Isn't that the truth. There are a few advantages to living in this socialist paradise.
--Justice-One
Well, I haven't lived in other states so I'll take your word for describing Cali as a "socialist paradise"...
I will say this though, there is a young sister who openly talked of going to UC Berkeley. I hope it's still her goal and she isn't sucked into "pioneering out of High School."

Your Funniest House-to-House Presentations
by Good Girl or Bad Girl? inso when my brother was a wee little lad, my mother was helping him prepare his first presentation.
it involved a paradise tract, i'm sure.. anyway, so my brother, probably about 5 or 6 years old, stands at his first door and makes his little presentation.
except he kind of forgot what he was going to say and kind of made it up on the spot, because what he ended up saying was, "if you'd like to live forever you can have this tract.

See, that's what I'm talkin' about! That's great SirNose, I never had the guts to say anything like that! --Good Girl or Bad Girl?
We just had to make sure nobody else was around. It was a pretty fun day out in service though! -

Toilet paper
by whatlite? instill laughing about this one.
last year at the dc, the brother during the announcements asked the sisters to us the bathroom facilities faster because someone else is waiting to use it and please limit your use of toilet paper.. never though i would see the day when they would tell you how to pee!
where does it end?

This convention was the first one where finding a men's room wasn't too easy. Two out of three bathrooms were for the sisters, as they just converted every other men's room. There were still long lines though...
I remember taking a tour of the Stanley Theatre. I distinctly remember the women's bathroom because it was HUGE! Definitely a big hit with the sisters, who applauded it on the spot. -

One time I went out with a good friend of mine and we were just really in a flippant mood. I'd start off by saying, "Hi, I'm Batman and this is Robin," or "Hi, my name is Bert and this is Ernie."
It broke the ice and got a few chuckles out of the householder. Not like we placed anything, though...of course that wasn't our goal anyway. -

They'll give the old folks a spot in the shade at the conventions, but when they've finished giving decades of service? Out like yesterday's garbage. :(

Arson damages Jehovahs Witnesses building
by Beep,Beep inhttp://www.dispatch.com/news-story.php?story=dispatch/2006/06/26/20060626-b6-03.html arson damages jehovahs witnesses building blaze set in basement of worship hall monday, june 26, 2006 theodore decker the columbus dispatch
the fire that damaged a kingdom hall of jehovahs witnesses building in clinton township early yesterday was deliberately set, investigators say.
federal and local authorities are now searching for the arsonist or arsonists who broke into the hall at 4151 n. hickman rd., about a half-mile south of morse road.

I wonder if the arsonists were after records? A few years ago, our hall got broken into and a large amount of cards went missing.
I agree with jgnat, though. Torching KHs will just strengthen the congregation goers. I want to see the KHs shut down too...just through neglect and lack of support. -

"It's easy for a 12-year-old to say, "we tell our bosses we need the day off or we'll quit." Like they know what the real world of jobs really is...plus if this story is even remotely true, and this little 12-year-old dubbie was born into the "truth," then she is especially out of tune with reality.
I know because I once was a very naive little dubby girl myself."
--Good Girl or Bad Girl?
Ugh. Reminds me of some extremely sheltered kids I know. I hope that they remain sheltered for the rest of their days...because contact with "worldly" people or anything else that will shatter their bubble will mess them up for good. -

I miss the "free" food.
by Justice-One infree food.
it used to make the conventions almost bearable.
i rememeber telling the wife and kids to not put anything in any contribution box, because as the head of the family, i had taken care of it.

"I wrote a letter to the Society, some time before I quit. Then as a serving elder I respectfully reminded them that Assemblies were all about the experience of being there and having a part , rather than sitting and listening. I got a patronizing reply.
When the dubs I know get together , they say exactly the same as we do..."

The experience...yes, the experience used to be great. Now it's just a matter of beating the heat. San Diego's is still outside, so you have to have a plan for the sun or you will get burnt. All the shady seats are gone within 10 minutes of opening, literally. If you go into the shady, padded seat area, there is really not more than 2 seats' worth of open seating, should you come in around 8:30. You've already been beaten by the folks who line up at 6:30 in the morning.
That leaves the majority of people to deal with the sun. Then at lunch you can't leave, and there seemed to be more people holding signs that said "KEEP MOVING" and "QUIET PLEASE" than last year. It's a constant message...pay attention, stop wandering around, keep moving, look happy. Even in the dramas they chastise people who can't get the day off. Well, sorry! Some people have this crazy idea about keeping their job! -

Re-Zoning for new KH - Neighbour resistence - Priceless
by Uzzah ini stumbled across this while searching on a totally different topic.. read through the transcript of the town council meeting.
the questions asked and the dorkiness of the 'brothers' testifying is hilarious.
someone should create this as a template for anyone wanting to resist kingdumb halls being built in their communities.

Yeah! Go Canadians! I just loved the whole exchange...
"So, will it generate taxes?"
"Nope."
"So, have you excercised your rights as citizens?"
"Well, no...."
"Ok, can we use the hall for charitable purposes?"
"Not a chance."
"Wow...do you even live here?"
"Sort of. But don't worry, our members pay taxes!"
"Yeah, ok...whatever. Request denied." -

Sad really, that dubs imagine college to be Animal House X 10. And funny too, that separation from the church is "always" going to result in destruction of faith. I guess that brainwashing wears off with a dose of reality?
If any dub kids want to go to college, down in Liberal Dubland (aka California) we can go to college.
