I have heard that Shen Yun is part of Falun Gong, a cult, although I do not know if it is true or not.

E cart witnessing on our way to see Shen Yun in San Francisco
by cha ching intoday, i took the day off to go with my husband to san francisco on bart to see shen yun.
coming out of the station, were two elders at a watchtower cart!
my husband loves to witness to them.. started off with a smile and they smiled back and he told them he had been associated with jehovah's witnesses and now he is not but he wishes to tell them that even though they are going to hear things that are upsetting in the news, there is life after jehovah's witnesses.. they smiled and asked him if they could ask what religion he has gone to, or what he is doing now.

JW's - Do you follow pagan practices?
by The Fall Guy inw95 5/15 p. 19 part 1—flashes of light - great and small: “jehovah’s witnesses do not celebrate birthdays because these observances have pagan origins and tend to exalt the ones having a birthday.” (jw broadcasting doesn't exalt the gibbering body??????).
in order to be “faithful in what is least” and to “stop touching the unclean thing,” j.w.
's should abhor & shun all of the following traditions and practices due to their pagan/demonic origins - especially using the names of weekdays and several of the names of months.. “it was believed that sneezing was the way for the body to rid itself of the devil's evil influences.

Pagan, smagen, it's just customs people had before christianity, nothing to get excited about. It's really just a way for the cult to set themselves apart and feel "holier than thou" and also completely arbitrary, as they accept many things of so called "pagan origin"" while rejecting others for no good reason. It reminds of when Jesus warned about "practicing your righteousness before men", all for show.
When people say "bless you" when you sneeze they aren't worried about demons, it's just a social pleasantry, nobody cares about the original meaning, when a JW brings it up It just makes them seem deranged.

Why do ex-JW's talk so much about being ex-JW's?
by Sour Grapes inis it because we were in the cult watchtower compound that we talk about being ex-jw's when we stop being active?
i have never heard anyone say that i was an ex-catholic or an ex-lutheran or an ex-baptist.
they just stop going to their church and don't talk about it.. years after not stepping inside a kingdom hell, many of us still have to talk about being ex-jw's.

A very small percentage of ex JWs ever post on message boards like this. Of those who do, most come here, post for a while, then move on with their lives. A few stick around for various reasons, maybe they are still pissed off, maybe not, you really can't make generalizations.
Yet it is different than being an ex catholic, because the Catholic religion is not a cult and generally does not damage people in the way that this religion does, since they were not controlled to the same extent as members and are not shunned when they left.

Family Insists on Having Relationship with My Child -_-
by Cimarrona inhi gang, i'm a single mother of an 8 month old baby boy.
i've been df'd for over six years now.
my parents are super dubs and most of my siblings are dubs (on paper - a couple have been inactive my entire life but still claim to believe) with the exception of a brother who was never baptized.

Good for you in setting boundaries. I know how difficult it must be to not have that child care at times, but you don't want to go down that path and have your child grow up thinking it's OK to let people treat you like that, better to have your house be a little dirty.

Good for you for taking the time to give them a reverse witness. I was in Washington D.C. last week and they were doing cart work by the White House. No way would I be standing out in that cold (about 20 degrees F and windy) for any reason whatsoever. I could barely stand to walk a few blocks, and I only did that to see a gallery. I kind of felt sorry for them standing there for no reason, what a waste of time.

I just got back from two weeks on the East Coast and it was nasty, c-c-c-cold. It didn't help that I got a nasty bug while there, so I was really happy to get home to warmer weather and my own bed.
My first night home, woken up by a 4.4 earthquake at 2:43 in the morning.
Thanks California!

Avoiding Service Tips?
by Kohanic inback again!.
so as i'm still pimo and living under my parent's roof, how can i get out of service?
cause i really don't want to go and i feel dirty just knowing i could be influencing someone into this garbage..

LisaRose
Don't worry, the odds of actually influencing anyone by means of the preaching work is practically non existent anyway. 😉

Local elder dies of starvation
by Steel inwell , not really.. our hall recently had a secret collection for our head elder who is almost on the verge of becoming homeless.
i guess he lost some cleaning contracts because his clients were just sick of his no shows because of his pioneer work.
there is always something more important to do than earn a living.. this is the same assholes he is always shaming people to not doing enough.

1 Timothy 5:8 But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

Prophecy question as hysteria sets in
by Isambard Crater ina load of j.w's in my family and the congregation i attend as a pimo have been saying the end is very close because the anglo american world superpower is clearly still the king of the south, and russia is now clearly king of the north due to persecuting and banning the religion there and seizing property.. i've forgot what the religion used to teach and maybe still does, about the timing of all this king of north + south stuff, the attack on all religion by the u.n and then the attack on j.w's who will be left standing.
i mean, i thought jehovah was going to put it into the u.n's minds to ban or attack all other religions, then the attack on j.w's, but witnesses seem to think the end is so, so close because russia has banned them.. it's sad, as some dubs i know have sold their homes and made other big decisions so they can pioneer in these 'very last of the last days'..

It's simply wishful thinking, every notable world event or change results in people speculating that the end is at hand, it happened many times throughout the thirty years I was in the religion. I think people are just sick of the endless requirements of JW life and want to believe it will soon end, even if that comes at the cost of billions of lives.
