New World Translation Errors

hi guys, im on a time budget here.

a jw friend of mine is trying to prove that i have a wrong, twisted bible full of errors and added scriptures.

i have a king james bible, and he has the nwt of course.

DJ, that may well be so in a discussion on whether it is scriptural to pray to Jesus. But in a discussion on NWT translation errors the presence or absence of the additional "me" makes quite a difference to the meaning of this particular text.

I disagree. Only because as a jw I only used the NWT and I saw that verse as an invition to prayer to Jesus. I still do. One me or two.....doesn't matter to me. I understand what you are saying. I just don't and never did see it that way. No big deal, eh? love, dj

this is in reference to the comments that kgb made on the thread i started yesterday about the molester who was crushed underneath a car.. http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/54218/1.ashx.

he talked of forgiveness of murderers, molesters, rapists, etc.

i know that many churchgoes feel the same way about this.. my question is, if god can forgive murderers, rapists, etc., then what about those who don't believe in god, who don't have 'faith'?

(((((rocketman))))) I didn't take offense. I know that you are not mean spirited. As far as living with guilt. Yes, i agree b/c the wt made me feel that way as well. Since I left their teachings I have come to discern the difference between conviction by the Holy Spirit and condemnation. That was key for me to understand. I don't feel in danger of losing my salvation when I sin now, like I did as jw, instead I have learned to simply take the conviction (guilt as you put it) and realize that it is a reminder of why Christ died for me .Plead the blood of the lamb. Otherwise....I would become arrogant I suppose. It keeps me humble yet I do not feel condemned in any way. I also agree that some days,heck all I did was take care of kids and handle the neccesities in life....etc...so where did I sin? Maybe some days I don't ??? That mechanism of conviction is there though when I do need it. I view it as a gentle reminder, that's all. I think it is how we react to the conviction that is important. I'm thankful for it now! It's like the conscience that I never had.. I neede it, believe me when I tell ya...I was bad. Some of the wt induced guilt about holidays and other freedoms that we have in Christ had caused me to stumble because those convictions were not truly convictions of the Spirit, but man made rules. I hope that I made sense to you. I tend to be babbling lately. love, dj

If you don't feel that you need forgiveness then fine. I disagree but the decision is not mine to make for you. I am not going to respond to your posting because it seems futile and I have to draw the line somewhere. I am not the type who enjoys debating when it seems to be for nothing. You have made your opinions clear throughout the board about your opinion of God and his existence and how He should be according to you. I don't agree but I accept your right to think that way. love, dj

The Holy Spirit... and DOES God Speak to Us?

last night when i went to bed, my heart was quite heavy: there were things on it, in it, thereon... whatever... that i could not reconcile: i know what i have heard from my lord - how do i get others who love him to grasp that such a thing is possible, to understand that they do not have to take my word for it, but can ask him, for i am nothing more than a good-for-nothing-slave... and have "sold" myself into the "service" of the one who "bought" me... so that it is his will that i must obey... whether earthling man hears... or refrain?

this is not new "fight" with me, let me tell you: i know exactly how jeremiah felt, for i cannot count the times my heart has felt the same thing.

The bible mentions we are all God's sons.

The bible does not teach that we are all sons of God but only those who do His will.

You have ignored the other verses!! To put Jesus on the same level as any man such as a prophet is wrong. He has created all things! Hebrews 1:10 John 1 Collosians, etc.... What prophet do you know of that is also the creator?

Hate the sin but love the sinner, lest we judge. We have all sinned. The audacity to rely on God's approval of your goods works without acknowledging Him in your life or in the life of His Son who gave His life so that you may receive forgiveness is hypocritical at best. If you works are so wonderful and your life is so clean then yo only lie if you see no need for forgiveness because All of us sin. It may not be a sin such as murder or pedophilia, etc... but we all sin in one way or another. This is the teaching of the gospel. If you feel that good works save you are backwards because good works that come thru faith is proof of a saving faith. A Christians good works come from love and a desire to obey but we do not think we are owed something for it. It is simply what we are supposed to be doing anyway! You cannot earn your salvation. It is thru faith in Christ's sacrifice then all the good works that flow are only a proof of that faith and a desire to do what is pleasing to God. You show me an atheist who lives a perfect sinless life who wants to be saved by his good works and I will show you a liar. We all sin, that is why we need Christ....for forgiveness. Someone who can't admit sin is a lying to themselves. When we are created anew in Christ (born again) even the tiniest things that we do wrong are heavy on our souls and we see all of this sin that we ignored before. I asked Jesus to come into my life, and my life went downhill.....

Mine did too!! I mentioned to you before that it gets better and we are strengthened in due time. Peter addresses this. I did expect only wonderful things in my life when I first became a Christian but quite the contrary!! Then I realized that Jesus never in any way taught us that we would lie in a bed or roses in fact, He taught the opposite. There is persecution, not only from people but from within when we battle the internal struggle of a believer. It is not an easy road and not for the coward. We are being taught to lean on Him and not ourselves for His strength. It is a chastisement in a way because all those He loves He chastises. It can be likened to living in a crucibal. I've found that in my deepest despairs and fears and trials and whatever else if I lean on Him and wait with patience for His help, it always comes. I admit most of the time it is not the timing that I want but in His time and from that waiting period..I learn patience and endurance in all of my struggles. In the end, it seems to be valuable in teaching me to rely on Him more because I have a tendency to want ot fix things and NOW....so I lack patience and humility and He is teaching me like a babe and YES...sometimes it hurts! Have you been able to ever look back at a sad/hard situation in your life and see what you were being taught? It isn't fun but I would not want to be without His hand. love, dj

LOL, perhaps not actually! There is that circular mumbo jumbo from them again... I never saw it their way on that one. I do see Jesus as mediator yet He is still to be prayed to imo..otherwise Jesus would have stated something like...Ask anything of God through me and I will ask Him for you and then I will ask Him if I can do it" LOL. The wt uses "ask anything in my name" as a cliche at the end of their prayers..."through your son Jesus Christ, amen" . It has no meaning to them, especially if Jesus is not truly the only mediator like they teach. The "annointed" being the mediator for the rank and file is a very blasphemous teaching imo. LOL...off topic again...C ya!

i was recently asked about my opinion re: hell.. as a born-and-raised jw i obviously never believed in hell-fire torment.

actually, i refuse to believe in such a thing.

for many years my favorite response to the idea was "i would rather burn in hell than worship a god who would create such a place.".

Where did you get that? I NEVER said that Jesus didn't die! You are mistaken my friend. You ought to make sure of things before you spread false rumours, ok? dj

Hi Craig,

I don't see the need for the extra "me" to justify that Jesus was condoning prayer to Him in John 14:14. Simply by saying "I will do it" shows that He is answering the prayer. Why would He point blank say that He answers prayer if He doesn't listen to them when He is prayed to? The wt can verse hop all they want but He said what He said there....one "me", two "me's" makes no real difference. My KJV uses only one "me". I must say that when I first read that my eyes opened wide. Jesus' words there do not jive with the wt teachings about Him no matter how you slice it. love, dj
