I think you are handling this very well. Your wife will come around, you are letting her make her own decision, that's smart. The elders probably know you are smart enough to make up your own mind, and there would be little they could do to change your mind and they would have to DF you if they forced the issue. They don't want to have to do that, so consider yourself lucky.

My wife "Rowan" needs of your support too.
by Gerard inmy wife 'rowan' was born and raised a jw, her father being an elder -a very gentle loving person, but an elder.. some years ago, she was betrayed by a close friend, subjected to a jc and was disfellowshiped & shunned.
the proceeding was completely void of mercy and love, it was much like a violation, a rape.
finding herself df'd was of course terrifying, but the most disapointing outcome was that her father sided with the elders.. eventually she discovered through select books, articles and this board about the fear-driven mind control ways of her religion.

I have found meditation and journaling to be very helpfull in bringing out painfull emotions and memories and dealing with them. The JW Brainwashing teaches you to ignore your feelings so they just get buried. It takes time to work through this. Also they made me afraid to use meditation (unless you were meditating on the Bible!). Don't be afraid it's very helpfull.

There was an elder that I used to hate, He was a bitter, smug, know-it-all. His wife used to sit there like a scared little mouse and never said a word. It turned out he was totally abusing her. The kids made her leave him as they feared for her life as she was elderly and in poor health. He then killed himself.

I wanted a White Christmas this year. Here in the front range of Colorado, snow is not unusual but not guaranteed this time of year. We are lucky to get a few inches. I guess you should be careful what you wish for. This is our backyard. We survived the "Blizzard of 06", but are snowed in, probably for a couple of days. Hope you can see this picture - I've never tried to insert one before

Do elders 'frighten' you?
by gypsytart ini put 'frighten' in quote marks because i'm not sure that's exactly the word i'm looking for.
i've been away from the borg for 10 years now, and it doesn't bother me these days when i'm called on by jws - most of whom i know as i'm living in the same area still.
i can quite happily stand up for myself to them - although i have to be a little careful what i say as i was a fader and never df'd.

Suicide is a VERY bad thing.....

(((((HUG))))) my heart goes out to you. I had a daugter that was suicidal for 5 years, she attempted twice. Fortunately she got help and overcame this problem. No matter how bleak things may seem, where there is life, there is hope. Problems can be overcome, things get better. Never, never never give up.

Not only am I celebrating, I dressed as Mrs. Claus (with my Hubbie as the fat man himself) on Saturday at the co-op of business where I have my antique shop. We had a great time, I took pictures and handed out candy canes. I think you can safely say I have gotten over my fear of Xmas.
