I can't believe how many Saturdays in my life were spent doing the same thing.
*sigh*
what a waste, all of those hours of sleeped I missed!
7:30-too early to get up on a saturday morning but the co is visiting and i must show up to make our cong.
9:00 - arrive at kh, smile and say "good morning" to everyone (even though i'm still half asleep).
he visited had 69 people when he was there.

my husband and i have been pulling away from the jw's for almost a year now and we have had very frank discussions with family and friends as to the reason why.. however, they can't seem to get it through their heads that we are unhappy with the wt beliefs, doctrines, essentially the "truth".
this despite our voicing strong opinions on the blood issue, child abuse issue, generation, false predictions etc.. even today my mom-in-law said, "you just gotta serve jah despite the people" you see about four years ago we had a terrible falling out with some mean and deceitful elders and everyone thinks that is why we are inactive.
but it's not, we kept going to the meetings for three years after that event.. and if it is not the elder thing, my friends blame my dysfunctional childhood (namely stepfather) for turning me against the truth, "it's not the truth you can't blame jah, you just didn't have a happy family, blah, blah, blah...".

Anyone else have this experience?
Not too mention the fact that everyone seems to be holding their breath for something bad to happen to us - something that makes us come crawling back or at least shows we have lost Jah's blessing. Or they keep saying we'll be back, we just have to sort some things out.
Damn, it's kind of making me mad. I have already picked out my son's Halloween costume, maybe I'll just take him to an elder's house on Halloween and get the whole thing over with. Just get D'fed
.
the worst magazines i tryed to place was about 13 months ago i think 1 was the watchower on witchcraft and the other was the elderly commiting suicide.i thought how the hell am i going to offer this mag on witchcraft, i think i ended giving them to the pioneers,i mean what sort of presentation could i use with this witchcraft article i suppose i could of spoke about the blair witch project and tell them how c:@p it was,i mean i loved horror films.and to make things worse the magazine about the elderly commiting suicide "oh god" that was a bad one especially when i had to offer it at an old peoples home.
so anyone on here what mags did you find terrible to place.
There were so many bad Watchtowers, can't pick one.
However there was were were placing right before I left entitled "Do You Have A Soul?"
I had the incredible urge to cover the "a" with my finger and offer the magazine as "Do You Have Soul?"
Should have done it!
there have been several posts about the way witnesses discipline their kids lately, this prompts me to ask.... has anyone had the "dr spock quote" thrown in their face by a witness?
i have heard witnesses throw this about for years, but cannot honestly remember ever seeing it in print.
and i have never read any of dr. spock's books.
Thank you, Thank you Incense and Captain!!!
I am printing this post out and keeping it. I had ALWAYS thought the Dr. Spock quote suspicious thanks for the proof.
I am a fan of Penelope Leach myself. I read so much about child devleopment before my son was born I vowed to not even go down the road of physical punishment despite peer pressure from JW friends and the congregation.
Dakota - what you said about common sense is a good point. For example, one of the arguments I have used with my JW friends is EXACTLY what Dr. Spock said - if we hit an adult at work that made us angry we would get charged with assualt, so why are we hitting our kids?
Animal - I agree with your thoughts on discipline. As long as kids see consequences for their actions, such as having a privilege taken away, I think you have done the best you can as a parent.
Zenpunk- you aren't one of my sisters are you? :) my mom used the wooden spoon on us too.

Has anyone had the "Dr Spock quote" thrown in their face by a witness? I have heard witnesses throw this about for years, but cannot honestly remember ever seeing it in print. And I have never read any of Dr. Spock's books. Has anyone been told the following by a witness:
"Dr. Spock said you shouldn't spank your kids then later he recanted that statement claiming his advice contributed to a generation of juvenile delinquents"
I swear I have heard this used by witnesses more than once, recently a witness friend used it on me. Has anyone heard this or do you know if Dr. Spock really said it? Witnesses quote this like it is the stone cold truth, but I doubt if any of them have ever read his books.
One thing is for sure, the generations born in the 50's and 60's and raised on Dr. Spock's advice are among those responsible for the civil rights movement, women's liberation, the advancement of technology, environmental consciousness, etc that have made our place a better world.
It's just like a witness to ignore that and claim they are all a bunch of juvies - that rock 'n' roll music is what's to blame, all that gyrating!
after reading marylin's post about dicipline, i'm feeling all worked up, as i can totally relate to the cild that is being beat.
especially at the meetings.. anyway, it makes me want to go back to the meetings to keep an eye out for those type of parents that like to hit there kids; and when i see it happening i think i'll take the liberty of walking up behind that parent and wacking him upside his head.. anyone want to help?.
f%$k them f%$#ing f#%ks!!!!!!
There is a tremendous amount of peer pressure to spank your kids at the meetings too.
It's like if you don't smack them then you are not doing your duty as a parent, because Jah says it is o.k. to smack them so if you don't you are ignoring his counsel.
I talked to a woman at work about this. She grew up in a fundamental christian church (non-JW) but she totally understood what I meant. Her parents put so much pressure on her and her husband to spank and hit their child because it is all wrapped up with God.
It is just sooo completely f**ed up. Witness kids have no chance - they either have their personality beat out of them and conform or are driven away.
vent on.
i can't possibly be the only one feeling this way.. here's a self-professed maybe ex jw pedophile whose made upwards to a billion dollars selling records now using the race card.
michael jackson...using the race card.. could it be sour grapes because the album he spent 50 million producing was a complete and utter flop?
Michael Jackson claims he has vitiligo (sp?). Vitiligo is a real disease.
My boss has it and she is white. It is an auto-immune condition in which your body begins to attack your pigment cells. It is distantly related to such conditions as lupus.
There are three legitimate treatments for the disease, skin bleaching, pills that stimulate pigment cell growth and makeup. The pills are fairly risky, bleaching is the safest and most effective treatment if you are concerned about the appearance of blotchy skin. It also depends on how far the condition has progressed, my boss just uses some very good makeup to even her skin tone.
Michael Jackson has some serious issues, however if he has this disease it could really effect is self esteem.
Of course what he has done to his nose beats me, he is starting to look like a Roswell Alien.
the simpsons is one of the few shows i can watch over and over never get bored with.
a couple of my favorite quotes.
tony the mafia guy talking to marge: you betta have our money in 24 hours and just to show you we're serious you now have 12. .
"Nachos Flanders-style, cucumber slices with cottage cheese!" (Rod and Tod say Yay!)
"ACK!, there goes my retirement!" (the scottish school janitor in the episode when homer tries to make money selling old grease and steals the grease from the school cafeteria)
"We've tried nothing man, and it ain't working" (Flanders beatnick parents talking to a psychiatrist about Flanders unruly behavior) "Lousy beatniks" (Flanders on his parents)
i gotta tell you this story... .
was at the doctors today (damn flu!
) and instead of my usual doctor i had another one.
The Moral of this Story, in my opinion, tear that blood card up ASAP. Don't wait, do it when you are first having doubts or at least don't carry it with you. Because if this guy needed blood and had no objection to it, he could have died while the doctors wasted time trying to figure out what to do.
The elders reaction in this situation was just so typical. NO LOVE. I mean if this df'd person was carrying his card because he was trying to "do right" which would possibly lead back into the borg, why wouldn't those elders have rushed to his side to see if they could help? They are just so hateful.
your little jehovah will fail you .
in honor of: dave haack .
when i became associated with the jws in 1968, i was working at a machine manufacturing plant in california.
Amazing, thank you for sharing. Naeblis you too.
I had a similiar experience. When I was a junior in high school I got baptized and decided I would pioneer after graduation.
My Father is not a JW and I remember he sat down to talk to me about my plans for the future. I told him that I didn't want to go to college because we were living in the last days and that I planned to pioneer.
He looked at me sadly and said, "I can only imagine how you are going to feel 10 years from now, believe me you are not going to feel the same as about this religion as you do now."
I shot him a smug look and went on to waste 16 years of my life.
I called him on Father's Day this year to tell him I was no longer a witness. He said, "Look, it's not so much that I am happy you aren't a witness anymore, it's that now you are going to have a better life. Think of all the things you can do and the opportunities you will have, and your son he WILL have a better life." He was so kind about everything and understanding. He didn't make me feel stupid or guilty, he wasn't angry with me and he didn't belittle me.
And then I realized that he has always been there for me. I mean he has been waiting for me to wake up for years. He has been so patient. He respected my beliefs, but he never condoned my choices. He tried to encourage me in the right way, but he never abandoned me when I was an idiot and ignored him.
And truly when the fog started to lift, his words about "10 years from now" were the first thing I thought of.
Needless to say I wished him a very Happy Father's Day.
