Yeah - ex-CO would try to sell everyone this stuff - down to where you could not actually talk to him comfortably:
http://www.kleenco.com/
Then there was Xango, Mangosteen. Pioneer brother was on the phone all day during service selling this stuff and counting his time. Think he was more on the cell phone than actually at a door.
I can't think of a KH where they weren't selling something or other. Candle parties, Pampered Chef, you name it.

Stories Of Wife Abuse In The Organization!
by new boy inthere are so many.... i remember my exfather inlaw...ben regan, he was made an elder in newport r.i and that's enough to make you doubt the whole holy spirit thing right there.. i was sitting in his living room one sunday and the phone rings...some poor black sister just got the crap beat out of her and she was crying to him on the phone, she was looking for help.. ben said.
"well you must have done something really bad to make him so mad at you...i know but...what you need to do is just have another beer and forget the whole thing"....good by.. thank god must women are not putting up with this anymore, from their husbands or religions that really don't care about them.

Yes, it is alive and well. I was abused from the first week. Went to the elders and they sent a MS over to ask him if he beat me. He said no, the MS left, and..... It doesn't take much imagination to guess what happened next. I went through 12 years of being told that I shouldn't make him mad, I didn't respect him enough not to complain, to be a good submissive wife and then he wouldn't get mad at me. They watched me go from a respectable slender weight to under 80 pounds - I looked like one of the Ethiopian stick people. The DO, Don Amy, came and sat on my couch and did the same thing as the MS and then had the face to wonder why I didn't show at the next meeting (too bruised and couldn't climb the stairs). My reward for finally leaving? DF'd and slandered. And they still stand behind him, even after professional assessments have revealed what he really is. I was not the only sister in the KH who was beaten either. His older son is a mess. I still struggle with PTSD.

My Memorial Experience
by oneairhead infirst of all i noticed that this just seemed like another meeting.
when we drove in we had people parking us in strange ways, not to mention that the amount of cars there was just as many as a highly attended sunday meeting and we do fine then when we have no one to park us.
they had more seats set out and there were no new ones just people who had not come in awhile.

We went - first JW meeting for husband. (He went to a funeral recently as well at a KH).
It was so sad..... The rejection of Jesus, the lack of joy - the talk was dead, the singing was dead and did anyone notice that the last song (105) contradicted itself?
We had to stand. The brothers that knew me tried to pretend they didn't. The brothers who didn't know me were all friendly and tried to offer my husband (pastor) a Bible Study. People that knew me - some were sensible and said hi and were fine - others were rude. The bimbo sister went after my new husband immediately.
Has anyone noticed the high percentage of teen pregnancys in the org? and the wife swapping? I do not see this at the Christian church I attend, and I do see joyful worship. What a contrast next day's Easter Service was......
Wow - a great reminder of why I ain't never goin' back....

Count me in. I accepted Christ right about the same time or just after I gave up on the JWs.

Did Prayer work for you, or not?
by gaiagirl injws, and christians in genreral, are taught that god answers prayers of sincere believers.
on the other hand, there is a popular bumpersticker which reads "nothing fails like prayer".. what has been your experience in this regard?
did god answer your most heartfelt prayers, or were they ignored?.

""God helps those who help themselves" {famous christian saying}" - however, nothing Christian whatsoever about this saying. In fact it is not even in the Bible. What IS in the Bible - Galatians 3:3 - "Are you so foolish? After beginning with the Spirit, are you now trying to attain your goal by human effort?"
As a JW, I don't remember prayer being an integral part of worship or life. In fact, we were taught that God does not listen to most prayers - long list of what He listens to, who He does not listen to.... As a Christian, prayer has become integral and God answers those prayers. In fact, another thing JWs missed was that God speaks to us. Yes, He talks back!!!! We just have to listen. When, as a JW, did you spend time LISTENING to God?
Or do you remember that you should not pray out loud because the Devil would hear you, but God can read your mind?
