Could You Live Without God?
by serotonin_wraith ini have said before in past posts - i think a belief in a god is because of two bad reasons.. 1. ignorance (not always deliberate at all) of certain facts.
the universe and life on earth was not designed.. 2. wanting to believe in a god.. so, to focus on the second, i can see why people would want there to be a god.. you see dead loved ones again, you live forever, you have a purpose set out for you, you feel there's always a being with you through even your most difficult times.
for those who believe in a god, could you live without one?

Well I live very nicely without god, but I also wish that there was one.....
What normal person would choose not to have a real personal relationship with the creator of the universe?
Answer: Nobody. It's just that whoever started this thing we call life is not around here anymore, and even if he was here, he wouldn't hear your prayers and know your innermost thoughts, and certainly wouldn't care to be worshipped.
Just my two cents. Gymbob

Things You HATED About Being a JW
by minimus inthere were a few things that i hated about being a witness.. i love music and live concerts.
quite often i'd have to play my music privately or hide an album cover for fear it might "stumble" someone.
i hated worrying whether someone was going to somehow get "stumbled.. regarding going to concerts, it seemed that certain artists only came to town on a meeting night and i'd miss the shows.. what did you hate about being a jehovah's witness?.

I hated not being able to play sports in school. I was pretty good, and sometimes I wonder how good....
I hated public speaking, but, "That's what you need to do in order to progress in the organization".
I hated having to go uninvited to the home of a complete stranger, and stand on his porch and try to get him to change his own personal beliefs.
I hated being a kid and thinking that some day I might have to be in prison because I didn't join the military.
I hated not being able to let my non-JW grandparents have a normal birthday party, Christmas, Easter, Halloween, etc with their grandkids.
I hated not being normal. Gymbob

What if regular meeting attendance wasn't a requirement?
by R.F. inwe all know how regular meeting attendance is the ultimate way of measuring the "faith" of those among the religion, other than field service reports.
what do you think would happen with the attendance numbers if you were only encouraged to go as a sort of option, if you weren't hounded for not attending regularly?

Maddie is spot on.....
Regular meeting attendance is part of the indoctrination part of the cult.
When you start missing the meetings you start "sobering up" and see clearer how much BS is taught at the hall.

Alarming statement in today's study article in WT...
by Mickey mouse inparagraph 15: "as we get nearer to the outbreak of the great tribulation, we may well receive some detailed instructions.
our safe journey through those troublesome days will depend on our keeping in step with other loyal servants of jehovah.
" this in the context of a wt discussing the israelites' exodus from egypt and how jehovah had them into a position where there seemed "no way out".

You know.....How can a person enjoy going to a place each week where they are repeatedly told crap like this?
I don't go to church since I left the borg, but I have spoken to a lot of people who love going to church every Sunday because it just makes them feel good.
What's strange about the witnesses is, I never once felt that way about going to the kingdom hall.....I always dreaded going, and stuff like this is why! Gymbob

JUST FINISHED talking to my dad, & wow, what a door knob he is.
by Pioneer Spit...oh, i mean Spirit insorry to put it that harshly.
i posted previously that i wrote my parents a heart-felt letter, an after-months-of-fighting-letter, my dad responded, i wrote back 2 times and he didn't respond for 2 and a half weeks.
so yesterday, i called him to ask if he got my last two emails and he was short with me and nervous and wierd, i don't know why i expected different.. today he called back to say how sorry he was for being short and nervous and wierd, that he was up all night because he was rude and he knew it, his words.
