What religion are you now?

i've struggled with wanting to be 'something' mostly probably to fill that hole that was left and to try and belong somewhere, anywhere really.

so i've tried penecostal, presbyterian, united churches but they all seem fake.

i always compared everything to the jw's, and didn't even realize it.

I am a Christian now and I don't believe for a minute that there is only one right religion in the way that the jw's taught. The truth is Christ and members of His body are in many different churches. We are born of the spirit and Christ lives in us. There are plenty of churches that seem dull or ?? but there are also individual people that you can see Christ in. The love is what is important. I lean toward non-denominational churches but that's just me. I used to go to a Baptist church but I noticed extra rules ie: no dancing, tithing as rule, no wine, etc.. I think that gathering together is important for upbuilding one another. I fail to see why some Christians pick at others about attending church every Sun am, pm and Wed. I do not see it as a commandement of God but I do see it as legalistic and man made. It is a great thing to do if you want to but I do not see it as mandatory and I get very upset with those who think that perfect attendance is more important than our daily walk. I am still looking for a church like that. When I find it, I'll feel at home. imo, most of the Protestant churches teach the gospel that Christ taught and that is most important. I wish that the people would quit judging with a school like mentality calling role call. I relate to what you said about making friends. Christians who were never in a cult like the jw's cannot relate to us no matter how hard they try. I wouldn't wish the experience on them either!! They seem to have had it so much easier and can't see the things that could make us concerned but because of that fact, I find them refreshing. Clueless, yes but refreshing nontheless.. It isn't easy to make friend after being in a cultlike mentality for so long but give it time!! Remember the bible says that to make friends we have to show ourselves friendly. New World Translation Errors

hi guys, im on a time budget here.

a jw friend of mine is trying to prove that i have a wrong, twisted bible full of errors and added scriptures.

i have a king james bible, and he has the nwt of course.

Does anyone know if "a god" (John 1:1) has been in any other translation besides Greber and the NWT?

Doubting the Trinity and Paradise

i don't doubt the trinity, but again i had a talk with one of my jw friends and he gave me several bible passages which he wants me to explain, most deal with the trinity, and others deal with the belief in heaven.

he says that they show that jesus was less than his father, and was a separate person, and the others state that paradise will be here on earth.

argument: how come no one has seen god, not even jesus?

Firstborn over all creation is the way that it makes sense with the rest of the bible.This is how the KJV has it translated Firstborn doesn't always mean the first one born in the bible but it means the one who receives inheritance. King David was not born first, actually he was the last born son of Jesse BUT..in Psalms God said that he would "place him as firstborn" It meant rank not birth order. Jesus is highest in rank of all creation. He was the creator Hebrews 1:10. John 1 Collosians...the word [other] in the NWT is a lie and never was in the Greek...ever.

Matthew 24:36

i need someone to explain to me matthew 24:36, preferably people who support the trinity.

it states that no one knows the second coming of jesus, not even the angels, just the father.

my question is, how can jesus not know his second coming if he is part of the trinity, or part of god?

The trinity does teach that the Father is not the same person as the Son and that the Father is superior in position to the Son. It also teaches that they are equal in nature as God. Women are in subjection to their husbands and yet they are both equal in nature as human. In the Isaiah 44 YHWH declares that he alone made the heavens and earth and also in Job 9:8....yet in Hebrews 1:10 and Collosians and John....etc.it says Jesus is the creator. If YHWH did it alone then how is it that he had help?? Did God Lie? Or could it be that YHWH is Jesus? Jesus humbled himself and came in the flesh as a man but He was the creator. Jesus is also called the First and the Last in Rev. aka Alpha and Omega...which is Greek for A to Z which is the same thing as the First and Last. In Isaiah YWYH declares that He is the First and Last...How can there be 2 Firsts and Lasts? They are One.

I Have to Say That...

i find it quite amusing that there are those here, everywhere, who feel themselves so "in-the-know" with regard to the "things" of god... and yet, vehemently deny the spirit... and its gifts.

they pomp and posture over what "the bible says"... as if they are truly knowledgable.

they hold it up as god's infallible word, that which should be consulted devotedly, in order to know god... and the "things" of god... all the while denying what it itself has written in it.

Your laughter is inappropriate. You feel persecuted? Some here have only asked you to test the teachings and you have refused. No one has called you a witch. Please don't exaggerate it in your mind. Some have questioned the validity of the spirit that speaks to you because it is in disagreement with the written word and you refuse to test the utterances. Others have questioned mental illness but surely you can understand why. There are many doctors who believe that all who claim to hear voices are mentally ill and I understand that you don't feel that you need doctor. It certainly couldn't hurt though..they can't just lock l you up like on old tv shows. They would probably only offer med's. They may know many like you. It is a fact though that some voices can be trying to deceive you and do you ever wonder if your friend's voice told him to kill his family? I am concerned about what those voices are saying and simply reminding to you make sure of all things. Your refusal is a concern. My sister was" hearing" and she thought it was the Lord and she felt that she could heal, etc..then after time the voice told her to kill her child. She resisted that. Thank God!! She has never had a problem since and she became a jw after that. I had a similar experience. I am just cautioning you because we are able to be tricked. love, dj

The Holy Spirit... and DOES God Speak to Us?

last night when i went to bed, my heart was quite heavy: there were things on it, in it, thereon... whatever... that i could not reconcile: i know what i have heard from my lord - how do i get others who love him to grasp that such a thing is possible, to understand that they do not have to take my word for it, but can ask him, for i am nothing more than a good-for-nothing-slave... and have "sold" myself into the "service" of the one who "bought" me... so that it is his will that i must obey... whether earthling man hears... or refrain?

this is not new "fight" with me, let me tell you: i know exactly how jeremiah felt, for i cannot count the times my heart has felt the same thing.

My personal belief is that there is a spirit world and some people are more "in tune" with it than others.

I agree with that. My concern is that there are many spirits who teach error and one has to test the inspired utterances. Shelby refuses to test them with the bible. By doing that she is wide open for false teachings. If someone can claim that the majority of the bible is not inspired then what are they testing the inspired utterances with? Paul addressed this specific issue and gave a warning but Shelby doesn't believe that Paul's letters were inspired even though Peter declared them to be. I am not ruling out that there may be a mental illness but I lean toward the spirit world. I know nothing about Aguest except that she is a woman in CA who is black and Jewish and declares herself to be one of the 144,000. She seems polite and gentle and very sincere...That is why I am concerned, she is sincere and needs to heed the warnings that Jesus and Paul gave us.

As a jw, I NEVER experienced this. Instead, I was in a constant state of fear and denial about what the bible really taught.I had to ignore what it said most of the time and obey my earthy authorities. There is no comparison. I can't possibly compare the two except to say day and night. dj

I have had those same thoughts. I have gotten past it now to the point where I am sure about who Jesus is. I don't question it anymore because it became very simple when I finally grasped the what the trinity actually teaches. Some verses are hard to understand but there are atleast 2 verses in the bible that tell us that it would be hard to grasp it fully. I understand the trinity in that, I can comprehend it but I am unable to explain all of the details..lol. It honestly is the only way to be able to reconcile the fact that Jesus is the creator. The bible absolutley teaches a trinity from the beginning to end. I have yet to find any human who has come up with an explanation that doesn't have major obvious flaws...yet, the trinity seems to have all of the bases covered, so to speak. I have dwelled and dwelled and studied and prayed about it and it is what seems right to me. Sometimes, I get the thought."omg, what if....God will hate me because I have this wrong!" Then I have to remain calm and scriptures come to mind to help me reinforce what I believe. I feel like it is a constant spiritual battle internally but the Holy Spirit gives me the teachings to combat the fears, everytime. It is a most amazing thing. The fears and doubts come and sometimes are very upsetting but as I have learned to rely on the Spirit within me....He does the fighting for me by arming me with the word (biblical truths) and BAM.....the fears are blasted into oblivion. This is a daily battle. Hey......does anyone else go thru this? Is this what spiritual warfare is? Or am I just a loon? dj
