back calls
3. arrange for a home book study
4. lead their victims ito an area study for brainwashing and indoctrination
5. bring them to the watchtower study on sundays to learn to feed on Watchtower provided "food in due season" or Organization provender instead of the bible
6. inveigle them to become kingdom publishers and to attend the service meetings
7. climax the entire procedure by persuading the victims to become baptized and initiated into the TheocracyMost of these statements are true, but as a JW we never discussed our "brainwashing technique". Once again, to buy into approx. 50% of Schnell's theories and writings, you must believe that the WTS formed an evil plan for world dominance after Russell's death. I'd only recommend this book to someone who has already read Franz's books and sort of knows where they are going w/ the JW religion. Most active JW's would laugh at this book, certainly not the same affect as Franz's books would have. XJW's and people on their way out may enjoy this book. I certainly don't regret buying it or reading it, if only for some of the eyewitness accounts.

What was the JW breaking point 4 U?
by ashitaka inwe have a thread that asks why we became jw's, so i became curious as to why some of us have left.
what was the last straw for you?.
mine was the treatment of my wife.

treating women like a 2nd class citizen....my wife and I felt sick everytime somebody joked around on the stage about women cooking, cleaning, whatever. I am not the head of my wife. I don't care if that is in the bible or not. We are equal partners.
We got tired of hearing how great the JW's are at every meeting. Seemed liked the Nazis to me.
All of the doctrinal issues (1914, 144,000 in heaven....i could go on and on)
All of the back stabbing and slander of people. I certainly don't see any love among the JW's. Yeah, there are alot of good people in there. But in general, I don't think you can say they have "love amongst themselves"
I don't know, there is probably way more than I've typed. But I think those are the essentials.

Re: Survey for US people: America is the best?
by fodeja infor every person, there seem to be things they just don't understand.
for me, it's nationalism in more than homeopathic doses.
i wouldn't have expected to meet that much nationalism on an ex-jw board, but then, life holds many surprises.

I've only been to:
Toronto, Montreal, Quebec City, Vancouver, rural parts of Ontario and Quebec and all over the north and south islands of New Zealand. I loved certain aspects of Canada and New Zealand, but I feel at home in the USA. I don't think that means that its better, its just what I'm used to.

Dropping off incriminating info to Kingdom Hall?
by stocwach ini am still fairly new to this site (was raised a jw from 4 til i just stopped going to meetings and moved out of the parents' house @ 17 in 1985).. fortunately i have a good relationship with my parents (i am an only child, which probably helps, not to mention the fact that they continually can't wait to see their grandchildren --3yr old boy and 7 mth old girl) even though they still diligently are full fledged dubs (my dad was an elder for many years before stepping down due to the extremely heavy load of preparing for talks, elders meetings etc, due to time it was taking away from our family).. after reviewing the numerous sites on the web and learning the truth and hypocrisy surrounding the watchtower, there are so many issues that i want to raise with the folks yet haven't mustered up the courage to do so, but that's another topic.. my question for you all is this: what do you think about the idea of anonymously dropping off incriminating documentation at the front door of the kh?
imo there are so many down in the ranks have no clue the stuff about the un, silentlambs info, etc.
someone would be bound to see this stuff, and it could cause a domino effect if received in the right wavering hands (of course the opposite i know could occur with a devout jw who immediately sees it as apostate and discards it down the toitet).. love to hear your thoughts!

I mailed some stuff about the blood issue to my kingdom hall about 2 or 3 years ago, but I have no idea what they did with the information.
