a bit of a follow on from the "honesty" thread.. another claim that jws make is that they have stronger marriages and are less likely to divorce.. try writing down all the jw couples that you know of that have divorced.. there are bonus points for those who didnt make 2yrs!.
i think you will be shocked at the number you can come up with.
we came up with 60 couples in less than 20mins.
Ironically, my husband heard from a friend just yesterday and he mentioned two JW couples we knew who are going through divorce.
I don't think the divorce rate is any lower among JW's and even if it is, I am sure that the number of happy marriages are lower than the norm. I have seen first hand more unhappy than happy JW marriages, but some stay together longer for the "truth".

i was df'd a number of years ago.
my parents never shunned me - they didn't feel that df'ing broke the family ties.
but when my brothers or uncle were in town i was "allowed" to come visit at certain times when their other jw friends would not be around.
Awesome! Sounds like your son has grown up to have a mind of his own and a good understanding of the meaning of real love and loyalty.

However a nagging doubt that never went away - 1914 plus 80 years is 1994. If a generation is 70 or 80 years according to Psalms, the generation should have ended in 1994. One year after it doesn't end we change our belief. Coincidence? I think not! New Light? I think not. A cover up and smoke screen? I think SO!

My husband and I saw this episode!
We were debating whether or not they were still active witnesses. If they aren't active anymore maybe they picked those books because they looked good on the shelves - kind of color coordinated with the bright blue walls.
We did speculate, however, that if they are still active they might be considered materialistic by everyone in their congregation and may not have many friends as a result. Their house seemed really nice, and I am sure they spent quite a bit on that room. Seems like they might get counseled for using their money so frivolously and not putting it in the contribution box. And if the designer is gay, they might get flack about associating with him. Silly that a person would have to worry about all of those things just to re-decorate their house.
I have to agree that it gave me a start to see those books. It is a wierd feeling that we understand the significance of those books where as the average person would not.
i need to vent because i feel like i'm going to explode.
please bear with me while i 'try' to describe what is going on.
in less than two weeks my baby graduates high school.
I was thinking maybe she would like a scrapbook. You could do the first couple of pages with pictures of her graduation. Since you are artistic, you could draw designs or something on the pages around the pictures. I know that scrapbooking is really popular and the supplies are relatively inexpensive at craft stores
If you leave the rest of the scrapbook empty, you could tell your daughter that you know she is going to accomplish wonderful things and you hope to see the book filled with happy memories.You can always get her graduation ring down the road.
It sounds like you have done a wonderful job as mother, you should feel a sense of accomplishment. I only hope I can do as well with my little one. I am sure you have bittersweet feelings as you watch them go off to follow their dreams, especially if many of your dreams have been put on hold by circumstances. But don't give up, your time is here! So much of the hard work is behind you. Just take it one day at a time. Forget what society may think, mothers like you are MY hero!!!

hello watchtower monitors and people of the board....here's the game.. somewhere, in the united states, there is going to be an apostate showing up at one of your district assemblies, he will be sporting a rainbow wig and a john 3:16 sign.
inside the convention.. now now, before apologists and dissents come my way.....i got a protest permit to be on said premis, and also, once i wear the wig and show the sign....as soon as they tell me to leave, i will comply...therefore i cant go to jail(saaay all you want, i already have an "ace up the sleeve" on this, so guess what?

I believe the John 3:16 signs were started by the fans of Stone Cold Steve Austin. He is a wrestler, although I don't know the reason why this scripture was chosen. Basically, Steve Austin's character is a total rebel and bad ass. Anyway, that's what I have been told about the signs.

i am new to this site and have read with keen interest the many and varied topics that have been posted.
during my 9 years of presiding i encountered certain corrupt c/os for example the friends would treat them like little demy gods, hanging onto their every word, they would, on their visit influence the brothers to part with cash for privledges.
I have always wondered if it worked that way.
My husband was never liked by our PO, but we had a CO that he really clicked with, nice guy not too extreme. Our family as a whole gave him a card and about $150 dollars during one of his visits and took him and his wife out to eat at Red Lobster. We did it because we genuinely liked them, not because we wanted anything from them. However, the result was that my husband was appointed School Overseer based on this CO's recommendation, despite the fact he was only an MS at the time. Next time he visits my husband is appointed an elder.
Next CO comes around he loves the PO but, never clicks with my husband. We give him and his wife $20 during a visit. We get a thank-you card, they wrote "Thank-you for your GIFT" (caps are mine, but we get the point on how they avoid the taxman). And two years later this CO is instrumental in conducting a witch-hunt resulting in my husband's deletion as an elder.
Guess $20 was just too damn cheap.
