Nuke almost went off
by zagor inmishap in dismantling nuclear warhead.
austin, texas, dec. 15 (upi) -- a watchdog group charges a nuclear warhead nearly exploded in texas when it was being dismantled at the government's pantex facility near amarillo.
the project on government oversight says it has been told by knowledgeable experts that the warhead nearly detonated in 2005 because an unsafe amount of pressure was applied while it was being disassembled, the austin american-statesman reports.

Thanks all now I'm leaving
by wozadummy indue to funkyderek i have come to the decision to leave this board.
when i posted on the current gay thread in a way that i thought would stimulate thinking and lighten up the seriosness of the thread and have a laugh, he and others put me down publically labelling me.
so i find it difficult now to continue posting knowing that someone has influenced others into thinking that i'm not worthy of being here because my phrasing and spelling is bad and that i'm apparently a "hyporite".

Trinity discussion - link me up please
by Inquisitor ini remember once reading someone's post where he/she used an excellent scripture that strongly suggests that jesus is god.
i think the point was that jesus was going to raise "the temple" which is his body, i.e.
jesus will resurrect himself.

What do the endless debates with ThirdWitness etc prove?
by jwfacts inthere are currently long debates going on with 3w about the subtle meaning of words and how they are supposed to prove the wts has the correct doctrine.
even as a jw i always noticed that it was impossible to prove a doctrine to people in the field.
the fact that 2 christians can discuss topics endlessly without any conclusion shows me that god can not possibly be going to destroy every non jw simply because they could not be convinced of watchtower doctrine.. the bible says very little about doctrine, besides pauls discussions to show jesus is our ransomer and means for everlasting heavenly life.

You are absolutely correct -- they are useful for the people still learning the arguments.

What about how Jesus keeps saying that he was sent by one greater than himself... that isn't coequal.
What the trinitarian excuse for that?

What if? Works and no faith?
by JWdaughter ini was wondering, as i see all you under-the-radar-apostates-at-heart who still go along as jw's what the wt and elders would say about a person who didn't say anything about the org, went along with it, was a publisher, did the studies, went to the meetings, and did all they are 'supposed to do', but didn't buy a word of it?
for the same reason that many of you do, without speaking out about it, just keeping all the doubts, anger etc inside.
would you be saved at armageddon in their view?

For myself, belief and faith are my big stumbling blocks.
But I'm told that "Jehovah knows your heart" and if he knows that, like Mulder, I *want* to believe, I'll be safe. Right?

Has anyone else been referred to as a "New Wave Apostate"
by 30girl inone of my friends parents referred to us (my sweetie and i) as "new wave" apostates.
has anyone else heard this term, been referred to as one?
i was just wondering if this is a new attempt to squash critical thinking?

No. But this is my 100th post and I think it moves me out of Newbie shame.

Isn't resurection just you dying and leaving behind a really confused clone
by mkr32208 inphilosophy is becoming more and more interesting to me.
questions of existence of what makes you, well you!
i've been mulling this over in my mind for a while, and decided to ask your opinions on it!.

I often think about what makes me "me." I've concluded that it isn't my physical body, it's my consciousness. Cogito ergo sum and junk. A clone couldn't be me, any more than the clones in "Boys from Brazil" were really Hitler, no matter how much they tried to simulate his upbringing. The tooth fairy can't do it because it's more than DNA. It's ripples in my experiences that cannot be recreated from scratch (thank god). Can God recreate me? I have no earthly idea. Ask me if i'm me after the shit hits the fan.

VOYEURS OF PHILOSOPHICAL DOOM
by Terry inmy boomer generation was reared in front of a tee-vee set.
our view of life on planet earth (not to mention elsewhere) is framed inside a rectangle of voyeurism.
movies consisted of a larger rectangle with better sound and cushier seats.

He realizes he doesn't need to sacrifice love or life to do it--he only has to incorporate a larger view of what is valuable into his life and exchange something valuable to achieve it. In other words, this film has a vision that allows an IDEAL through behavior by demonstrating a greater opportunity than mere complaint, destruction or self-destruction.
He didn't sacrifice *love* because Ilsa didn't love him. She was willing to sacrifice the love of whats-his-name. I agree that his behavior served a greater purpose, but I don't follow your meaning about the IDEAL and complaint, etc.

"....you will be like gods, knowing good and evil."
by Lilycurly ini know this has been mentioned before, but i'd like to bring that question to the front again.
not only from a jw's perspective, but also from all other christians.. who lied to man and woman in the eden story?.
yahweh god says to men: 17 "nevertheless of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you are not to eat, for on the day you eat of it you shall most surely die.
-
Auchmull
No, he didn't. God lied about dying. Adam and Eve didn't die as a result of eating the fruit. God banished them so they wouldn't be able to eat from the tree of life and live forever. They died hundreds of years later.
They lost eternal life on the day they ate the fruit -- the dying just took awhile.
