Bethelites - humbler than thou!
by B_Deserter ini'm new here and don't know if this has been posted.
have you ever noticed that when a lot of young men return from bethel they have this air of superiority with them?
i've seen people almost literally worship the ground they walk on.

We had one come to our KH - he had no concept of reality, no humilty, and no mercy. And he was the fastest to reprimand me for asking for help from domestic abuse. (I was speaking against my husband apparently - is that like speaking against the GB when they are wrong, or the elders when they are molesting children?) And he was in the front lines to DF me for leaving the abusive spouse. There was no mercy in his mind at all. Sadly, the mercy he deals out will be dealt to him most likely.
His trouble was that he had come to Bethel straight out of mommy's house and had everything handed to him at Bethel. Yes, I know it is a shitty place, but basically - you show up for breakfast, lunch and dinner and it is supplied to you. Your dishes are cleared and washed for you. You turn in your clothes and they come back magically washed. The reality of dealing with taking care of yourself, dealing with a paycheck and outside life... He had no concept. No idea that we worked for a living and maybe making all five meetings with kids was a bit stressful. No idea that turning in 60 hours a month on top of raising kids and working full time might be an unreasonable expectation. No idea that leaving his pregnant wife alone in a substandard apartment all day would be hard for her. In short, he came back a real jerk.
Well, the haughtier they are, the harder they fall. Unless (like some of you on this board) you climb down willingly.

The Underbelly is exposed...........
by AK - Jeff inwhat proactive things have you done [or intend to do] to warn others about the cult you have escaped?
the unfortunate fact of life is that we tend to look only at our own personal benefits from leaving the cult if not careful.
or we give up after a failed attempt.

I try to follow the example of those who helped me out. If I am so fortunate to obtain the email of a JW, I will try to draw them out with questions and help them to a clear understanding. They have not come to my door, but if they do, we will most certainly be cordial and try to reason with them. I would like to write a letter to all the members of my former congregation and explain a few things.

Yes... I was baptized in February 1986. Been a publisher for years before and put in 90 hours a month as a rule with my mom. So I applied to reg pio the regulation 6 months after baptism and they said no, because I didn't have a car and I would be a burden on the congregation. Sure - I was 13.... But my mom pioneered too (she would not sign up though) - I think they were trying to pressure her into signing up.

Is it appropriate for a stranger to comment on a woman's bruises?
by rebel8 inif you saw a woman in public, and said woman was a complete stranger to you, would you feel it's appropriate to discuss it with her (if you're concerned she is in an abusive relationship)?
if you did, would it be appropriate to do it within earshot of others?
and if she offered you an explanation other than abuse, how would you proceed?

I bruise easily as well. My mom got turned in to the elders for child abuse when a sister worked in our doctor's office. The doctor noted on my chart that I was covered in bruises and possible investigation? The sister told the elders in our KH who called her in. Now, she spanked me some, but most of the bruises were not from her. I just couldn't remember how I got them. Then, I was covered in bruises most days with the ex. One time a sister noticed my back and commented. One time the elders (most of whom turned out later to be 'apostate') cared... All the other KHs they just looked the other way and politely said little or nothing... Funny thing, when he took me to the hospitals he managed to stay close enough that I didn't get to talk to a doctor either. I think they don't allow that anymore. So, I would not be offended if someone asked - depending on whom the someone was and how it was asked. So many women suffer silently and they should not.

I turned to a non-denominational Christian church - Allen Creek Community Church (www.ac3.org) and now am a member of Church of the Nazarene. I accepted Jesus about a year ago - quite a different experience from the JW "dedication" prayer to an organization....

by ninja inwe all know there is no mention of cats in the bible...not one....but another thing that's weird is that there is no reference to any people in the old testament taking their kids down to the beach to make sandcastles and stuff...why?
