Guess who's coming over Monday night!!
by kerj2leev inelders stopped by yesterday they want to come over monday and talk to me.
i have been df'ed about a year now, they said my dad was wondering why no one was stoppping by to see me.
it was really hard cause i grew up with these guys and i know they are good guys.

That would be very hard for me as well.
Whenever I see my sister who is still an active jw and married to a new elder it messes with my head. Those wierd thoughts come back and you start to question who is really right.
I feel pretty confident that they are wrong and that what you said about saving your son from the emotional turmoil is dead on!
As hard as it is, I think the best thing to do is to not let them in. What good could come from it? It will just make you go over all that mess again in your head at night as you try to sleep.
Good luck Monday!

I just looked for a new Bible.
I was trying to figure out which one to get. In my search I could find NOTHING good about the new world translation. I found that VERY interesting and I was actually 'surprised' to find that out.
I have a New American Standard Life Application Study Bible and I LOVE IT!
Have you guys read the Message Bible?!!! That is a lot of fun to read! It ALWAYS cracks me up!
I have the NASB, Message, NIV, and the KJV. Still have my nwt to see how they screwed it up and how to combat the old jw teaching.

Hangman's Noose
by Outaservice inyou men, now that you're out of the witnesses do you still find yourself wearing neckties?
are you keeping them?
how about suits, do you ever wear them anywhere?.
-
esw1966
I NEVER wear my suits any more! I still have them with all those ties, but I have no use for them any more!
I love going to church in jeans and seeing the pastor wearing them on the stage! Yet now I find myself wearing slacks to church. Getting that old feeling to dress appropriately.

Life beyond JW -- A Worldly Wife asks......
by Worldlywife inoutside, looking in.... most, if not all of you, have chosen to leave the jw religion.
many have simply stopped attending meetings or 'walked away'.
although i have limited knowledge of the religion, i have come to understand and appreciate the reasons why folks have left and why their departure was done without formal notification of such; e.g.

I think it is a slow process.
It took me 6 months after being disfellowshipped to begin even questioning my beliefs. Once I began to see that my beliefs were wrong, I started taking all sorts of information from books and podcasts that were relevant to my questions. I have SO many religious books purchased and library. I have a voracious appetite to get my thinking re-learned.
Then I starting looking for 'the other' true religion. I talked to pastors of several churches. Then I found a religious teaching that I could believe in. Jesus himself and grace.
Since then I have been pushing myself to do things such as holidays. At the moment, I don't have much of a desire for them. I'm reading a book on Christmas now trying to 'get' the Christmas spirit. I can now wish people a Happy Birthday, but I find it impossible to sing Happy Birthday. I think holidays will take a while for me.
There are times when the old thinking comes back. I remind myself that those were my old improper ideas and that I need to be open and listen and decide things for myself.
Currently, I am the happiest I have ever been in my life! I am still a very religious person. I just have a new direction. I think jw thinking will always affect me to some extent, but as time goes on it should be less and less.
(I became a jw at the age of 9 when my parents accepted 'the truth' in 1975. I left it a year ago after being df'd and my wife divorcing me. So, I have 30 years of de-programming to do. The process has been difficult at first, but SO worth it after the first hurdle!)
