  this really baffles me. They did the NWT in the late 50's, early 60's yet provide a document from 1978 as proof as to why they inserted "jehovah" into the greek text. amazing. here's a paragraph from the november 15th, 2001 watchtower on page 8 in the article "the new world translation appreciated by millions worldwide" that shows just how sneaky they are about this:

  Another outstanding feature of the New World Translation is its use of God's personal name, Jehovah, in both the Hebrew and the Greek portions of the Scriptures. Since the Hebrew name for God appears nearly 7,000 times in the so called Old Testament alone, it is clear that our Creator wants his worshipers to use his name and to know him as a person. (Exodus 34:6,7) The New World Translation has helped millions of people to do so.

  a sick, twisted paragraph. so sneaky. it is apparent that they KNOW they are wrong about inserting God's name into the new testament. They just need to do it to support JW doctrine.

  JWs: Hedging Their Bets?

  this is directed at long-time jws.

  it's quite apparent to me as an observer of the movement for more than 50 years, that jws are nowhere near as obsessed with the imminence of armageddon as they once were.

  when i was young, i would notice attractive young jw girls would wear ``aaa' (``available after armageddon'') badges at assemblies.

  i'd agree with those statements. my "lukewarm" friends in my present congregation go to university, see R rated movies, buy houses, hope to get married, drink alot.....but get really freaked out if i try to show them information that goes against WTS theology. Very frustrating.

  Dubs can see lord of rings,not harry potter

  interesting how the witnesess once again show a double set of standards with the watching of these two movies.

  harry potter is a definate no no, but watching lord of the rings is ok.. both movies have wizards.

  anyone noticed this?

  harry potter BAD
  LOTR GOOD

  although there is a couple going around telling everyone how demonic LOTR is.

  Harry Potter vs. The Wizard of Oz

  perhaps some here would like to expound on why it is ok for witness kids to watch the classic film "wizard of oz" but harry potter is out?.

  aren't the two the same thing?

  a fantasy about another realm?

  i'm not sure if you are a fan of The Flaming Lips, but the singer, Wayne Coyne is a HUGE fan of The Wizard of Oz, and everytime i've seen them live he's done a stunning rendition of "somewhere over the rainbow"

  most people in my area think the wizard of oz is demonic, harry potter is demonic, but the lord of the rings is OK. Although there is a couple going around on an ANIT-LOTR campaign right now.

  if so, what was your main purpose in getting married to this person?

  My wife and I got married young and we will be celebrating our 3 year anniversary in March. We dated for almost 3 years (despite many many people telling us that this was a bad thing). I think we know each other very well and it always amazes me that we are considered the exception, not the rule when we go to gatherings. Most couples our age can't wait to get away from their mate and hang out w/ their friends. My wife and I always do everything TOGETHER, holding hands, talking.

  DIM's sister gets busted!

  it seems my mom was snooping around my sisters room and happened to come across her diary.

  my sister is 14 years old and unbaptized.

  it seems my mom was snooping around my sisters room and happened to come across her diary. My sister is 14 years old and unbaptized. My mom decided to read this diary. In it, my sister described trying pot and trying smoking....instead of handling this within the family (overlooking that fact that this was a gross invasion of privacy) my parents dragged her before a committee. Apparently (according to my mom) the one elder was screaming at my sister "if you were baptized we'd disfellowship you!" and all sorts of stuff. My dad was sitting there and approved of this. It also seems that my sister wrote in her diary "my brother ____ isn't in "the truth" anymore. He doesn't believe any of it - I can tell" This caused great distress to my mom and she called my apt. all frantic and stuff. I just blew her off. The two things that are driving me nuts are: (1) the emotional damage that is going to happen to my sister and (2) the fact that this happened to me 9 years ago in October, 1992. Why should a 14 year old girl be dragged before the elders? Why does the WTS claim that illegal drugs invite demons in, but other, stronger and legal drugs do not? Trying pot 3 times doesn't make my sister a criminal. I really really am getting angrier every day.

  well, i'm moving away across the country in 2 months and my mother wants to spend some time with me.

  being a pioneer, her idea of spending time with her oldest son is working out in service for a morning....i've decided to go along with her tomorrow morning because i really couldn't think of a good excuse, since i'm presently laid off from my job and collecting $$ from the state of pa. i haven't been out since about march and am not looking forward to this at all.

  hopefully i won't have to talk or say much.

  just got back from service....not one person at home....only did about 10 houses anyway, then we stopped for snacks and went home. blah, what a waste of a morning. Never again!

  Business Territory

  business territory in the 1960s and 1970s: when i was first associated in the late 1960s, it was common to see jws roaming the streets of downtown districts, offering the magazines.

  sometime in the early 1970s, after i had been a jw for a few years, we worked businesses directly.

  this was especially true when certain events were newsworthy - such as the persecution of jehovah's witnesses in malawi.

  they have parts encouraging street work about once every two months or so at the thursday night sales meeting. Last time I was in NYC I encountered at least a half a dozen "wooden indians" just standing on a street corner.....did they really think anybody would come up to them and beg for a "bible study" or something? pathetic.
