Typical JW Response
by Magwitch inmy 76 year old mother and her 94 year old mother (my grandmother) are still regular pioneering.
if anyone should understand helping the less fortunate it should be these life time pioneers.
however, this is a conversation i had with my them yesterday.... me: mom, the girls (my 2 teenage daughters) and i have volunteered to serve breakfast and lunch at the soup kitchen new year's eve.

You should have reminded them of Jesus feeding the poor!

What if there was "new light" that the 144,000 was symbolic?
by Sour Grapes ini really think that if the watchtower had an article.
that had the new light that the 144,000 was a symbolic.
number that the majority of jw's would accept this.

The JW's worship the GB and no matter what the changes might be they will suck it up as coming from Jehovah.
They are brain dead as all of us were while we were in !

Is Bethel the WTS equivalent of "wordly" military service?
by sinis init would seem that they both go hand in hand.
you devote your life to bethel, move up in the ranks, are considered more respected with time served, go, and do whatever you are told - even at times putting your life in jeopardy, etc.. .

You get a pension with the military which enables you to have a dignified life in your older years.

Then What?
by tjlibre inafter knowing what i now know about the wt and the gb.
now that i can see the real spirit behind this organization, now that i have convinced my self that i dont need this religion or any other organized group to have a personal relationship with god and his son... i wonder, whats next?
should i stay as part of the conscious class, a less committed jw for the sake of my marriage and emotional stability?

Once you know the "truth about the truth" there is no way you're going to stick around another 50 years.
That's a long time, you're going to lose your mind sitting at the KH listening to lies and having to fake your faith.
I lasted 2 years and then hell broke loose.
Consequences: lost my marriage of 26 years and a daughter that will not speak to me anymore!
Blessings: not living in fantasy land anymore!

Faded 10 years ago, now considering DA'ing!
by NutFlush inlong-time occasional lurker, first-time poster.
cliffs notes version: i'm thinking of da'ing in order to shake my family up a bit, even though i haven't been involved with jws in more than 10 years.
longer version: i was raised as a jw but never got baptized.

You live on the West coast, they live East, it's been ten years and i think very few remember you in the congregation.
Most likely they would not make an announcement since you are not baptized and not a threat to anyone.
Enjoy the communication with your parents and sister and you might have a better chance to help them out
in the future.

Service groups on Christmas Day.......Can't they leave people alone for one day?
by RULES & REGULATIONS inmy wife took our dog for a walk this morning around 9:30 a.m. and saw a ''service group'' leaving my uncle's house this morning.
she said there were about 8 people getting in 2 cars.
she asked me, ''why would they go out today when people are celebrating christmas''?

Did not mind going in service all year long but i hated going out on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1.
Always felt people should be left alone with their families to enjoy these holidays and not argue
about the bible.

The numbers will always go up because of young ones getting baptized. They have no choice but to do so under pressure
from parents and congregation and most do believe at such young age. As they get old they do not stay in.
You go to any convention and you will see most of those getting baptized are not from the field!
