I'm really quite suprised that she commented about her crazy past. I've not yet met any woman who would talk about undergoing a single abortion, much less a lot of abortions....(then again I don't know that many people).
Even if the woman is willing to talk about it, it's generally not an isolated, public statement. You might find it in book form.

If someone needs that "hold on" so to speak - I guess I pity them.
Many, many years ago I used to feel the same way. Now I understand that pity is not helpful, one bit. Respect is the way.
So, if I don't feel bad telling a normal guy "no thanks," then I don't feel bad telling a guy in a wheelchair, "no thanks."
It would be different if he were trying to solicit a donation to some sort of fund--unfortunately I'm still a sucker for that. It's a bit harder to resist.

Both from my grandfather...
He reported waking up to clanging sound of pots and pans dropped on the floor. When he got up to investigate, the pots and pans were mysteriously hanging up on their pegs.
As a boy, he remembered his own father being chased home in the dark by a pair of "large, red eyes" that followed him everywhere.
When my sis had a nervous breakdown, she believed the demons were attacking her through all dragon-related clothing. Some of my cool t-shirts were sacrificed as a result. I remember receiving lame shirts as compensation.

then he goes on to say that if we know of anything we must go to the elders.. well, i know of someone who wrote a letter to the boe about a brother that was fired for sexual harrassment at his job and then just quit his current job because he was "accused" again of sexual harrassment.

I don't think the elders have any procedure to handle potential problems. It may be a matter of time before this individual harms a person in the congregation, but until that time comes, their rules don't address the situation, and therefore they can't act. It's quite regrettable, but I understand why they don't do anything. At the very least, he could at least take the letter under advisement and have someone assigned to watch the guy.
The uncomfortable sisters will have to report his ickiness before anything happens.
