JWs thinking 'Satan is out to get me!'
by KingAgag ini met a jw who said he hated driving to the kh because satan always changed the traffic lights to red so that he'd be late.
this is so absurd, showing how paranoid some of them are.
what similar, equally retarded, reasoning have you come across?

Sicknesses which took the attendance noticeably lower being blamed on "Satan trying to persecute us," when really the answer was all the sick people who were guilted into coming to the meetings where they spread their germs!

Which is the bigger lie?
by JimmyPage intelling your kids there is a santa claus... or telling them they will never grow old and die?
i know which one i find more hurtful..

All kids eventually find out that Santa Claus isn't real. Millions of adults will die believing the other lie is real.

"It's a perfect organization filled with imperfect men."
"Maybe in the new system ______." (fill in the blank with a hobby or activity that the JW would like to do but is currently forbidden)
"_______ is bad association."
"Reading the magazines is equivalent to a college education."

I don't remember-two sisters- they are all drones anyway.
My parents went to talk to them. It was probably the only conversation they had all day but they probably counted 8 hours. I looked at my daughter and said "Could you imagine wasting a day just sitting there? That's why you are going to college".
Good message for your daughter. I was just curious if you remembered one of them--she may have been from my old hall and usually gets in a ton of time from the airport because she'd rather not walk at all.

A JW--Mormon Alliance? WT and LDS Merger?
by cameo-d infirst, there is a disclaimer on the webiste that it is not an "official" lds website.
however, what appears to be promoted is mormon based.. .
why would a mormon based website title itself "upon the watchtower"?.

I could see them working together on some international project, but never joining forces.
Unlike the JW's who claim they are not inspired, the LDS President of Church Prophet talks to JC and he talks back on a regular basis. The LDS don't need the JW's, they are loaded with money and are still growing as a church.
Quite right. The Mormons know that allowing families to grow large, and allowing husbands to be major breadwinners without shame, means that they can have larger and larger tithes.
Even though the theology is loonier than Looney Tunes, they know what encourages fidelity and steady growth.

Ha!
I just came back from San Diego. The JW's had a table set up at the airport there. They were just waiting for people to approach them.
What a waste of Freakin' time! (losers!)
I wonder if you remembered who you saw there? There is a small possibility that I might know them.
Those airport hours were very easy...though I remember nearly falling asleep every time I sat in those little uncomfortable chairs.

Jephthah's Daughter
by cantleave ini have read somewhere that jephthah's daughter did not really go into temple service but was a victim of ritual sacrifice.
the bible says that after weeping over her virginity that the maidens would visit her annually.
how could they visit her if she was killed?.

Without being able to comment on the Hebrew used, here's why that story never made sense: the fact that anybody should have to be sacrificed to YHWH, who apparently doesn't like that sort of thing, swayed me towards the Borg's conclusion. But then some things didn't add up--why did he bewail the fact that his daughter came out? If he'd intended to send her to become a celibate priestess, why would he be in so much grief? Wouldn't disappointment over lack of heirs be a better emotion? And wouldn't it be better to say that you give "a servant" instead of "a burnt offering" to YHWH, if that's what he really did?
Also, the translations were so inconsistent. You've got the Not Well Translated's PC version of events, where the girls "give commendation" to Jepthah's daughter year after year. And then you have some Bibles that claim the women went to lament over the fate of Jepthah's daughter every year. I like the NRSV, and that one says they "lament" Jepthah's daughter. I'm sorry, but if she's a priestess, don't you think they should be happy for her by now, and get over it? But a sacrificed virgin, on the other hand....that's a real tragedy.
Especially if she were hot.

Look, they're playing an endgame and they know it. I honestly believe the Walkill (or wherever it is they're headed) project will be COMPOUNDS. Seriously. The "residential towers" (expensive compounds) may not have gone up in DUMBO but I doubt they scrapped the idea altogether. Why else would they go ahead with such a move unless they were planning on wrapping things up?
Something tells me they want to stick around for a long, long time...and moving upstate will take a lot of the heat off of them.
