i do understand your plight - as i have 2 adult jw daughters shunning me aged 21 and almost 20. they married witness boys 2 years ago and it's been 1 year since i've spoke with my younger daughter, 5 months since i went to coffee with my older daughter.
i call them, but they won't return my calls.
i tell them i love them, but it's as if i don't exist.
I've been on the otherside of this. I was 15 my mother ditched my dead beat father and ran off and so she was promptly DF'D for adultery. Having been in the truth from when i was a foetus I was well and truely brainwashed and being 15 completly susceptible to what the elders instructed me to do, So I cut her off and didn't speak to her for over 10 years. Looking back I didn't miss her, i didn't think of her it was like she didn't exist. I did what the org asked of me and didn't question it, stupid me.
Now some 17 years after leaving the truth I have no relationship with my mum, I get one phone call a year and thats about it. I have tried to fix things between us but its like theres nothing there anymore the relationship has just gone. It pisses me off that I don't have her in my life any more especially when i see the kind of relationships my mates have with their mothers but I know it was my fault, that I let a f**king organisation take my mum from me.
Going slightly off topic...
I've never ever had a birthday card or anything on my birthday from my mother, even after I left the truth. A couple of years back I had to go visit my mum to deliver a computer system to her that she'd asked me to build her. It happened to be my girlfriends birthday and my mum knew about it, anyway when we got there my mum had brought her a flipping birthday cake!!! And it had candles in it!!! Worldly girlfriend gets a birthday cake and ex dub son gets sod all on his birthday.
ever hear that little nugget of wisdom?
you want to know why that's true?.
because it is darn near impossible to starve to death in the united states!!!!
I knew a family of Pioneers, the father did a few hours of window washing when he felt like it but never took home enough to support his 5 kids and as a result his family looked like a bunch of tramps. His children wore hand clothes and his wife clothes from a second hand store (Good job those worldly people that give their old clothes away believe in charity and actually do something for the poor than just give people "the truth")
They often took handouts from the brothers including myself. Although they were often praised from the platform for their "wonderful work" the general concensus was that they brought reproach upon Jehovahs name because of their dress and because Bob wouldn't work to support his family.
not content with taking your shoes and confiscating your water, now the department of homeland security is gunning for your laptops.
as the washington post reported yesterday, border patrol and customs agents can now detain laptops for a reasonable period of time to review and analyze information.
they dont need probable cause under the new policy.
Not content with taking your shoes and confiscating your water, now the Department of Homeland Security is gunning for your laptops. As the Washington Post reported yesterday, Border Patrol and Customs agents can now “detain” laptops “for a reasonable period of time” to “review and analyze information.” They don’t need probable cause under the new policy. Doesn’t matter if you’re a U.S. citizen or foreign visitor. Officials can hold the laptops indefinitely. Or hard drives, flash drives, cellphones, iPods, pagers, beepers, video and audio tapes. Ditto papers, documents, books, pamphlets, even litter.
“It’s not our intent to subject legitimate travelers to undue scrutiny, but to ensure the safety of the American public,” wrote Jayson Ahern, U.S. Customs deputy commissioner, in a recent policy paper. Arguing that border searches of laptops have already uncovered intellectual property rights violations, extremist Jihadist literature, video clips of IEDs and child pornography, he pledged the government would never disclose confidential information “without lawful authority.” The policy has been on the books for awhile, but just confirmed under pressure from civil rights and business groups worried about increasing reports of laptop confiscation.

America really is becoming a big brother state!
somebody who's become a friend is an ex catholic....pretty knowledgeable on all the mainstream christian doctrines and history etc....now into wicca beliefs....not a actual member, but in tune with the ideas....mediation, incense, being close to the earth yada yada.
not real wound up with it, not pushing it on me.....and theres no way i would ever go there.....just not my style, and think i am over any organized religion at this point.. a good friend, good person.....he cant really explain why he's into all that except it feels good....but i'm a little uncomfortable.....sad to say i think it's a holdover from the jw fear and loathing of anything remotely "demonic"......i'm a good researcher, and in 15-20 minutes on the internet i know i could dig up all the lowdown on wicca beliefs/practices/history etc.....and i know without looking it up that its all just a made-up job like so many other groups we know.....but i hold back because i'm afraid if i knew more i'd feel really uncomfortable with my friend.....i know, i know that's so lame....lol.
just wondering if any of you have any experience with the wicca thing, and what you think about all that.
Thers a few practising wiccas on here and i'm sure they'll be along shortly to add their piece.
As for the whole demon thing...
Assuming there are spirit creatures out there, we have been brought up to see things in black and white, either spirit creatures are angels or demons, either they are good or evil. Thats a very narrow minded view. The bible only mentions three types of spirit creatures seraphim, cherubim and Archangels but who's to say there aren't more, the bible doesn't mention koala bears but they exist so why shouldn't there be a whole host of other spirit creatures . Now what if these other spirit creatures aren't "good or evil" what if they're morally neutral? Open your mind a bit and start thinking outside the box
whatever happened to this long lost activity?
i can remember a time when you couldn't make it from the convention doors to your car without being approached by at least one glassy-eyed apostate holding a sign or thrusting a homemade tract under your nose.
ahhhh, those were the days...
Is picketing really effective?
When I was in we were always told to completly ignore picketers not even to look at them. I never looked at their boards or paid them any attention and no one i knew did either. They might as well have been invisable.

thought someone besides me might find this information useful.
i think it can be used to help those that are df, shunned, or just leaving the organization.. http://www.boblivingstone.com/content/recovering-rejection.
recovering from rejectionwe all get rejected at different times in our lives.
Spot on Preston!
pretty much living my entire adult life in jw land i had such a one sided biased against the world including gays...in my own family there were a number of gay members that i thought i was so above them and better than them because the bible said so...i had a cousin die of aids in the early 80's and felt no remorse at all...since my departure 4 years ago i have redirected my priorities in life to include those of not my way of life...i currently have a gay cousin about my age and see the world in a whole new light...i no longer feel superior to anyone and accept those for who they are...this has been a long and hard road back to simplicity i'm just sorry it took so long...
Apart from the Alien ones !
i was told by my former book-study conductor recently that a new 'dress code' had been handed down by the wts, because people had been 'getting too casual' with their styles of clothing.
one item he mentioed was a new rule for women prohibiting denim skirts.
and, when a woman wore a denim jacket, she was also told this was not appropriate for the kh.
CO: "So how should we lovingly handle the situation if a sister shows up for Field Service wearing denim?
Do what they used to make me do if I turned up for P.E ("Gym" for the Americans) without my kit, make her do F.S in her underwear
