How do they determine who is inactive?
by I.Wonder ini am still "in" the org (technically) and i have never got the same answer twice.
i have been told that if you don't report time for one month then your considered inactive for six months.
i have also been told that if you don't report for six months then your inactive.

10,000 steps a day .....................are you kidding ???
by vitty ini have read to get your exercise quoter in for the day you should be walking at least 10,000 steps per day.................yikes.
ive just taken the dog for his usual 30 minute walk and on average i clocked up about 500 steps per 5 mins...............it wasnt very acurate cos he kept stopping and starting...................but that s only about 3,000 steps per 30 minute walk.. as im not very active ( spend too much time on here) where do i get my other 7,000 steps in ?
i would have to be walking round all day.

I read somewhere that you need to do 10,000 steps a day to maintain your current weight and if you are trying to lose weight you need to do more!Thats probably why my pedometer is at the back of a cupboard somewhere!

"Worldlings" - What was your opinion when you were in the Org?
by Jerohobobonadad inhello all.. although never a fully paid up, dunked member of the club, i was at times very keen on the whole jw thang.. when i was in, i thought all worldly people were lying, cheating, alcohol and drug addicted, sex obsessed gambling criminals who should be treated with ,at least a very high degree of suspicion.
as per the classic pictures in the 80's books - all women looked like hookers, all men were pictured smoking or with a whisky bottle.. did others here have similar opinions.. i remember being 8 or 9 and my idea of a worldly man was a picture in the pale blue (creation book) or the red one (dunno the name) - i'll try and scan the picture i mean one day, it's brilliant.
it is a chap with a black moustache and a white shirt sat at a circular table looking all forlorn.

I was 20 when i joined up and none of my families are jws so i never thought worldings were all evil.In fact as times gone on my husband has often commented on the fact that my family are the ones who act as christians should although they are not religious, and his family who are jws are v selfish and couldn't care less about him.

FF is correct i should know cos i was always one or the other! There is no scriptural basis for this , just another way of controlling you and making sure you put your reports in.I did eventually try just putting one hr a month down so i'd stay regular and it was going ok til the elder made the comment 'so when can i look forward to seeing you putting down more than just one hour - would you like to try for two next month' so i stopped going out altogether!

African JWs Can Keep "Messianic" Attire Because It's There Culture!
by minimus inmy mom went to the sunday meeting and a missionary that was formerly in the congregation was showing (boring) slides about the "work" in africa.
when he showed some pictures of some witnesses, they were dressed in what he called "messianic attire".
he told the audience that it was no big deal that they were being allowed to continue this style of dress by the society since it was merely seen as "cultural".

The News is so depressing today
by MsMcDucket inwhen i first turned on the computer, it showed pictures of terri irwin and her grieving, the tv commentators talking about terrell owens (possibly) trying to commit suicide, rev run his wife (run's house mtv reality series) baby being still-born --the babies internal organs were external.

I try to avoid the news whenever i can, this week a baby girl was killed by two dogs poor little mite, and i could'nt believe those awful murders that came up on my computer, about someone who killed her pregnant friend cut out the dead baby and drowned the other 3 kiddies then stuffed them in washing machine! And she's a mother too how could she?The only good news i saw this week was about a three year old boy who managed to but a £9,000 car on ebay!I wish they'd put more things like that on the news to balance it all out and end on a good note and i wish they wouldn't put the news on at dinnertime cos it puts me off eating or near bedtime and then i lie awake crying about it all!

Apparently the custom of clothing boys in blue stems from pagans as well as they thought there was something magical about the colour and it would give extra strength and protection when they'd go and fight, wedding rings too have pagan origin and they used to say windchimes were a no-no, i was even told i couldn't give a barn dance for my wedding as some of the dances were pagan! But these things are now acceptable because the wts (can't remember which mag i read it in now) said that certain things can be acceptable if most modern day people don't realize the origins and how many people out there would equate birthday candles with pagan practices? So surely birthdays are ok as well.

I know of two people who committed gross sins (separately) and both were repentant and were allowed to continue, although i think they couldn't answer up for a while or join the school then again who's to say someone's repentant anyway they could just say that to stay in and the elders wouldn't know. It's all a lot of tripe anyway and from my experience the elders only act like 'loving shepherds' when you are toeing the line and agreeing with every little thing they say.
