p.s. You might want to ask them about that the next time they come to your door.....

I tell people the truth.....My parents are Jehovah's Witnesses and they don't have anything to do with me anymore, or my children, or their great-grandchildren since we left the religion a few years back. JW's shun people for religious reasons.

Is there anything wrong with listening to anything the jw's say????s
by Lotus65 ini was reading some of the articles my mom brought home and gave to me and i was wondering do the jw's have any good ideas on a good way to live your life.
i mean do they know anything about how to live and what to do when you have problems.
i was wondering because i want to know if i can follow any of the info in questions young people ask book or are they wrong and every aspect and should i just never read it again.

Outlaw has it right with the example of the bucket of sh*t.....Another example: "Even a blind pig finds a ear of corn once in a while". Dubs get it right every once in a while too.
I'm sure even Hitler had a few good days! but what was his overall motives? Rule the world, any way possible.
So what are JW's overall motives? Get you saved? Get you to come to the meetings? Accept Jesus? Nope. they want you to become one of them and get you out there and recruit more. 999 out of 1,000 elders will not approve you're baptism if you're not going in service. If you don't do that, you won't be accepted as one of them. GYMBOB

ALERT: All Child Abuse Lawsuits have been settled. Millions cashed out???
by What-A-Coincidence inre: http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/8/116108/1.ashx.
a bethel insider in the know told me that all of the child abuse lawsuits where the watchtower bible and tract society was one of the defendants were settled back in the beginning of this year.
i questioned it and called napa myself and they were absolutely settled back then.

Is a rapid graceful exit possible?
by besty inwe will find out soon.
as a brief update my wife sweet pea and i have 'announced' to a few friends and close family - less than 10 altogether - that we are no longer going to meetings.
some friends have probed for details, others don't want to know.

To answer your question...no. You can try, but they don't have a category for that.
Sorry Greedawn, but 99 times out of 100 not going to meetings and service = a visit from the loving elders. And you can sugar-coat it all you want and say it as nice as you can, but in the end, if you don't want to be a witness anymore, you're name's going to get announced. Gymbob

What did you think of "new light"?
by reneeisorym inyou kind of get to a point where you know all the answers when you are a jw.
you don't really have to research much more because its the same stuff they present over and over again.
"jehovah's reminders" but i kind of looked forward to new light.

I always liked this illustration....
Suppose one day you were looking through murky water in a pond and see what you believe is a fish, but you can't tell what kind of fish because of the murky water. Then when the water gets clearer you can see that what you thought was a fish is actually a old boot. Truth is, it was never a fish, you were wrong from the beginning.
When "new light" makes something brighter, or clearer, and you find out that what you once believed was completely wrong, you can't try to tweak it to make it into something it never was. Gymbob

Name Things Witnesses Make Big Deals Over
by minimus inhave you ever seen a witness get absolutely giddy over placing a measly tract with a neighbor and get up on the platform and tell the "experience" of how the neighbor actually said that he'd read it!
big deal!!!.
in our hall, they loved to applaud over the dumbest things!

School sports.
I've been working with school sports programs for the better part of 20 years now, and I still don't see how any reasonable person can justify (from the bible) why kids shouldn't play sports in school.
When my daughter hit high school, she wanted to play volleyball after school. When I said, "great", the local elders acted like I let her join the military or something. The things they would say..."What about all the drugs? What about all the meetings and service she'll miss out on? Why be with people who don't worship the way we do?" Idiots! GYMBB

They are stalking me,,
by gabriella ini recently moved back to my home town after being away for several years and doing the "fade".
i have family still in, so people heard that i was back in town.
i got six invitations to the memorial and a couple of phone calls about the special talk.

Most of the time it just comes down to the type of elders you're dealing with...
I tried to fade and they were not going to let that happen. I tried to not talk about it, change the subject, etc. these guys were real "buckaroos". When they formed a JC, they told me if I don't show up they would DF me. And there you go.
Sometimes they just don't let you walk away.
Any witnesses reading this....What does that tell you about your religion?

Any Oldtimers from Bethel in the 1960s??
by Gretchen956 inanyone old enough to have been in bethel during the 60s and early 70s?
in my family i have an uncle that was there then, we were always told he was higher up, but that could have been that he was a supervisor or almost anything, who knows.
at any rate, when i was younger he went "apostate," and left bethel and the witnesses in some splashy manner.
