Most pathetic Special Needs Talk
by RebeccaChi inremember all the stupid special needs talks?
i remember one that was about a kid picking up a $5 bill outside of the kingdom hall.
he looked around to see if anyone around him lost it, and when no one did, he decided to keep it.
-

I remember one that was about the need to listen to special needs talks, because apparently people weren't listening to them. Couldn't they have gotten people to pay attention to special needs talks without saying so during a special needs talk?

That hasn't been my experience. I have never gotten anything but praise from other Blacks about getting an education. Who are you hanging around with?
Then you're hanging around blacks who are above petty criticisms, unlike the ones who were around ColdRedRain. That's good to hear. I haven't gotten that exact message spoken to me, but I read about stuff like that in Losing the Race: Self-Sabotage in Black America. I could relate only because I've witnessed black and Mexican kids being accused of "acting white" because they spoke proper English and they didn't become involved in the same stereotypical pursuits that their companions did.
When you hang around people who have no ambition, you're likely to hear things of that nature. In the black community, you could be labeled as "acting white" for going to college and trying to make a living off of something other than music or sports. In another setting, it might be "You think you're too good for us?" or "You think you're better than us?"
The core insult is the same, just differently delivered: "You're smarter, and you're doing something with your life. We do not approve."

There is something severely wrong with your saying you came to a realization that "there's a way out of dubs".
Wow, are you really that trapped?
Once upon a time, I felt trapped, too. When your world is nothing but JW concerns, you develop a strong tunnel vision.

Uh oh! More bad PR. If they didn't hype themselves up to be the greatest people on the planet, they wouldn't have this kind of attention.

Handbill for 2010 District Conventions
by dozy inthe wts has announced the usual handbill invitation "campaign" for the conventions this year.
i haven't seen a copy but i assume that it will be similar to the one for congregation meetings and from previous years.
the usual 30 per publisher allocation.. i seriously wonder about the efficacy of these campaigns.

The handbill invitation is not a serious attempt to get people to come to the convention. But what's new there? It seems only fitting from an organization that has given us:
"Public talks" which the public rarely attend.
"The Lord's Evening Meal" where virtually no one eats.
"The Theocratic Ministry School" that bears little relation to actual ministry.
"Bible Studies" where the Bible hardly gets a look in.
"The Watchtower Study" where study into the topic beyond what's in the paragraph, and possibly a few marginal references to their own literature, is not encouraged.
An "Awake!" magazine that has no urgent message to relate beyond puff articles on "The World's Smallest Bat".
It's all pretty depressing.
Isn't it ironic? Don't you think?
Yup. The invitations are NOT meant to actually cause random people from the public to show up. Several years ago I took an invitation to the District Convention. I dressed in jeans and dress shirt. Just a normal looking guy off the street.
I was given ugly looks in the parking lot.
I was questioned by elders.
I was followed by security guards.

"Fancy Dress" and large social gatherings are banned in our Halls! Why?

Keep clampin' down, elders! Make that cult more and more of a drudgery, and you'll get very bored people. Bored people look to be entertained elsewhere. If they were smart, they'd make more of an incentive to be a dub, but they can't.

JW disrupt a funeral service (Watch and Comment)
by sacolton inhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jutihhsoou8.

I've never heard a more arrogant speech at a funeral, nor a more boorish display of manners from the JWs. I love how everyone in that funeral home will remember the JWs for being complete jerks. Clinton and the grandson said very nice things; the daughter had nothing but a lecture to give everyone.
Ugly teachings produces ugly people.
